  1. I personally agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly!! My previous comment only pertained to the aesthetics of the coins involved and my general lack of collecting interest in U.S. coins. What I actually do collect likely shows that I'm all for numismatic items with tough, strong women on them.
  2. Agreed....great show report, as usual!! And it's just nice that there are shows for you to report on this year, Penny Lady!! As for Outback, I've never eaten there but being that I am a vegetarian with a somewhat unsophisticated palate, I typically just go for the place that looks like I could get the best cheese pizza at in the area when things like this come up. A steakhouse of any type wouldn't solve many meal problems for my fiancée and I unless we just wanted to eat a bunch of French fries but a good pizzeria can always solve them
  3. That's so true......pictures would be interesting given the nature of inquiry, but I'm not holding my breath. A lot of this kind of thing turns up here, as you said, and none have ever lived up to their billing.
  4. I don't collect U.S. coins and I likely won't add these quarters to the inventory of what I sell. The only difference they'll make in my life is being yet another different quarter design that I pump into washers and dryers at the Laundromat. I don't care what they look like as long as they work to get my clothes clean
  5. My workspace is HORRIBLE. It's right up there with James' but probably a little worse even.....I lost a dupondius in it a couple weeks ago!!! Thankfully, she did emerge from the wreck eventually....but it's bad when your coins disappear into your workspace!!!
  6. Thanks....you're right. I misspoke and I apologize.
  7. Hi Mike! Sadly, it doesn't look like a DDO to me. It is very slightly off-center but I think it's too slight to add any kind of premium to it.
  8. I've only been in a church one single time in my life, and that was to see a silent movie with actual live accompaniment with an organ. The film was the 1925 Phantom of the Opera. It was close to Halloween and it was a very cool experience. No one was wearing any crazy hats, which is the most I can speak to the subject of hats in churches.
  9. No cataracts for me! I just had my eyes examined in August and they were proclaimed "very healthy", though I'm horribly nearsighted. But my dad has had cataracts and cataract surgery, so they may be in my future, too.
  10. I'm with Coinbuf......definite spenders.
  11. Tarnish or a chemical stain. I'd say it's really not worth anything over face value. If it were mine, I'd actually spend it in the hopes that a kid would find it and think it was cool.
  12. If even the cosmos is subject to scratches, we shouldn't be surprised that our coins suffer them at times. That's a really cool thing you shared, Roger. Thank you for that!
  13. Seriously!! I can't think of anyone else who may be able to attribute this one.....as I told Andrew, he's got this ancient guy stumped with this one!
  14. I saw 1977-D and I broke into a cold sweat.....I thought the non-existent "Pac-Man" cent popped up again!!! I'm relieved that this is not that!!! Anyway, in looking at the photos, I just see a regular 1977-D Lincoln Cent with some machine doubling on the mint mark. Machine doubling does not add value to a coin. That one's a spender.
  15. Yep....definitely just a plated cent from a high school or junior college science class experiment. It's actually considered damaged. Sending it to NGC would be a waste of money.
  16. It's here on eBay, but we can make the sale through here if you have a PayPal account. Just PM me and we can work out the details: https://www.ebay.com/itm/115028694583
  17. Very good point, Coinbuf. Now if only I could make NGC understand that ancient copper shouldn't be bodybagged for being lacquered, I'd feel like I won one with them regarding copper. The lacquer on an ancient could be hundreds of years old and is a part of its story......but I digress. Sorry about the mini-rant.
  18. I'd say that's a good decision. 200% for toning is a little excessive, in my opinion.
  19. Indeed there are....the ignore function came in very handy for me with "The Collector", Travis Hale and our old, dear friend Slicky.
  20. Actually, I did, now that you mention it. But I haven't thought of it in years!! I'm having one of those stupid days The phyrgian cap would be more correct in the American symbolism sense, you're absolutely correct.
  21. Thanks for the pics, Jblindy!! Now, I can confidently say that the premium is definitely for the toning. You basically have to decide now if that toning is worth the price to you. Like Kurt said, some people would love this but others, such as Kurt himself, would not. This is an area that's very much driven by personal taste.
  22. Going by the exchanges you and Roger have on here, I have to say I am completely unsurprised that you have that gene in your genetic recipe. Roger seems to have it as well. That's at least one thing you guys can agree on.....you won't back down from a fight
  23. Hi Jblindy! The NGC Price Guide is accurate for some things, but it's not very helpful for others. It could be the toning that's making the seller ask for a premium and it likely is. It's also possible that the seller is just overpriced. Without seeing the coin, it's hard to say, but on some things, the NGC Price Guide can be of limited usefulness.
  24. You guys remind me of my sister's cat and this stray cat that showed up on her porch one day......those two took one look at each other and were ready to full on brawl! If there wasn't a window between them, there would have been blood and fur EVERYWHERE! And congrats on those crowns, BTW.....especially that PL67!!!
  25. Yeah.....given American society of the day, the Pileus was a very questionable choice, to say the least.
