I understand that under PCGS price guide under variety’s that there is no double die for this date and mint mark. I found a roll of them in a collection I bought and a lot of them look like this. Is this a normal look or is something off.

Hey TON, something I was told in my beginning that I did not want to hear was that the Big Graders start every coin out at MS70 before they even look at it. Once they get their look the first thing they do is look for the pin wheel and when looking fir that pinwheel any and every defect will stick out like a sore thumb. If it has a single scratch or bag mark or even a ding, it automatically goes down to 63. Idk how true that is but I heard similar statements so often that I had to accept it. I have some absolutely phenomenal coins, but not one without at least 1 blemish, even a teensy one. Breaks my heart that in nearly 3 years I still haven't sent one in for grading. With the price of the membership and the price per coin you better make sure you can get that back should you sell the coin later on. Otherwise what's the point? All these Lincoln Cents and Nickels and Dimes, anything you see in a slab with a lower grade and selling in some shop for a couple of bucks were likely sent in to be graded as part of a box of BU Mint Rolls that had never been touched and the owner got the deepest of discount because of the volumn of coins he was sending in at one time. See how that works? And with a Nickel, if it doesn't have Full Steps it's a spender unless there's some error or variety that will make it otherwise worthy, but that's with any coin, I suppose. I hope that helps.

  2. No, no, no, no, no! Do not private message. I want to read all of it and I'm sure good TON wants to too. Maybe. Dang it.

I too would love for all my coins to be perfect like m...nevermind...that's why I am only buying Proof sets now and I feel like my only collection has some pretty sweet Coins but I did have to lower my standards on it a bit because of how pricey they can get. I set out only wanting MS grades and wound up settling for mostly AU because of that darn SLQ-those things are ridonkulous but I do have a full head, but I also set a timeline for its completion. I suppose that's a main reason I error hunt, hoping to find that one coin, that one 1 and out or UFO as Wexler calls them-and I'm pretty sure I have one, that will fetch a good price and thus enable me to go full steam ahead for the beauties. You gotta start somewhere. There can be good money in an error if it is special. Sorry to rant. Sorry TON!

I've got to be honest with you guys. There really aren't lots of previously unfound varieties out there waiting to be found. There just aren't. It's primarily fiction! Does it happen a couple of times per year or so? Sure. But it's like trying to hit it big with lottery tickets! Even Wexler names a bunch of varieties that NO third party grader will certify. This doubling mania has gotten out of hand, guys.

Ima be a smarty pants now. Don't you get mad at me.

Yes there are! Yes there are! I have in my possession a 1999D DDR CT Quarter with 1 and maybe 3 extra branches that I'm about to send in. Just saying. But that's not why I came.

I came for the 1953 Nickel. How come the Proof Nickels for the year were struck at Philly even though San Fran was perfectly capable at the time but didn't strike Proof Nickels?

  4. Well, do remember it isn't an ad if it's in the wrong forum. But I'm sure you didn't expect a response. I have no clue as to any value. As I said, it looks like you found the bags I dropped for the kiddos during Coin Week, so idt they are super valuable. At least the years I dropped weren't. Lol! I sure wish I'd have heard from someone that found a bag o coins I dropped. Probably was a junkie instead of a kid. Oh well. Message me with your price. If I can I will, if not we'll dicker. Ta-ta. -Karen

After spending an entire WEEK at the ANA show at Rosemont (With not a single soul asking about a doubled coin all week!), here are my next ventures on my list:

August 24 - Lebanon Valley Coin Show, Lebanon, PA

September 7 - Red Rose Coin Club Show, Lancaster, PA

September 13-14 - Battlefield Coin Show, Gettysburg, PA

September 28-29 - Harrisburg Coin Show, Harrisburg, PA

October 17-19 - Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists show, Monroeville, PA (near Pittsburgh)

December 7 - Bloomsbury Coin Fair, London, England, United Kingdom

January 9-12 - Florida United Numismatists show, Orlando, FL

January 17-19 - New York International Numismatic Convention, New York, NY

February 27-29 - ANA National Money Show, Atlanta, GA

Pick one, get out from behind your keyboard, and see the real hobby.

Sounds like you'll be a busy boy for sure. Enjoy.

  6. What's it supposed to be? A 7 or an 8? 2? Ima say that you'll be told it is a grease job or PMD. I have no idea if either is the case, but I like it. And that's why I stopped by, just to tell you I like it.

And this. Let me say this too...sometimes a greasy die can create a look that people want thus making it valuable. For example there is some State Quarter that had too much grease around the T of trust causing it to say In God We Rust. Idk how much they go for but it made a headline in some magazines when one was found and there wound up being more than the one. So never just toss back into circulation something that you find cool because someone else might find it cool too and might want to buy it. I mean, how much space does a Dime really take up, right. Btw, I have an In God We Rust Nickel and I've only shown it to one person. I've never heard of another. I love Nickels and I'm bored and rambling. Good luck. -Karen

  7. Well I have my photos and then screenshots of the listing on Brian's Variety. Here they are. Of course I can take more photos as required. I actually made a posting in the Newbie Forum here as to whether or not to send it in and another after I got my 'letter' and Nickel back in the mail. That was the 1st I heard of getting it labeled and slabbed as a Discovery. But I contacted Anacs and they didn't seem to know. Thanks for responding.

What do you mean by "UFO?"

Wexler has a page on his site that lists like 7 or 8 coins that aren't considered varieties or errors but are obviously wrong with no explanation for the defect. Hold on and I will try to link it. Maybe they are one and outs, I really am not sure.i have tried to

I have tried to share individual pages from the site before and it shared the site as opposed to the particular page. So if that happens, on the left side toward th bottom of the list it says UFO Varieties. But here goes my attempt to share it...

  9. Hey y'all. I hope y'all can help. I have had this 1999 D CT Quarter probably since my first week collecting and being a 99 you'd think others like it would have been found by now, but apparently not. There is only 1 listing for the '99CT and it is for a 99P WDDO I believe. This one isn't a DD I don't think, because I think to be a DD there has to be like the same feature nearby. I don't really know how to say it but you should know what I mean. Also, while the 2 limbs on the Left could be something inconsequential like breaks or something, the one on the Right side is definitely a Limb (looks like a thorn for real), without doubt. So the only thing it could be would be a UFO, right?

Well, the site isn't going to allow me to upload my 2 that show where they are in relation to the base of the tree. I will try to add them in the comments.

  10. Hi. So I have the 2019 P Nickel WDDR-003 attributed to me by Brian Ribar and several people have said that I need to send it in and get it slabbed as a discovery Coin. I don't even know where to begin that process and amywy, why would the company doing the slabbing even believe that I am who I say I am and that the Nickel I send in is even the same nickel? See ? Why didn't Ribar give me this option to have this done? Wouldn't that have been the only way to be sure the Nickel was THE Nickel and I AM me? Even the letter I got is pretty generic compared to some my friend Lenny has from Wexler. So anyway, what do I need to do to get this Discovery thing? Thanks. Sorry for rambling and have a great night.
