I just agreed to take this more common dated Quarter

from someone who is liquidating his Barbers - his others

are nicer than this 55 - most a nicely toned 58's - but they

would have ended up being duplicates and I have too many

of those as it is...

THE COIN ARRIVED MONDAY - OCT. 7TH - IT HAS MUCH MORE LUSTER

THAN THE IMAGES PORTRAY. ITS NOW OFF TO CAC FOR SOME GREEN

BEANING !! :cloud9:

Thanks, Justin. Seems my set is just steamrolling along.

I had some eBay Bucks to use and decided to grab this

for my Low Ball Set of Liberty Head Nickels ( I have others

in MS 62 & 63 ) ...

Well, I was hoping to have been the 150,000 th hit on this Barber Thread,

but it seems since yesterday 124 people clicked on, left no message, or

posted no images. Still, it chugs along. There are just shy of 1,600 posts

to this thread and that does seem like quite a bit, yes, but surely someone

can throw in a discussion of any Barber Topic. I'd love to see something

else but my posts getting up here.

Ok, I heard from John Frost, the IT Guy at the BCCS ( Barber Coin Collectors

Society ) and it seems as if I was nominated (by Glenn Holsonbake) to work on

Half Dollar Varieties.

So, here's a chance to list your thoughts as to which Half varieties are the most

important to you. Any variety works, I'll compile a list before the end of the year

and forward that list to the BCCS for inclusion in their Spring 2014 Quarterly.

Members would then have approximately 6 months to list which coins they have

... It was done last year with Quarters - and proved a rousing success.

If you have images of a variety and want to attach them to a post, great. The more

images the better. Knowing that the Half Dollar series is the more preferred one

among collectors, I am hoping this readership will take a few moments and jot down

their thoughts and attach any images they have.

Full credit will be given to the contributor in the BCCS Journal.

Happy hunting everyone.

..... ending with a Barber - from the IPad... Hope it attaches...here is the newest 01-S

graded by Pcgs... AU 53....

Mike,

As far as half dollar varieties:

1892 TDR

1892 Micro O

1901 hub varieties

1907 S/S

1909 Inv S

1911 S/S

Not sure of any others.

By the way, is that Doug's new coin already crossed?

Thanks, Justin.

No, that was an NGC 50 that Vern & I inspected at Chicago,

which belonged to Kollector-King and who consigned it to

Robbie at The Reeded Edge.

The owner took Robbie's advice and submitted the coin for

cross over; the coin has since been sold to a collector who

posts ATS Mega Thread. He has mentioned it in his posts.

Nice coin, but I still like Doug's better in the NGC 53 holder;

it's a matter of personal taste I guess. Doug's coin's surfaces

are unmarked and just light rub is evident. Some have downgraded

His coin to a 45 or 50; I assure you, it's as nice or nicer than any

53 I have seen ( PCGS has a POP - One in 53... Imaged above ),

but I have seen dozens on AU's over the years... Many qualifying

for the 53 grade. The POP's would be higher on this date if people

would leave their coins alone and not try and squeeze a point or two

higher by doctoring the surfaces. Jeez, no matter how hard they try

and how skillful these coin doctors are, their feeble attempts are always

shown up.

The other 01-S from the recent Heritage auction, a PCGS 55,

which was not viewed all that favorably by those who got a good

chance of viewing it in hand, is now for sale at a major's dealers'

Web Site. I was contacted about buying it, however, there is yet

another 55 out there that has my name on it. All I have to do is

wait for the owner to decide to sell. It may be a few years though.

Thanks for the 01-S synopsis, Mike. I figured out who that coin belongs to. I don't know much about 01-S's, but I understand your remarks on the cleaning. I have only seen one AU in hand (messed with) and the last few that have come to market have been heavily hair-lined (according to people seeing them in hand). It sounds like Doug's NGC coin is the exception. And if it is, what a nice grab for him!

Ah, to have the money to spend on an 01-S 25c in AU. Maybe someday! :)

I spotted this little number on eBay - and they were asking PCGS

Guide Book Price for it. I think the coin is a couple of points nicer

than the grade....

Amazing what you'll find when you least expect to find it....

I wasn't searching for this date, as I have a very pleasant

AU 58 in my collection and last month, sold my MS 66 ...

but this coin spoke to me... and, it's a fairly good match to

my 1898-O Quarter in MS.

If only I could locate an 1898-S that looks like this....

1898-PQuarterPCGS64REVLg_zpsb8f7821f.jpg

My 1898-O for comparison...

Nice 08-D I also thought it was uandergraded but didnt have the funds..

Mark,

I thought so as well, but the coin arrived yesterday -

its a nice 53 - no more - no less.

I was at the Sarasota Coin Show yesterday morning

and was very close to buying another Quarter - 1908-O

in PCGS 58 - price was right - it was a great coin - and would

have bought it - however - my inventory sheets said I owned

one in 58 with a CAC...

1908-OQuarterPC58CAC_zps795f1af6.png

Now that I see my images - the one at the show was nicer. I should have

bought it - but I really didn't want any more duplicates. Now, I'm not too happy about it. Oh, well.

Just made arrangements to add a few newps for the Quarter set.

Images and coins forthcoming.

As I am away on vacation, and don't have my lap top, all I can do,

is hope the Images come out.

Was able to add one more ......

This one is an AU 53... Got to be the nicest 53 out there.

Compare it to the two 58's above this post.

No Baltimore show for me, however,

Glenn Holsonbake will be there and

is being assisted by two YN's from the

ANA Summer Seminars last Summer.

Mike and Weston will be there with Glenn.

Stop by and introduce yourself.

I'll PM you regarding financials.

I had a feeling you would end up with that One Mike, I watched and tracked it 1 week before the bidding started. Wanted it bad lol.. Congrats. The 1910-D was simply amazing as well. I bid on your 06p ms63 but was maxed out quickly. 2013-11-05104440_zps7867c85f.png2013-11-05104512_zps3efacc58.png

Congrats on the newps, Mark. I especially like the 1906-D -

and thanks again for offering it to me this morning, it's greatly

appreciated.

Never noticed the weekend auctions on Heritage, and I usually

miss out on some very nice coins, like the ones you just bought.

Thanks Mike and YW. I have the Heritage Mobile on my cell so I don't miss anything with the quarters. I'm on it several times a day.. I do like the 06-D as it is the 1st one I have seen that's a solid strike because most of the 1906-D have not so great striking. I like my 01p 58 it's alot tougher than most thinK. Not many of either coin show up more than a very few times a year from what i have researched in my short time as a Barberite.

Congratulations, Reid.

One tough date in any condition and

yours looks at least a 40+.

These are so difficult to locate in any grade,

and are far rarer than the noted 16-D Dime.

My last circulated Dime for my latest set was

also an 1895-O ... So, I know exactly how you

feel !!

A few years ago, I had all my raw Dimes imaged. However, I never received

the hard copies. I recently sent off all my old CD's to a different photographer

than who imaged the coins and he worked on getting the obverse so aligned

with the correct reverses. I now have my virtual collection at home and the

coins themselves in the safe deposit boxes in the bank.

I hope this attaches.... ( no such luck... Looks like I'll need to work on this

project over the holidays. )

It also happens to be one of the hardest dates to locate over a VF grade:
