boy you guys would have a field day with the proofs I picked up today 1 being a 1944 proof.....along with a 1957....both in very good shape .

20 bucks netted me a 1954 au dime ...an 1887 seated liberty ef20, and a 1957 proof 65 penny fresh as the day it was minted..........plus dozens of proof and unc pennies all worth under 5 bucks each......Nice score at the local pawn shop....Funny thing is I was hovering over the coin display and the counter help said ''I was out of luck he had just sold all his silver coins''.....''Yeah, ok''.....''lessee what you have'' I said.

My point is even stronger with later sets....A proof coin is a proof coin! why the mark down just because they are combined as a set?? makes little sense if any to me.......take a 2006 american eagle proof set, 1st reverse proof with a enhanced proof along with a burnished coin sold as a set is 185.00....the enhanced coin alone can fetch north of that figure alone.

I've noticed, somewhat perplexingly, why are proof coins worth more separately than when packaged together. Case in point according to ''red book''. The face value price of a 1986 proof set is .91 .  U.S. mint cost at time of mintage was 7.00$ The gross summary of the proof coins sold individually is close to 26.00 bucks,(assuming pf65) again according to red book, however sold as a package (with original government packaging) and it retails for 7.50$....Now there is a discrepancy with the red book declared value, set at 1.82.....also all the sets I have seen did not include a dollar valued coin. We are dealing with a .50 cent halve pf, a quarter dollar pf, A dime pf,a nickle pf, and a penny pf. To be clear.

no some morgans can be darker but not by rule of thumb.....I have an ngc graded 1881 ...that proves my point.

too the op the stars are usually a dead give away.....for some reason deceptive coins have a hard time replicating the stars

pretty sure I ran into a counterfeit morgan ....that being said I made sure I either kept it (as a instructional tool) or returned the offending piece.Now I  I only buy from reputable dealrs with red book in hand.......buh bye flea bay.

wish mine looked like that........I have 6 that are not even close to what is pictured here.

Not one wheatie do I have graded. That might change this year. 

scored a ton of librty nickles.....all g4 to g8...mebbee 1 or 2 at fine......mebbe 80 bucks worth.........would love to sell them at 2 bucks a piece

bottom line if they look as clean as the day they were supposedly minted.....they were'nt.

Basically pennies and dollar silver, all modern coins, by todays standards....as for books the ''red book'' and ''coins'' magazines I read typically to this day...also a coin almanac I picked up at my first coin show last year.
