About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

A PERFECT PF 70?

Can you see the problem here? Hello all! I don't have too much to say about this beauty. I'd scream if it were a PF 70 W Ultra Cameo. I guess it happens to everyone.

Whooooooopeeee!

I got mine! WOW x 2! Lucky enough to get the new Abe. These (2) will definitely find there way to NGC. Good luck to everyone that submits theirs for grading too! This is the first time I have actually purchased a coin on the first day of issue. What's the next one? The mail lady loves me!!

ENCROACHMENT!

1st and goal on the 13. Hello all! Just a short note today. I upgraded a few quarters, and am in the "Red Zone" now. 13 more spots and I will have reached this year's goal. A member of the 500 club? I have been holding an ace, and thanks to a few members, I may not have to play it yet. Thanks to all of you for helping. Thanks for the support and guidance from others. A thank you to NGC for accepting all of my "coins", regardless of grading company. A final thank you to the "Gr

MATHMATICAL ERROR!

I thought my figures were close.......NOT!!! Hello again all! I just checked the PCGS price list for a Sacagawea proof 70 set(9 coin). Yup, only $5,825.00 for a nine coin set. My 10 coin sets in PCGS would be $7,975.00. I can see everyone jumping ship now. Just think of it this way. A 2000 Sac is worth more in PCGS than my entire, 10 coin, NGC PF 70 set. Amazing? A lot of people ask me why I have so many Sac sets. Now you know.

NGC vs PCGS ?

You may not like this......but Hello all! I am one of those that started out with nothing but NGC coins. My Silver Eagle set was (and is) all NGC. In 2000 I bought a MS69 Eagle in PCGS. I didn't like it. SOLD IT!!! I recently did the same thing with a bunch of 2009 Eagles in both MS 69 and MS 70. All my NGC coins are Early Releases. My PCGS is "First Strike" MS 70. Now comes my honest opinion. I have an NGC 69 that should be a 70. I have 3 69s that should be 69. The last 3 might b

Will there ever be 30? Hello all! Thanks to Jaime and Jim, I have been able to add a few more "W" quarters to my set. Will there ever be 30? Who knows.....did they ever grade all 30 with the "W" designation? 1999 silver will be the task.....If I get to 25, I'll be happy. Thanks again, and look through your extras...you might just have the ones I need. P.S. My 1958 proofs are in the mail....NGC forgot to do the imaging, so you'll all have to wait.

The elusive "W" statehood quarters

I know they are out there! Hello all! I have been fortunate enough to find a few more proof "W" designated state quarters. I am looking for silver mostly, and any clads in PF 70. I know there are 1999 silver proofs out there looking to get into my collection. I'd like to have 70s, but anything with six digits and the "W" are fair game. If you have any you might like to be rid of, I am all ears. I really don't want to pawn the Harley to get them, but I would like a fair price. NGC will

KUDOS TO NGC!

And I thought I was fast! Hello everyone! I just got a nice email from a fellow member. I also got a nice email from NGC. My 1958 proof set that I sent to NGC for grading(1/26/09)is ready for shipment. WOW! They have impressed me with a turn around like that. I know it won't happen like that always, but I have to say I love it. I expected several weeks and perhaps a bunch of non-grades coming back. I only submitted 5 coins. A 1958 proof set I had never opened. After 50 years I will

And I worry about photos?

Digital film is lousy anyhow. Hello all! Always trying to improve my image/s, I am playing photog with my PCGS sets. Things are going, but not going as well as I had hoped. I got denied on extra scoring on my "W" sets, and then read the NGC homepage defining the criteria for "star" designation. Strangely sounds like what they labelled the "W" coins for. In a moment of recovering, I went about cleaning up.. I've been adding to my sets a bit, and I took some time to look forward to 2009'

The Rise and Fall of 2006 Franklin Commemorative Set

I just had to have 'em. I never intended to start collecting coins at my age(now 61). The great sets I collected with my Grandfather would have been fine, except they were all stolen. I started a "raw set of eagles when they first came out, but being a single parent, I soon had to sell them off to pay bills. Well, I finally got a job where I could work decent hours and still be with my son after school. The money wasn't bad, so I thought about coins in slabs. With the little extra I had ev

Here's to Howard Eason

Only 500? Hello everyone! Well Howard, you made it. The big 500. CONGRATULATIONS! It is my goal to replace you by the end of the year. The coins I bought from you will help me stand at the 500 mark soon. I am extremely fortunate to be even as close as I am. Keep up the good work. If you don't, I'll pass you. Let's see a 450? Good Luck!

STOP THE PRESSES!

I stand corrected Oooooops I just saw a silver PF 70 Connecticut quarter in NGC PF 70 W Ultra Cameo. Simply amazing! I humbly stand corrected. I'd like to thank the owner for bringing it to my attention.

THE UNFINISHABLE STATEHOOD QUARTER SET?

You cannot have this set in PF 70. Hello all! I am off on a tangent again. I have started a set of statehood quarters that are unique, and I believe is only a 30 coin possibility. NGC had graded a few of the PF 69 Ultra Cameo sets of Statehood quarters with a "W" designation. Several months ago I asked if these were special, and all I found out is that the "W" was for a "white" or "whiter" device. I then saw a few offered in a lot with some silver coins I wanted so I got them. After a few

THE LOST '"W" ?

Three years and............poof! I have acquired the 1999-2001-S clad Statehood quarter sets in PF 69 W Ultra Cameo. An S proof 69 W ? Apparently NGC gave this "extra" distinction for a white, or whiter, device on the mirrored field. I just bought the last of the 15 coins I needed to complete a Signature set. I did a clad set, and now I see that there are some in silver also. I added them to my regular Statehood quarter set, but the coins I already had, listed as better. I was hoping that

A FIRST TIME FOR ME!

I guess it had to start somewhere. Hello all, Well, I have finally done it. I joined the Registry to see what it is all about, and I have taken my next baby step. Today I submitted my first coins for grading. I have several unopened proof sets that were given to me, and I finally broke down and sent one to NGC. Being only a Premier member, I thought the coupon with my subscription was the better way to get my feet wet. I decided on a 1958 proof set as my first submission. I filled out

JUST FOR GIGGLES

Native American Dollars? I just hope the Native Americans get slots of their own. I thought they were ridding us of the "Godless" coins? With so many dollars available, 6 new quarters, and 4 pennies. It's a dollars and cents hobbie anyway. In my case, more dollars than sense. I wish they'd stuck to just the American Eagles. Happy 2009 all!!!

HOPEFULLY???

My sets are getting bigger....... but. I am having a lot of trouble trying to get a good photo of my PCGS coins. I don't do a real good job on the NGC slabs, but they will, at least, scan.....to a point. I am so far behind in my descriptions and images. My sets are becoming infiltrated with PCGS slabs, and I am not happy with scanning them. I would like to represent all the coins in my set, so I am striving to achieve a passable photo. So far, I have only invested about $45.00 in lighti

YESSS!!!

2008 was a great year for me. I have only been a paying member for a little over 2 months. I have enjoyed every minute of it. I have been asked why I do so many Sacagawea sets? Why don't you do some other types of sets? Now I can answer both questions definitively. I never knew about the competition amongst members in the Registry. I do, however, love to compete. I also like to win.....sometimes. I tried to accomplish my goal of having one of the best sets available anywhere. I h

FINALLY......MY MODERN COMMEMORATIVE HALF DOLLARS ARE COMPLETE !!!

A 1982-D WASHINGTON 50C, MINT STATE 69? Wooooohooooo Yes......finally found a #1 coin. I completed listing my Modern Commemorative half dollars today, and gained over 100 points. I was hoping to make it closer to 500. I am still proud of where I am with such a meager collection in comparison to some. This set now is mostly PCGS, but a few NGC slabs made it. According to population reports from PCGS, I now have 4 top coins. Lucky me! When I find a way to get a good photo of these bluish

Don't destroy me, Paul.......but

You can only tie mine.....so far I haven't been here long, but I brought the competetive mood I've always had. I wanted a good set of Sacagaweas, but I got the bug. Yes, I now have the best Sac set in the Registry....bar none! All 10 coins from NGC in PF 70 Ultra Cameo. It's unfortunate I had to make a "Signature" set to make room for them. I also have the most 10 coin sets registered also. I was very fortunate to amass these. I would welcome other collectors to share the top spot. It only t

THE VERDICT IS IN!

The jury has made it's decision. First, I'd like to thank the members who were nice enough to serve as jurors in my trial over the toning Eagle chicks. After all the evidence was presented and documented, I have decided to pass down sentence upon these wonderful slabbed coins. They are destined to serve the rest of their time in my collection. They will, however, lose their place in the Registry. I have acquired another pair to replace them, but only to maintain the pristine look of the

namvette68

namvette68

I need a verdict!

Keep it or replace it? I just received a pair of 2008 Bald Eagle half dollars in NGC grades, MS and PF 70. The proof is already toning. Is this desireable? Should I replace it? Should I protect it from further toning(Intercept Shield), or let it go on toning? I keep all my coins in Intercept Shield boxes to prevent this, but I need at least another opinion. See what you think.

ROTATED DIE ERRORS?

What amount of rotation does it take to qualify? I have a few 2006 Franklin Scientist Commems in mint state. The reverse is not square to the obverse. I would like to know how rotated it has to be to qualify as a mint error? Does anyone have a Franklin with this mint error? I have asked several local dealers and collectors, but no 100% positive answer. The set I have registered has a pretty square obverse in comparison. I attached a scan of the typical rotation. Is it considered an error?

namvette68

namvette68

Another perfect 10?

It only took 1 coin. It only takes one coin to make a complete set. I have added that coin to my Sacagawea 9. I only wish the 477 points would be added to it's score to acknowledge it's totality.
