RGT
Could this be real? I heard these PCI cases cause this toning? Any insight appreciated.. Those old PCI holders do indeed cause toning and more so on silver eagles. That certainly could be toning from the holder but most of the PCI holder toning that I have seen has had much tighter bands and stayed closer to the rims. The storage environment and history could play a big role too.

Elbesaar
Nice 1807 CBH, Lee. My lap top crashed and now i'm using an iPad2 and have not figured out how to capture images or be able to post them. I picked up a few Seated Halves in Beverly Hills HA Auction, and am very pleased with those. I think I posted my 1891 proof Half - which only leaves the Morgan to complete that set. I also picked up a very nice 1847 Seated Half in a PCGS AU 58 holder - which, I have always wanted A 100 yr old anniversary coin for my birth year. EDIT to add: I think it'd be pretty interesting to get a Mint Set collection for that date. Nothing super rare comes to mind - dated 1847..... I also picked up some CC Morgans for my budding CC collection ! Nothing very high end, just nice coins: 78-cc in a ms 63 old rattler; 80/79-cc Rev of 78 in a 63+.; and a pair of 82-cc Morgans, one in a 65 OGH and the other in a DMPL - MS 64 . I liked both so much, I couldn't decide ... So I got both. I was also struck by a beautifully original toned 1879-S in an NGC 63 fatty holder. It's not as wildly toned as so many I have seen, but just the right amount of " crustiness " in toning; Deep cobalt blues and plums with the centrals blazing golden white with screaming luster. Not an expensive coin, but something to admire for many years to come. It sort of matches the 1885 Morgan I got last month - so I am pleased I noticed it. Well, I have bent your "ear" long enough... Happy Hunting Everyone !!! Mike Edited November 11, 2011 by Elbesaar

coinman_23885
Could this be real? I heard these PCI cases cause this toning? Any insight appreciated.. Yes, PCI holders are notorious for this. 0.9993 silver tones faster than .9000 (so called coin silver).

ModCrewman-migration
I don't collect buffalo nickels but my 13 year old son is working on a set. When I was at my local B&M on Saturday I took a few minutes to look through his raw buffalos and couldn't leave this one behind. rons
I added these two to my short set of Walkers last month but just got around to trying to image them. I am now needing only the 35d and s to complete the short set. It has been a long struggle to locate and then be able to afford these last few coins. I will add the grades later just for fun Edited November 14, 2011 by rons
