Another reason to dislike EBAY

Twice this week I have been bid sniped on eBay. I was the only bidder for six days and a few minutes befor ending, another higher bid received. Three times I raised, and at the 1 second mark the bid was sniped.

EBay explains their policy. Attached.

so they allow software to Bid snipe.

I hate to give away my secrets... I snipe most of the eBay auctions I win.  I probably do a lot of other things to take auctions out from under people that would be frowned upon.  I don't use software, it's all manual... but, I am sure I have upset some people along the way.

It’s been that way forever.

I’m slow in catching on. But I just found what I wanted that accepts offers which the seller promptly accepted. This is going to be my new approach. Got my last Ben Franklin MS64Fbl and a nice 1904 O Morgan MS 63 for less than retail with free shipping.

I last had a sniping program when the BlackBerry Playbook was current. In fact, that might be when I stopped shopping for coins online altogether.

That works I have made offers and some have been accepted. Good deal Bill

I have found that most 1950-D (not 51-D) Franklins are disappointing looking. Have you found really nice ones?

I like Ebay as a buying and selling venue and have lost some coins I really wanted, but at other times I have had great results for wins as well. I usually wait until auction end before bidding, input my max amount and watch the result!

Where I have been getting beaten up is Great Collections. I think I have lost 5 auctions in the last month in the waning seconds!

This is mine in my registry set.  I think a lot of the earlier dates and mints can be challenging to find with nice appeal. They are there, just be patient. They also bring big premiums!

That has that “double mint set coin” look. But if memory serves, they didn’t do those in 1950, thinking that proof sets would replace them.

Yes the vast majority of the 1948-1963 FBL are very nice, a couple are suspect in my mind. Fir some reason the 51d’s are usually well over $100, but I got this one at $55 all in. They can be seen in my Registry (I think)

As I thought. Just a little “flatter” than 48-49.

I wait till the very last second to put bids in on eBay, GC, etc., and send sellers on eBay messages asking if they would accept lower numbers all the time, as I'm sure many others do too.

There is a flip side. I lost a bid on a $20 Gold Saint I liked by waiting just a hair too long on Sun. It didn't register my bid in time. Oh well, maybe I will get the next one I like for even less.

This is the biggest problem with sniping bids.  I lost two last week, one froze and the other... my counter was off by 3 seconds.  I lost both, and was so irritated.  But, that's the game.

@Mr.Bill347 I REALLY like the 51-D - Congrats! :golfclap:

True that is the game.  I have started allowing a little more time to account for counters being off due to server lag, etc.

What year, grade, and price range was it ?  I know you've been looking, fingers crossed.

BYea Boss I know, it’s the gamble you sign up for. I was just chapped because I was snip d two times in a row. In the end, I got what I was after.

I actually got a great buy yesterday on an NGC MS63 O Morgan

im happy now

If I really want a coin, I'll watch and place my bid a few seconds before auction end.  Usually, 15 seconds to reduce the likelihood of a slow response.

I don't buy much anymore and nothing common.  I've bought four coins this year, two on eBay.  1768 Bolivia 1/2R XF (lightly corroded on one side I think) and a 1772 Peru 2R (pillar not portrait) roughly fine with a small but noticeable scratch.  No, I can't find any better examples.  Total cost for both about $100.

If I were still buying common coins, I'd place my max bid earlier and just forget about it until I am notified if I won or lost.

I cant see the counter on GC. I dont own a computer so I dont know if its because I use my phone or what.

@Hoghead515 I have noticed that too about the counter not going down on my phone, so I just periodically refresh the page if I am submitting a last-minute bid at GC from my phone.
