Greenstang got a reaction from GBrad in 73d penny questions
RJoe
What you are describing as extra letters and numbers simply can't happen during the striking o a coin. (With the rare exception of a dropped letter) .
The devices on a die are pemanently engraved in the striking die so these are the only letters, numbers that will show up on the coin.
What you have is just damage that is causing Pareidolia. (A term we use for seeing something that isn't there).

Greenstang got a reaction from Mohawk in My coin collection (Central Control)
As long as you know we’re everything is, it’s organized.
It’s when you can’t find things that you have to worry.

The proper term is Doubled Die.
No the 8 is not Doubled. It looks like it has been flattened slightly.

Greenstang got a reaction from GBrad in 1982 small date
Looks like a zincoin. You can see some plating bubbling around the mint mark and other areas.
Also the fields look too rough for a copper cent

Greenstang got a reaction from Hoghead515 in Clad layer
Yes, it is possible to have a clad layer missing on one side. Colour looks like it may be copper showing and not ED.
Can’t be 100% sure from a photo but certainly worth getting checked out.

I agree, you can also see MD in the 1, 9 & 8 on the date.

Greenstang got a reaction from kenlee47 in 2019 D LOWELL QUARTER
Welcome to the Forum
Your quarter is also PMD (Post Minting Damage)
It is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin. Anything that happens after that is considered damage

Greenstang got a reaction from James Zyskowski in Fake Krugerrand?
First, Welcome to the Forum
Here is a photo of a genuine silver Krugerrand. I don't see any word "Krugerrand " below the leg.
FYI- A Krugerrand is not a coin, it is bullion

Greenstang got a reaction from James Zyskowski in 1951 High Relief Canadian Nickel?
Depends on what year you are comparing it to. The Mint has changed the composition four time since then so they would have different lustres depending on the year it was minted

Greenstang got a reaction from James Zyskowski in 1973 d red penny full steps.should I grade
The full steps only pertain to Jefferson Nickels.
What you have is an album worthy cent that would cost way more to grade than it is worth.

Can't do much about the Lincoln's as that is the sellers opinion about the grade.

Greenstang got a reaction from Lem E in Are these people serious?
It is against eBay policy to have a numeric grade on a raw coin.
Been reported. Hopefully will be removed by end of day.

Greenstang got a reaction from Coinbuf in 2001 D Rhode Island Quarter
This forum is for buying/ selling coins. Have asked it to be moved to proper forum.
As far as your coin, it has been been severely damaged. There is no way that could happen during the striking of the coin.

Greenstang got a reaction from _Nathaniel in Dot above date
Round Die Chips are not uncommon. They start off as a pin hole in the die and through continuous striking, it slowly enlarges the hole into a round shape.
