  1. My old eyes are going to say AU Details, Scratched. This is purely a guess.
  2. I agree with Just Bob and a very sweet coin, congratulations.
  3. Being a collector of Large cents I would not attempt to correct anything on this coin. Accept it as it is. Large cents in general are a very unique series of coins to collect especially if they are Attributed by variety even in detail grades . If this were in my collection I would submit it to NGC and let them tell you for sure and accept the grade they give it but I would not try to spruce it up. My opinion is it is far to nice to mess up especially if I am correct in saying I think ( based on the picture ) it is an NC 6. I am not what you would call an expert but I truly love all the large cent varieties. Congratulations on the nice find regardless of the variety.
  4. I would tend to agree with you and go a step further by saying I think you are correct with it being the very rare NC 6. Very nice coin either way.
  5. I would make a suggestion and it is only that. Since you like the coin and want to enhance the appearance. I have used Tarnex Jewelry dip with some success. The effect is rapid and sometimes difficult to detect the cleaning.. If you want to get it graded it will more than likely come back " cleaned". Attempting this dip would only be to benefit your preference for eye appeal. It still will appear cleaned but shiny. This appears to be a nice detailed coin and I am not sure I would try it with this particular coin. My opinion is that even when a coin goes to NGC Conserve collectors know that the coin has in fact been cleaned professionally. Please don't take this suggestion as a way to do the unthinkable which is cleaning a beautiful coin.
  6. Just plain beautiful and takes my breath away. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Very nice coin, splendid example. Congratulations.
  8. All my registry sets are 100 0/0 owned and all are NGC graded. I own a lot of certified coins and have never sold a coin in my 60 years plus collecting. Long before TPG's existence. My personal choice is, has and always be NGC and I say that because I have been collecting NGC certified since they first started. I think there will always be ways to cheat and manipulate the systems in place but I have always found true collectors to be truthful and honest people. I enjoy the banter and information from this forum but I tend to read and observe than take part. NGC has, by far, the best customer service people, the wonderful people at the registry section are always friendly and helpful. All that being said I would like to thank all the wonderful people that make this forum interesting and vibrant. I would also like recognize and congratulate all the registry winners this year, sincerely. As we all know it take tremendous effort and dedication to the hobby to put sets of any kind together. Celebrate your efforts and dedication to the entire coin world. Congratulations to one and all, you all deserve it.
  9. I would like to inquire about an issue that could also create a cheater winning. Since you can acquire a certification number (just say from an ebay sale post) and go to verify the coin and hit I own this coin and add it to your set and remove it after you win. There is no verification of winning sets being what you have entered as owned. Just saying a cheater is a cheater and will always find a way to beat the system. Rules only keep honest people honest, crooks and cheaters don't care.
  10. I am guessing it will not be today as daylight is coming to a close soon.
  11. Another of my favorites as this one started it all for me.
  12. I guess sometime later today is a guess because nobody knows what is going on. I am sure they already know the winners but are waiting for everyone to get back from lunch.
  13. For me this coin is historical and an artistically beautiful representation of an American first. One of my favorites.
  14. I am surprised not one response to address this question. I cannot find a definitive written answer either. Hope someone knows for sure.
  15. True love of coins and minting is what causes that, you are truly a coin-aholic and that is a wonderful thing.
  16. I think what you are talking about is called, Deep Mirror Proof, but I could be wrong.
  17. Just curious about which TPG company will be grading this shower ? Will it be NGC or PCGS or perhaps ANACS ? Perhaps it will get a green bean as well
  18. I was, and Marines are forever Marines. I thank you for your kind words.
