@Marilyn GoldenQuite a bit of history.
The Wells Fargo Nevada Gold hoard is an amazing collection of 1908 No Motto $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold coins. The hoard was purchased for more than $10 million and was the largest price paid for a collection of coins at the time by a very wide margin. In outstanding condition, over 95% are graded Mint State 65 or better.
A collector with foresight and the necessary means acquired this collection of $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold coins in 1917 and promptly hid them for safekeeping. There they remained undisturbed for more than 50 years. Hidden away from the public, these stunning coins survived several significant events that meant the end of many other Saint-Gaudens coins, including Gold confiscation via executive order in 1933.
In the early 1970s, the coins were taken out, sorted, inventoried, and resealed. They did not see the light of day again until their inspection and sale in 1996. Although the buyer is known, the seller is not: the buyer signed a strict confidentiality agreement guarding the privacy of the previous owners. Not until they met again was the true number known: over 15,000 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold coins. The meeting took place at a Wells Fargo bank in an undisclosed city in Nevada. The coins were held in a large walk-in vault, which formerly served as a Federal Reserve Bank where Silver dollars were stored in the 1960s and 1970s.

fairly accurate assessment....there's also the group that dont like cac because their coins didnt get cac'ed, of course they dont like tpgs because their coins didnt get the grades they wanted....as for ur number 2 group, same dilemma of 35 years ago...lots of super collections sitting raw in dansco n whitman albums, what to do cert or not to cert....things evolve, u either go with the evolution or get left behind....personal decisions...

zadok got a reaction from Alex in PA. in How reliable is sending your coin to get graded? Is it safe?
obviously not a well informed reply to discussing how registered mail works n why its the most reliable means to ship coins.....registered mail is tracked n documented both internally by the usps n can be monitored externally by the sender at every transfer point on its route to destination....neither the post office box nor the zip code r negatives in shipping security... their r very few instances of thefts of registered mail, the thefts of money items thru the mail r usually currency in non insured non registered birthday cards or xmas cards since security on those types of shipping is less stringent n if u open enuf cards u prob will find some cash....internal security at usps is very tight with ccts, overhead monitoring, supervisory positions etc....obviously there r always some degree of theft n loss in all shipping systems, but these horror stories of loss of coins to n from tpgs is overblown...

because they were legally sold n not subject to confiscation.....the stamps were resold n again resold very soon after the initial purchase....there was never any official federal orders to actually confiscate them after leaving gov't control, the orders were to destroy all that were still in possession of the gov't...

well time will tell.....it is the only plate block of 4 so it has a higher premium than the other known blocks of 4.....plus there is an over abundance of cash sitting on the sidelines just looking for a place to go...

first weigh it...33.4 grams, measure it...34.0 mm.....lighting in ur photos prob dont show its real color so cant go by that, has legit die characteristics...mint mark etc....if u r going to sell consign to reputable auction firm let them grade, if going sell privately needs be graded...prob come back authentic with details, appears to have been cleaned and/or lightly polished, not uncommon....
