Popular Post Buffalo Head
These are twins. I personally plucked them out of the same coin album years ago. In case you’re wondering it’s a 27-S and an 18-P. I find it amazing they have toned up so similar. This is a great thread and I hope we can keep it going. There has to be more nickel lovers out there. Let see them nickels🤩 Edited September 18, 2022 by Buffalo Head rrantique, “”, Lem E and 1 other

All the edges and denticles are intact. Of particular note are the fluted "columns" comprising the I I I, or denomination of the coin. I know of one other comparable example, a shield nickel dated slightly older which, too, features a pristine surface within the "shield" which I urged member @tigerbait to submit which found favor with NGC graders good enough to post recently, returned with an exceptionally high grade, which I would hope he would consider honoring us with a post here. If one were to consider all the things that could have occurred to the I I I-cent piece with a nickel alloy over the course of 1-1/2 centuries, it is truly remarkable none has. Outstanding example, NN! Edited September 19, 2022 by Quintus Arrius Die polishing to enhance readability. The Neophyte Numismatist

This nickel was made by Francis Henning. "Henning Nickels" have become collectible in their own right. The primary identifier is the missing mint mark above Monticello (as seen on other War Nickels). These nickels are so popular, that they are often faked (can you imagine a fake of a fake?). The arrow points to the die marker (the little flare coming off the last corner of Monticello) that shows that this "coin" is a genuine fake .
