I don't get it!
I just viewed a set, well sort of viewed, it was obscured. Interestingly it had images for all the coins in the obscured set.
And I almost viewed them.
Now, I can understand having the coins registered here for safety and identification and even imaged, but what is the point of having them in a set, ranked 1 in some cases, when no one can see ANYTHING about what the set is filled with (beyond total pts and % complete).
IMHO these sets should not be in "competition" wi
If collectors buy this garbage, we will continue to get offered garbage!
I for one have no intention of wasting 1c on a Presidential dollar.
And as a group of people that should be able to send a message to the US Mint, we want quality, we want coins made of silver/gold/platinum, not some slab of clad metal. At least give us something that has a melt value!
Now I have wasted too much of my life on these loser coins. I will never comment on them again.
Would you spend real dollars for a coin in a slab of a TPG that has/had a lesser reputation?
IMO, once a reputation is low, it is exceedingly hard to raise up too far. I for one, would not spend much for a coin in ICG holders (or any other holders than NGC/PCGS). Melt value, perhaps, but I wouldn't spend much more than that. It's difficult enough, without having to worry about the reputation of the TPG, to do well.
Also, resale is a concern. I have heard of long waits to sell ICG graded coi
Here in Denver, the buds are nowhere to be seen!
But what can one do but spend hours perusing all the coin sites. Both the Registry sites and sellers sites. You never know what you will find. For instance, I wasn't really looking for them but I found 3 of the 4 missing $5 AGE DCAMS I am lacking for reasonable $$$$.
Being cooped up has its advantages too!!!
Setting my collecting goals for 2007
I Resolve:
1) Not to start any new sets this year. I have enough already started and not completed.
2) To finish my Buffalo nickel short set. I need 3 to complete it.
3) To finish my Indian Quarter Eagle set. Need 2 to complete and 1 upgrade needed.
4) To continue working on my 1899 Mint Set. Need 10 to complete. Do you have any I need? Let me know.
5) To work on 1891 Mint set.
6) To pickup my usual moderns- American Eagles, dimes and halves. Sa
Half way there but now the hard to find coins remain.
I now have 12 of the 22 coins of the 1899 mint set. There are still 2 left to buy that are readily available but the other 8 will not be so easy. They also look to be at a higher level of $$$$.
It is a beautiful set of coin designs. And I look forward to getting the rest of them although the remaining coins are far less often offered for sale. Heritage and David Lawrence are my most likely sources for them. From time to time, the more rar
My eyes were like saucers when I saw all the vendors tables. And I almost didn't find anything to buy!!!
Well, coin shows sure have changed since 1965. Friday, I attended the ANA World's Fair of Money and let me tell you there were more coins in one place than I have ever seen (excluding US Mint tours)!
Recently, I decided to work on a 1899 Mint set. This Mint set is going to be harder than I expected to complete. I came to that realiziation when after going to most of the tables, I saw less
I haven't been to any Numismatic events since childhood. But that is about to change.
Since I live in Denver, I am going to the show this Friday. I don't really quite know what to expect but I'm afraid I'll come home from it with a new idea for collecting. Like I need more??!!
The advertisements on TV indicate there will be lots to see. It should be fun.
The only Group we (myself and fellow collectors), support is.....
the group that consists of eBay, Heritage, David Lawrence etc.
They are enablers.
Now everyone.... right click on your eBay bookmark and go to delete.
Ha- More for me!!!!

Yeah, it's authentic but not original!
As I see it, and I am no professional, any original coin surface that has been altered in any way will be body bagged. Fortunately, the best 3rd party graders (NGC/PCGS) do grade circulated coins. But heavens forbid that even a circulated coin had ever been cleaned. That's body bag material too. I have had enough body bags to last me a while!!!!
Enjoy it for it's beauty! It still retains it's metal value.

I had my addiction under control until recently, now my Liberty Gold Half Eagle collection has swelled to 20 examples.
I have added some nice Liberty Half Eagles. This set has become my primary set of interest at this time. There are lots of coins in this set (over 200), many that I probably will have no chance of owning. But I am looking to keep getting the rarest ones I can afford. Gold is a good place to be right now! :^)

Here in Colorado, it's.........
sunny and up to 50 degrees. Tomorrow even warmer. Have to go to the mountains to see much snow.
Now, on to photograph my new acquisitions to post here.
Ever notice that you already know what you want to start a set of next?
Just another manifestation of the addiction.
The next set I start is gonna be a set of NGC 20c coins. Part of the attraction is it is a short set but that doesn't make it inexpensive.
I am a couple coins away from finishing my Indian quarter eagle set then comes the 20c set!
In a way, it's my parents fault!
When I was a kid in rural southern Maryland, a coin show would be held in our town's public library. THEY TOOK ME THERE! I bought my first coin. Others soon followed, then I became a teenager and the coin addiction went into remission.
Then I found the devils, eBay and slabs. Almost 2 years later, I've purchsed a couple hundred slabs (not all eBay!). I,(un)fortunately, don't have a wife to help me stop.
Then I ask myself, "Why stop?", then I say to myself,
Need 2 more photos to be 100%.
Well, it's taken a month of weekend days to finish photgraphing, cropping and posting my coin collection. But I am nearly there!
Until Michael's first scolding journal entry, I was one of those that just enjoyed others collection photos without sharing my collection. His posting opened my eyes and now I am 2 coin photos away from having 100% photographed.
To all thinking about it. It is a good way to get a good close look at your collection.
I've followed the "comments" from fellow collectors and have posted many new pics.
This weekend I posted nearly 60 (actually 120, two shots per coin) phots of coins in my collection. I have lots more photos to take and post.
Interestingly, incuse Indian gold quarter eagles are extremely difficult to get good shots of (at least with a digital camera). I worked rather hard to get the results I did get.
Bottom line in photographing coins is light. I used natural light from a window and when
