My newest Beautiful Brits
Modwriter replied to Mr.Bill347's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
This is my favorite ugly in my collection. 1971 1/2 NEW PENNY GREAT BRITAIN COIN. Good Condition due to slight wear. Obverse: Second crowned portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II right, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, legend around. Lettering: ELIZABETH·II D·G·REG·F·D·1971 Translation: Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith (Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensatrix) Engraver: Arnold Machin Reverse: Central crown of St. Edward, denomination in letters above and numerals below. Lettering: NEW PENNY ½ Engraver: Christopher Ironside Edge Plain Comments From Decimalisation Day on 15th February 1971, the production of the ½ New Penny was necessary since the old sixpence (with a decimal face value of 2.5p) continued in use up until 1980 and merchants had the ability to charge in nearly as small units as they could previously with the old money. The Treasury continued to argue that the halfpenny was important in the fight against inflation until the coin became uneconomical to produce and consequently was demonetised and withdrawn from circulation in December 1984. Banks sent unused stocks back to the Royal Mint to be melted down, therefore less of the original mintage remains. (Desciption Courtesy of numista.com) -
2013-S Proof Mount Rushmore Quarter(PMD)
Modwriter replied to Hinkle's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
That is a beautiful Mt. Rushmore quarter. Where is the hit? I see a tiny spot on Jefferson's nose at that magnification. The one I have has a very similar spot. -
The other day I watched a YouTube video about coin polishing with a dremel tool. He tried to polish off a carbon spot on a copper round and completely ruined it in my opinion. I recently sold a Mexico peso coin to a jeweler who makes necklaces using old coins and he is highly skilled at whatever he does in cleaning coins for his jewelry.

AU details / Cleaned question
Modwriter replied to LDH Coins & Memorabilia's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Hello Mohawk, did your Details graded coins sell quickly on eBay? One of the LCS here has a lot of Genuine Details graded coins for sale and I'm wondering if they can be resold on eBay. TIA -
Wow. The 2020 Krause World Coin catalog is 2,400 pages and 5.45lbs. That is like half a case of copy paper. Im sure it is printed on telephone book lightweight paper.

I have sold coins on eBay from Australia, Mexico, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands in the last month. I found it interesting that one of the buyers is a jeweler in New York City.
-
Here is a link to the Numista page for the Australia 2 cent coins: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1558.html As a buyer and seller of world coins, I always find interesting comments and history when searching numista.com For instance: "Normal circulating 1 and 2 cent coins were removed from circulation in February 1992 and the coins were melted down to make bronze medals for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia." There are also some coin values listed.

Yes, expensive newbie mistake. I really thought it would grade higher.

I have sold my West Point quarters but still have this Salt River-S in my collection that I found in a mint roll last year.

Question for NCS-Carbon Spot on Clad Proof Half Dollar
Modwriter replied to Mohawk's topic in Ask NGC/NCS
My spot is bigger than yours! This is the reverse of my 2000-S $1 Sacagawea. I am quite fond of it and part of my keeper collection despite the carbon/toning spot. -
Hi @Morpheus1967, my eBay member name is heard58. Thanks for asking. ~Mike

I re-opened my eBay coin store earlier this month and have noticed the following. Raw modern nickels and dimes are not selling. Silver dimes, state and territories clad quarters, modern zinc and wheat cents, Kennedy halves, Sac and Presidential dollars are selling. Also, I am finding that digital photos of the coins show more scratches and dings on the coins that do not always appear after checking with a loupe. I have not listed many of my NP clad quarters yet, but the ones that are listed get a lot of views and sold a 2021 WCD quarter.

Does this Combination add Worth to this Penny
Modwriter replied to Kathey's topic in Newbie Coin Collecting Questions
Not too bad of shape for a 58 year old cent. -
I took my old cigar box of coins out of storage during the 2020 virus and started google searching for information on my coins. I have searched coin rolls, submitted coins for grading, bid at coin auctions, visited the local coin shops, and recently started selling on ebay again. My coin interest has also expanded from moderns to ancients and from high graded PF70 down to PO01lowball. Thank you all for your guidance, laughs and history lessons. Mike

Ancient Roman Empire Coins Pricing?
Modwriter replied to Modwriter's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
@MohawkThank you for the history of Empress Faustina and the links. I have also seen ancient coins in the Littleton catalog mailer. I learned their pricing is very high. JKK and MA have very reasonable pricing. -
Ancient Roman Empire Coins Pricing?
Modwriter replied to Modwriter's topic in US, World, and Ancient Coins
Thanks. It has been certified by NGC, but they do not have value/pricing for it. eBay pricing is all over the place for un-certified loose coins. -
I'm thinking about buying a Roman Empire Denarius ancient coin. I do not want to overpay for it. Is there a website where I can get pricing for Roman coins besides eBay? Thanks in advance.
-
Welcome jm, besides ebay you may want to check out the coin auction websites for buying coins. Heritage, David Lawrence, Great Collections.
