You've held this coin in your hand. My only regret is its overpowering original luster and brilliance are muted by the encapsulation.
As did you my friend, .....well the pix in the thread ''originally'' do the coin better justice I agree
.an thanks in advance.

Here are the results a 2 part grading as it were, one part penny by me and one part nickel by @Quintus Arrius. Really nice coins worthy of grading.

alex, really?!.......the scratches.....My forehead is sweating!!

only coins with me in my car i have in the seats...:p

There is a difference between ''cleaned'' and well kept.....the toothpaste method works very well in the ''well kept'' standard........It's not that one is fooling anyone, it just puts the coin in a better light ,so to speak.imho.

yeah I have quite the collection......over 6k worth in less than a year......Maybe a 2k profit in time......I can wait.

not bad for a pawn shop, acquired a 1885 morgan in au 50, 2 barber half dollars a 1882 s, and an avg one...a key date mercury dime 1892...and a 1912 liberty nickle. All for 65 bucks.......red book puts them just under 200 bucks for all 5 coins in the lowest grade....which these are not.......My biggest problem...selling , between ebay and paypal and taxes......I'm better off bargaining in the black market, lol.

whats the best way to clean a coin
I use toothpaste and fingers...rub it in then any glass cleaner.....cleans off the loose debris but leaves the coins aged luster, for lack of a better term,I been using the method with ''wheaties''.

The "right" weight -- despite possible acid etching, serious alteration, and a harsh cleaning! What an I missing here? Maybe it's also had a hip replacement, too. It's almost as old as I am.
Tip from a rank amateur: Me. The older a coin gets, the more difficult diagnosing its symptoms becomes. Elsewhere on this site I made mention of all the one-cent pieces littering NYC streets paved with asphalt. I defy anyone to correctly diagnose an "assault by asphalt-embedded coins." And one more thing... there has to be a cut-off date for coins damaged by environmental forces or chemical agents. It may be interesting, but it's irrelevant. Many such coins are essentially worthless.
essentially to a numismatist.......but to a scrap dealer (and enough of coins) it's a gold mine.......I see a lot of morgans and even ase's as melt point pricing even thou the wear is evident, for some reason pennies get hit harder than other coins at least more often.

I find them quite often. They aren't always in the best condition, but I have quite a few. I just set them aside. Do you need any certain ones? I'll be glad to look and see if I have any you need and send them to you.
Whatever you can spare. I have none. Pretty frustrating I’ve been collecting since last June I haven’t found one. Let alone the 6 or so variety reverse’s

67 proof sets...dated 1968 thru 2009.....couple good years in there all proof sets...with at least 10 1986 sets and some special comemoritives so 41 sets plus26 ''other'' sets....under 500 bucks.....not the bargain of the century, but I still can turn a profit.
