  1. I agree, sounds like an inside job to me. Sorry Youngmoola I have to say that 89 looks like a zincon to me with those blisters and lines.
  2. I think this would look nicer on a white background.
  3. I do save the foreign stuff I find, but I do not send any coins out to be graded. I let others spend their money on that.
  4. Now that you have some answers, can we see the holder to see what the grade is on the coin now?
  5. If you are new to collecting, you may be better off to get a graded coin. The biggest reason is that way you are not taking a chance on authenticity.
  6. I was under the impression that NGC was the only one who graded coins other than US coins. I do not think finding paperwork would be an easy task.
  7. That is a nice die crack it looks like this one at Cuds On Coins. Cross reference: RCD-1c-2021-01. JCc-rcd-2021-01. 01/05/2022.
  8. Well on the bright side. I would look at it this way. It does not say Details or Cleaned Like most of the stuff out there.
  9. Very nice coin. A little wear on the high points on both sides. Some minor scratches. Two small hits on the revers rim I would think with some luck would put it at a AU58.But if it is in an old soap bar I might leave it alone.
  10. Powermad, has the best answer. Nothing special, this is common.
  11. I think we all have at least one. Some are just more damaged than others. This is not an error, it is a parking lot coin as we say.
  12. Not just Morgans, I think all the coins have gone to high, I go to the auctions all the time and people bid goofy on things. That drives the prices up, but the value is most of the time well below the hammer.
  13. I agree this is a damaged coin most likely from being caught in a dryer barrel When it flips on end it will roll it flat on the rim until it falls and then it will rub the sides of the coin until it is just right.
  14. This is interesting RobertDPG. I roll hunt all the time and like many others here I am more than happy to see a new member and lend a hand to try to save them some money, grief and aggravation on their numismatic adventure. It is important to know the how's and whys of coins before investing in them. Please take the professional advice of the members to help you out. In the end you will have learned a lot...
  15. Well, if you think to ask, please let us know.
  16. The date does look a lot like this one . 1942-D DDO-001 (varietyvista.com) Yes Kirt it does not look like the common one 1942 P I agree. I had to look twice. Maybe it is missing markers for proof ?
  17. Yes, I think the Denver mint has much better or a different type of equipment.
  18. Yes Neo, I am looking at gold rising and then I go to check prices on coins, and many are all dropping like crazy. So I wonder why it works this way? Is it to keep the coin market stable?
  19. I was afraid this would be the outcome, but at least as duly noted, at least it is a no fee Variety Plus. I am sorry to see NGC is not willing to fix this if it was an honest mistake. It sounds like it does not matter if it is a free attribution the price is the price.
  20. That statement says a lot. You just joined a month ago? Most members want to help you so they give you honest opinions, no sugar or honey just facts. How long have you been collecting coins. There are many collectors that do not have coins that are graded. This hobby requires many years of dedication and knowledge. It is not like building a model airplane and there is no instant gratification in this hobby unless you can buy anything you like or every coin makes you happy. In the end. It is what makes you and only you happy, not what makes the other guy happy.
  21. No Error the marks are scratches most likely from a coin rolling machine. The rest of the coin could have been subject to chemicals to make the surface look that way. It was not that way when it came off the press, so it is damage.
