  1. I am looking for two specific coins but do not know if I will be able to find them or not as I did not find one I liked in 2021. Other than than I do not have any specific plans or goals, I guess I'll see where the numismatic winds take me.
  2. Not all NGC coins have a photo, NGC did not take pictures of every coin until recently. So the coins in the older non prong holders seldom have any reference photos. @Stackerdude21 We need photos of the slab and specifically where you have concerns about any tampering. We have seen questions before about this and the usual issue is that on some slabs where the two slab halves are sonically sealed you may see a discoloration or area that looks melted. This is normal and is more prevalent on some slabs than others.
  3. Agreed, just a stain or environmental damage not an error of any kind. While you may see stuff like this posted on places like etsy as rare and valuable those sellers are attempting to rip people off.
  4. The rise in silver prices have made this a winner, but I would caution buying in holders like this and I would not rely on the grade given. This is one of many self slabbers and coins in holders from companies like this should be considered as raw coins.
  5. Maybe one of QA'a roosters got after it! Sorry could not resist.
  6. Not sure what you are asking, if you are asking if the coin would grade as G04 or better the answer is no. Your coin should not grade better than AG03. If your asking if the members that view the photos of your coin find it to be a good coin that they like then that is very different and completely subjective. In my case I do not find it to be a coin I would buy for my collection.
  7. If this were a wrong planchet the design would extend over the rim (if a dime planchet) or not take up all the space on the planchet (if a planchet larger than a cent). As the design is perfectly centered and aligned there is no way this is a wrong planchet error. As @Just Bob said the coin is discolored from environmental exposure; an accurate weight will confirm this.
  8. Welcome to the forum. The look of the coin suggests a cast copy to me, but I am no expert on these fugio coins.
  9. Too bad there is no way to read the date, those low ball collectors would go nuts for it then.
  10. If you can post a photo of the label or tell us what coin at least you might get some better answers. As you can see this is a hot button issue for Roger so his replies are driven by his dislike of the subject as opposed to any educational value. However he is not wrong, the term specimen has no real definition in the numismatic world and leads to confusion.
  11. PCGS made a few different versions of the premier label, these were done special for companies like HSN. They are nothing really special just a marketing gimmick.
  12. I actually had a few minutes today and played with a higher F-stop, not very happy with the few shots I took though. Which leads me back to the concerns that my lighting may need some changes or adjustments. Hoping to have more time later this week to play with it more.
  13. Welcome to the forum, yes there are collectors (like myself) who value and search for these old holder/flips. I cannot say for sure that these are worth more but after you factor in the costs to ship and grade them it is my opinion that you will do better selling them as is. I would love to buy at least a few and will send you a PM to further discuss. You are correct that Ebay is not an option for what you have in its current format. The very best place for this type of material is on the buy/sell sections of forums like right here in the section titled marketplace. The one concern that members may have is that you are new here and have no history, that may make some buyers at least somewhat hesitant to buy. Buying and selling on forums is largely a trust issue and there have been at times a few bad apples that have tried to take advantage of forum members. And of course you may have the same reservations as you likely do not know any members here. You may want to contact Ian at Great Collections and see if he is willing to place your items on his auction site. He has a great reputation in the industry and his auction business is one of the best. Here is a link to his site. GC
  14. Very nice I have that same three tray case and it is a very nice display case.
  15. Thanks, that helps. There are three important enough DDO's for this date/mm to receive an FS number, and several other very minor DDO's. However when viewing your photos and the one available via the PCGS website I still only see MD, or strike doubling whichever term you prefer. Also as you were the one that submitted this coin did you select variety attribution when you submitted the coin? If you don't ask and pay for the variety attribution you will not get it. If you did ask for and pay the extra fee then PCGS determined that you have simple MD and no variety, which is what I see also.
  16. @Mohawk is correct we need to see full coin obv and rev photos, at the very least we need to know what year this coin is . From just these photos it appears to be simple strike doubling not any type of DDO. However the additional information and photos are needed to confirm.
  17. Totally agree, your quarter looks to have spent some time underground.
  18. Without any photos of your coin there is nothing that we can tell you except that you should not attempt to clean or "improve" the coin. If you want feedback on your specific coin post some photos, as you say your found it in your change the chances are very high that the coin is only worth face value. Some general info: The mint coined 800,953,300 1958-D cents, these are not rare unless in exceptional condition (coins found in change are not in exceptional condition) and there are two recognized doubled dies for 1958-D cents. Here is a link to a site that lists the two recognized doubled dies, and while not likely, you can see if your coin is a match for either. Variety Vista 1958-D cent
  19. F12 per QA?? So true, there are so many raw collections still out there yet to be discovered and reviled.
  20. Sorry William been busy getting ready for the holiday and did not have a chance to get back. I cannot say for sure what settings I used for my shot, I actually took that shot several months ago. But on average I have been setting the f# at 5.6 or 8, I have tried some other settings but have found that with the lens/camera I have this seems to be the best. But I need to experiment more and perhaps a higher f setting with more light might yield some better results.
