  1. Throat Cancer.....He was 65. Please post a coin from 1955 or feel free to offer a tribute. All my heroes are dying.
  2. Beautiful tribute to your Mom. I like it a lot.
  3. I was speaking, mainly, of sets that have been sold outright, yet never removed. I know several of these. But, to intentionally deceive by stealing cert. numbers is even WORSE. Makes you wonder: 'what kind of satisfaction could one get from that??' Trust me, though, I DO believe you and and I know that has also happened, which is why I think that it's good that NGC/PCGS have cert. #s hidden, on the Registries. I remember, in the early days, they weren't obscured. Makes you think TWICE before posting a slab shot.
  4. I don't think it's ethical BUT, with that being said, I KNOW for a fact that there are plenty of 'PHANTOM SETS' out there. I wouldn't do it but some people DO.
  5. Interesting post...Had no idea that there were this many variations! Besides, 'Good for a Scent' and 'No feeling can Exceed the Smoking of the Weed', the 'End of Pain' has always been among my favorite tokens!!
  6. I love Seated coinage, although, I'm more of a Half dollar and Dollar kind of guy. But, I do like the 'no stars' obverse Dime variety. I may have to get that, someday, as a nice type example.
  7. I love it! It is superb and really suits you fine!
  8. NEVER forget 9/11. Nineteen years ago, yesterday night, millions of Americans went to bed not knowing that the next morning would change their world forever. Hundreds packed flight bags that would never be opened. Thousands slept in beds next to loved ones for the last time. Nobody knows the future or what the next day will hold. Live each day to the fullest and, if there are people in your life that you love.....TELL THEM tonight, on the anniversary of this terrible event, as we remember the innocent victims and the heroes who lost their lives.
  9. No offense intended. You're not alone.....It happens A LOT. I thought maybe, someday, I'd complete BOTH with different coins but, yeah, that's a little fanatical, even for me. I will assemble the PCGS 1933-1947 40 coin set, though, as I only need two more PCGS coins for that one.
  10. I participate in BOTH the PCGS and NGC registries.....But NGC is the only one that I will ever complete or take seriously. I have a lot of nice NGC coins and I am not one to crack or cross. There's NO WAY that I'm buying PCGS duplicates of rare coins! That would be stupid and insane....... I only buy US coins but do appreciate the Dark Side.
  11. I like the NGC registry the best, as it allows me to complete my set, because I buy the coin and not the plastic. I joined the PCGS registry just for the heck of it, although I know I will never complete it. I used to be a member of the ANA but I am not currently. I will probably re-join sometime down the road. I used to be active in a club but I did it more to socialize than to buy and sell. I am primarily a collector but I do a lot of vest-pocket dealing at shows and what not.
  12. Stars are scarcer (I own 4 times as many pluses as stars) and more eye appealing. So, if base grades are the same, as an example: I would choose a MS 65 * over an MS 65+ anytime.
  13. I only notice signature lines and Registry links, when on my PC. I cannot see them on my tablet or phone.
  14. Agree. The higher end guys will always seem to gravitate towards it.
  15. I use the registry more as a management and tracking tool and, also, as a way to gauge my own success. I know that I'll never be number one, but it is FUN to see how well you can do, and how you 'stack up' to the big boys. I compete with myself more than anything....Setting goals, etc. It is, also, nice to be able to display a FULL SET, with images, regardless of how you rank, numerically.
  16. For my series, it would be the 1921-S......In 63, it is worth 8472. A 62 would suit me fine at 7487. My highest point coin, so far, is my 1921 P in 65, which is worth 7340.
  17. Yes, Robec (Bob Campbell) and Justin Lee are my two favorite coin photographers.
  18. Interesting story. Persistence pays.......In anything.
  19. I would have said 61 for the OP's coin. It has a nice strike and really nice luster but it's pretty heavily bag marked.
  20. My very first certified acquisition was a 1916 D WLH MS 62 NGC, in an old number 7 slab, that I picked up in 1996. The strike was a bit soft but the originality was off the charts. I sold it to a dear Walker friend 15 years later and purchased a PCGS MS 64. Since I no longer own the 62, I will not post an image of it. Rather, I will post my first-ever Heritage purchase from early 2005. It is a 1918 NGC 64 from the Richard J Chouinard collection. I thought that I had overpaid, at the time, but now the price has caught up. This coin looks 65 to me.
  21. Graded gem in a PCGS Rattler with a CAC sticker. Congrats on your milestone. I am just 21 posts away from it, myself.
  22. His 1929-S Walker MS 66 is phenomenally gorgeous and his 1940-S Walker MS 67+ is likely the finest known example. His 1938-D Walker MS 67+ is not bad, either.
  23. Thanks. That's exactly what I'm talking about. I will not begrudge someone trying to own the finest known. Also, I can assuredly appreciate the beauty and conditional scarcity but the difference in quality vs. price just does not make sense to me. My set was constructed at my optimal grade level and I am perfectly happy with it. However, I have nothing but respect and admiration for the new number one set. Everyone has their own collecting strategy and goals. Although my coins are lower grade, they were hand-selected and cherry-picked by me. To me, that's more fun and has more potential for profit than buying a coin that is already maxed out.
