Thanks, Dean, its one of my favorite coins.
Love the IHC you've shown - the toning is great !
1901... ok ... I have a few others...
This one is under serious consideration.
-
Thought I'd change up the date...
-
Sweet coins, Mark. Thanks for posting them !

Really nice 1804 Spiked Chin Half Cent...have not seen one
for a very long time. Thanks for sharing it.
Thought I had an 1898-P Quarter in AU 58 in my
circulated collection - but - for whatever reason,
I couldn't locate it at the Bank's SDB's. Somewhat
irritating when you misplace something like that.
Then last night - I found another 1898-P - and I just
couldn't pass this up...
EDIT: Saturday - 12/12/09 - 12:10 AM:
Now - don't laugh at me - I feel foolish enough - but it seems I sold this exact same coin when I upgraded the date with a MS 66 [ intended for the 1898 Mint Set ]...when I saw the opening in the series collection, I was puzzled why I didn't have the AU 58 registered in my set. ... its because I sold it...
I realized this when I went to register the coin accross the street - and it said the coin was already in my set !!! OMG !!! I am getting forgetful. I remembered the coin somewhat - I knew it was a well toned coin - it was purchased raw from JJ Teaparty - I sent it into ANACS back in 1999 and it came back as a MS 61 - in 2005 or so, I sent it into PCGS and it came back as an AU 58 .
Another mystery solved...Elbesaar had better start writing everything down !!
I found a D/d MM for the 1916 Quarter - and I thought it was a really nicely toned coin and as it turns out - its the highest [ as of this moment ] graded Large D /
over Small D at PCGS. [ MS 64 ]

New find this evening -

Great pictures with that zoom lens.
I think I need to take a course at the
local Ritz Camera shop on using my
Sony pocket camera - it takes a decent
picture - but - I wish I had bought one
to use on a camera stand...

Stumbled accross this Half in PCGS 64
I've been searching for an upgrade to my AU 55
and really wanted an AU 58 [ they are nonexistant ! ]
So...welcome to Elbesaar's collection ...

You're a good son, Winston.
That's a great Christmas present.

Chris - Things are going okay down here.
I have not seen your posts lately. Still in Fort Myers ?
Have not heard about any local shows there this year.
Am looking forward to FUN in January.
Anyone else going ? If so, I'm meeting
a group of other Barber collectors at
Denny's - 9880 International Dr - Thursday - Jan 7th @ 8:30.
Send me a PM if you'd like to attend - so I can make a
reservation for the correct number .

oh... just picked this up at Heritage...
I'm a sucker for rim toning....
-
HiHoAudio - that's a very nice rememberance of your Dad.
It probably was "conserved" at one time - but if ANACS
blessed it - NGC would also give it a 55 as well. Its a
little too white not to think it wasn't dipped earlier.
I have a few coins from my Grandfather and Dad
and they'll be the last ones I'd ever sell.
-
Thanks, Dean. That's a great IHC too !!
This belongs to a friend of mine -
he asked me my opinion of it.
Thought it very nice for the grade:
PCGS MS 64.
Here's another 1894 from my set
-
I just added this 1891 Barber Nickel to my collection...

This one is a key date....just bought it. What do the "experts" on this board figure it is worth?
A couple of years ago certified NGC AG3's were selling for $50- 60
and G4's were going for $80.
Your coin still has alot of "Liberty" on the headband - and some
"dyed in the wool LIBERTY graders" would call this coin a VG 8.
I'd venture a guess of $225 if it makes it into a VG 8 holder.
The reverse lower rim wear tells me the coin could squeek into a G4
holder ... but my grading is still a bit conservative.

Bob,
That's my idea of an SVDB...mighty nice coin there !!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boiler and Coindude - Thx for the compliments - its
a great little coin - and I had to own it once I saw it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dean - That's a great looking IHC - and thanks as well
for the kind words.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The date: 1909 --- Good !!

This is perhaps the best example of a coin "better" than expected. The images on ebay were "muddy" and made me cautious with my bidding. I received the coin today and was very pleased with this PCGS ms64. The photo falls short of exhibiting the true luster.
Nice 1904 V Nickel- nice RPD as well.
-
Great looking early Commem's - everyone !!
