  1. Now that is awesome Don!!! It's a great coin and it's her father.....Antoninus Pius certainly should make an appearance on his daughter's birthday!!! Thank you so much for sharing that piece, it's a beaut!! ~Tom
  2. Much to my dismay, all of our laundry quarters are 2021-P WCD quarters once more. The last two weeks, two solid rolls of these things!!! We went out to lunch with my dad today and he always checks his change to see if there's anything interesting for me and every single quarter he had was a 2021-P WCD!!! Since I do no roll hunting aside from our laundry quarters, this has been a real bummer. These things are a plague where I live.
  3. And you make some very good points here, Roger. The photos are less than ideal. I wish you had gone forward with your guide....I think it would have been great and a big improvement on Photograde as it stands. In thinking about it, Photograde could be pretty dangerous in the hands of someone with less hobby experience, actually, due to its faults. I've never really thought about it before, but you and Kurt have made some great points here.
  4. What you have there is a damaged 1982-D Washington Quarter. It is environmentally damaged, which is why it's the color it is and something gouged it as well, which is why the E looks strange. That coin's a spender.
  5. Trashed, thrashed, smashed...all of that. That cent has had a very bad life.
  6. Yeah.....it definitely won't be quick. I'm into selling coins for the long haul, actually. I've been doing it in some capacity since 2008, so it's not a quick buck kind of thing, and I'm trying to grow right now. That's where the wait time is a drag....I can only grow as fast as NGC moves, and I'm definitely anxious to keep growing. Since I want to see how far I can get with it, I'll definitely be sending them in at some point. In a way, this does work out pretty well......like I said, there's something I waiting to hear from them on before I send the Canadian coins out, so I guess I'll prioritize my U.S. selling lots for now. The Canadians will keep . Your entry actually helped me make an important decision regarding what to send off next, and I thank you greatly for that, my friend
  7. Well, it's definitely in circulated condition and the 1959-D is a common date in the Washington series. I'd say your coin is worth silver value, which is $4.08 today. If you found it in circulation, it's a great find!
  8. 93 DAYS!!! HOLY HELL!!! Well, there goes my idea of making a quick and productive entry into grading and selling Canadian Proof Like coins. And I'm also waiting for NGC to answer a question on those coins, which I asked on September 12. It'll probably be another 93 days for that!!! I actually have a pretty good sized lot of these waiting to go to NGC, but I haven't taken the plunge yet and this backlog is exactly why. I guess we just have to stay tuned and hope for improvement to happen one of these days.......
  9. That makes a lot of sense, Kurt. I can see your issues with Photograde, and they're fair issues. For my purposes, it works well because I do so little with U.S. coins from before 1965. I don't collect them and I don't sell them. Basically, I just answer questions about them here, sometimes offer grading opinions of them here and I go shopping for nice Morgans and Peace Dollars on gift giving occasions with my fiancée. I guess for me, Photograde is good enough for my purposes. But I do value other perspectives and I thank you for sharing yours
  10. Coinbuf has this one right on.....that dime is just heavily damaged.
  11. Hello all, Today is Faustina the Younger's 1,891st birthday!!! In honor of my numismatic muse, I'd love to see everyone post an ancient if they have them. Here's one of my favorite Faustina denarii, RIC# 507, to start us off:
  12. Hi Kurt! I'm genuinely interested in your stance......why do you dislike Photograde? I'd like to know, and Mike seems interested, too. ~Tom
  13. I'm with Coinbuf. This is a case of pareidolia.......the same thing that makes humans see shapes in clouds.
  14. Definite environmental damage....that's a quarter that's had a tough life and likely spent some time underground.
  15. Hello, I have a question for NCS. I recently came across a 1971-S Proof Kennedy Half Dollar of the DDO FS-101 variety. It's a nice coin aside from one issue.....there's a pretty pronounced carbon spot in Kennedy's hair right below the E in Liberty on the obverse. I was wondering if NCS is able to do anything about removing carbon spots or at least minimizing their appearance. I thank you for your kind time and attention. Both are very much appreciated! ~Tom
  16. Agreed. You paid 150 times what that coin is worth. I would never do business with whoever sold you that again.
  17. PCGS Photograde is definitely handy, no doubt about it. I'm kind of a relic because I also keep the book around, too. Though I no longer collect any U.S. coins myself, it comes in handy with answering questions around here and my little selling venture as well. It's a handy little guide, to be sure!
  18. Update-the 1904-S 50 Centavos and the 1966 SMS Nickel have sold and the links have been removed. Thanks So Much!!
  19. I see some die chips but no evidence of a doubled die whatsoever.
  20. Yep.....that's a stained and damaged regular old Roosevelt right there.
  21. Definitely environmental damage. That one's a spender.
  22. Agreed 100% on this point for sure, Coinbuf.....which arguably is the single most valid and only important point for pretty much any alleged "1964 SMS" coin that pops up here.
  23. That is true. Photograde (at least the edition I have, which is the 19th Edition) only goes down to AG-3 on Flying Eagles, and it looked like a pretty good match for Mike's coin. But it could be FR-2.
  24. Oh boy....I didn't catch that part of it, that it was the same guy. I guess I should look better before getting into an explanation in the future.
