  1. I am probably wrong but at one time, if you cracked an NGC holder didn't the label of something change color.
  2. Here's where I agree with you but.......... It is not the ordinary, run of the mill collector that is causing this premium but the coin dealers and CAC itself. However, CAC has been going for 12 (?) years now and doesn't look like it's going anywhere soon. Whether you like CAC or not, if you are a coin collector, you will have to learn to live with it. What @Cat Bath said makes a lot of sense.
  3. @Insider is constantly active on Coin Talk. And his posts are very numismatic educational and have helped a lot of YNs.
  4. That's certain more than just true. Seems there is no end to what they thrown money at.
  5. I am, at a loss for words. I wonder how much those two made off that show and it just kept on going and going.
  6. In the past year, at least, there have been some of these so called 'newbies' who make Oak Island look like a rerun of Macbeth.
  7. There have been come comments, by reputable people here and ATS, that sometimes up to four people look at your coin.
  8. You are not alone. Maybe I am old and old fashioned but for years I've been peeved at how the grading system has evolved. Take for example the terms 'Proof Like', 'Deep Proof Like' and then 'Deep Mirror Proof Like'. I feel if it isn't a Proof it isn't. I believe that such terms are nothing more than 'Gradeflation' designed by dealers to line the pockets of dealers. Just because the first few coins on a new run are pretty lets call them 'Proof Like' and get more money for them. The common collector won't know the difference. It's a Mint State coin that looks good, has a certain eye appeal, that's all. Sorry for the rant.
  9. There are plenty of excellent coin forums on the Web. A forum is only what you make of it.
  10. Also, you get a better response posting this in the Newbie Questions forum. This is for buying and selling.
  11. There's quite a few Redfield Hoard coins for sale on eBay. What the OP has is a non-Redfield.
  12. This one has more names than the entire New York Yankees. MF told you folks:'Being played".
  13. A rare find. Send it to NGC for authentication and encapsulation.
  14. I was just looking over some Jeffersons and tthe proofs were high priced. The very nice ones.
  15. I've read a 'few' comments from ATS where some challenged the awarding of the CAC sticker to coins that appeared not to warrant it. There's some folks ATS that really get hyped up when they don't get the coveted 'bean'. CAC has been here since 2007 and, whether I like it or not, doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
  16. Absolutely and I recollect the folks ATS have had several counterfeit holders with real (but not the original) coins in them. The people who do this counterfeit ae getting better by the day. I remember when it was only coins and now it's the holders too. I believe, but I'm not sure, one of those PCGS counterfeits was the holder, label, substitute coin, CAC sticker. I may be wrongs, my memory is not what it used to be but I 'think' even a decade ago if you cracked an NGC holder something turned a different color. Maybe someone from NGC could tell me whether I'm wrong about that.
  17. I forgot; it wasn't intentional. I've just got caught up in this excitement. I do think reading about sunken treasure or buried treasure always exciting. Hey, doesn't he have plenty of money? But everybody loves gold. There's just something about it.
  18. I think JustBob and Coinbuf are correct. I call to mid the difference you see when you compare Trueview with a eBay or seller's picture. It's almost like looking at two different coins in the same holder. Is that an NGC Edge View Holder?
  19. I take it this means other salvage outfits besides Mister Bayerle were after the wreck?
