  1. When looking at the rim, do you see layers of different colored metals? Or is it consistent silver color? Not sure if the rims are in good enough shape to tell.
  2. This one looks like it got a good look at the inside of a fire at some point. It’s damaged
  3. Sharann, I am your neighbor up the road in Alabama. RWB (Roger Burdette) is actually the author of both of those reference books he pointed you to. Just to let you know the quality of information you are getting. I think it’s amazing your son has these coins to remember his father by. Hopefully it will push him to enjoy numismatics.
  4. I would be all in as well. I’m looking for FB Mercs, preferably PCGS, in top grades for a registry set I’m building. I’m looking to get out of Morgan’s and Franklin Halves. Actually if anyone is looking to trade for Morgan’s or Franklin halves for anything interesting I’m potentially interested. I’ve kind of lost interest in those two sets I have.
  5. This is probably one of the ones sold on Amazon. If someone knows how to report a seller on Amazon this one needs handled. I looked for a way to report them and didn’t see it. This is exactly what’s causing so much grief in this hobby. https://www.amazon.com/BeiQian-Dollars-1804-1926-Collecting-Silver-goodService/dp/B07FN1KQQN/ref=asc_df_B07FN1KQQN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309822978421&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3358985671573199673&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012604&hvtargid=pla-623149074662&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=62020063176&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=309822978421&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3358985671573199673&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012604&hvtargid=pla-623149074662
  6. I wonder if this accounting included those for sale on Amazon for $2.99? But the shipping is what gets you at $3.99. And no pesky “copy” struck anywhere in the coin. 😂 https://www.amazon.com/BeiQian-Dollars-1804-1926-Collecting-Silver-goodService/dp/B07FN1KQQN/ref=asc_df_B07FN1KQQN/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309822978421&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3358985671573199673&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012604&hvtargid=pla-623149074662&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=62020063176&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=309822978421&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3358985671573199673&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012604&hvtargid=pla-623149074662
  7. Send it to CAC. If it gets a gold bean you may be right. Isn’t their reason for existing kind of what you are arguing for?
  8. They aren’t cheap, but look at American Security (Am Sec) BF series. I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and they have a 2 hour rating that is third party certified. Many of the stated fire ratings are in-house tests and not independently verified. And they are good looking safes to boot. There is a video somewhere of someone opening one in the mentioned California fire after having to let it cool for a week, the the contents were saved. The shelf was warped from the glue inside the particle board softening, and a little soot, but in great shape. Like coinbuf I am a fan of traditional mechanical locks. They never wear out and don’t carry the mentioned risks. *I think I read that they are moving to BFX to replace the BF series, but I don’t know the enhancements in the new series.
  9. Welcome to the forum! The first thing members will request to give any advise is a clear picture of the front and back of the full coin. What are you thinking is the error? From the small portions in the pictures it looks like a highly circulated/damaged coin. I suspect whatever you are seeing is damage. But I could very well be missing what you are questioning.
  10. That’s exactly what I was wondering coinbuf. There must be a thought that they can brand them DL Hansen and demand a premium. No other rationale that I see. And it sounds like for you and me both Coinbuf that the holders have the opposite effect.
  11. I know I’m tired of the DL Hansen holders. It’s getting harder to find nice specimens in certain coins right now without his name on them. I just don’t understand why he buys and upgrades as much as he does. Seems like a waste for him.
  12. As I understand it, he is a prominent businessman from Utah. He is making a run at assembling the finest collection of American coins to date. The Eliasberg collection updated to include the most recent if you will.
  13. I have been buying a few coins recently from DL Lawrence, and their auctions are consistently flooded with DL Hansen collection coins. This is confusing to me because it seems a waste of both time and resources to buy and upgrade in his situation. The average collector this makes sense. You buy what you can afford and upgrade over time. But how is it a good strategy for his situation? Reslabbing and resell fees erode resources, so why not buy top pop coins to start with where possibilities? And I am specifically reference coins such as Mercury dimes where better coins are often readily available than what he originally purchased. What am I missing? Why is this part of his strategy to buy and upgrade in the short term?
  14. Mr_Spud if you could kindly lend me your D for mine I would highly appreciate it! Hahaha. We can split the proceeds. MS67+FB
  15. I didn’t mean to be rough on you either. I have asked way simpler questions so I have no room to be rough on anyone. I just know the look of these because I dig them up often and it’s distinct. If you go to a park near a concession stand with a metal detector you will learn this look quickly haha. In fact there is a chance I put this one in a roll and took it to my bank and it found it’s way to you. I can’t see the date on the first one. Is it a 54 or 74? If it’s a 54 it’s still a good find because of the silver content. If it’s a 74 use it.
  16. That was a metal detector find. I dabble in that and find a bunch that look like this.
  17. Apologies I thought it was denomination not type. Got it now.
  18. I am on my phone, and can’t get it clear enough to see fine detail. Variety Vista lists 3 DDOs for this date and mint mark. Unless someone on a computer can see it better, perhaps compare it to the examples to see if you can identify the markers. Here is the link. http://www.varietyvista.com/09b WQ Vol 2/DDOs 1970-D.htm
  19. I don’t think it’s anything special, unless someone knows something I don’t. It’s not anywhere near Uncirculated, and not old enough to have much interest. Spend this one on a vending machine is my suggestion.
