Really attractive P/L - .

I have no problems with it being a 64PL.

Thanks for sharing it !

I picked up an upgrade for the Dime collection...

... thought it was worth a premium ... and so did a

competing bidder [ a dealer I know of ] so I didn't

get away with a bargain, that's for sure !

The latest addition to my family; it has a nice rainbow tone that I can't seem to capture with my poor photography skills.

Jeff,

Your imagery skills are far superior to mine and I think you're doing great.

My images should look so good. Thanks for sharing and again, it was good

to meet you at FUN last month.

No newps to report as yet, I leave for the ANA this weekend - and I still need to

get to the bank safe deposit boxes pull out a few things I'd like to sell ( mostly

duplicates ) and a few things for trade. I hope to be acquiring one of the prettiest

1904-S Dimes in existence - and although its "merely" an AU 55, it kicks butt over

my AU 58 !!

I plan on meeting up with John Baumgart while in Chicago; I have a bunch of Barbers

that I want imaged. It gets a bit pricey to have them imaged professionally, but it's the

images I keep at home - the real deal are always secure in the bank.

Hope to see as many of you as possible at the Chicago ANA - it opens Tuesday -

and again, I'll be at table 636 with Glenn Holsonbake ( aka: PonyExpress8) as well

as Dennis Hengeveld ( Dennis88) and Daniel Tsai ( Steeler ).

Well my friends - having spent 8 solid days immersed in Barbers - I have the pleasure of

bringing home a few small trophies... and one BIG purchase for a good friend who couldn't

make it to Chicago.

First off, I spotted the only Proof Like Dime I have ever encountered.

Its a 1910-S PCGS 63+ in a newer tri pronged holder. Its fully proof like

and I should have my images back within a week. When I went to register

the coin ATS - they already had a Tru-View image of the coin. The die polish

lines are heavier looking in the images than in hand. The coin is basically white

on the OBV and has a couple of blue rim toning areas on the REV.

This image is much darker than the coin in hand - its in a Secure Plus

Holder - and this must be a quick snap shot of the coin for furure ID.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another neat purchase was an addition to the Elbesaar -II Collection of

Barber Quarters - with a nice 1899-O which was cracked out of an NGC 53

holder - it was from the same consignment that Ponyexpress8 had while

we were teaching at the ANA in COS- CO. All of those coins came back

AU 53, 53, 55 & 58 - so I half expect this newp to do the same. I have the old

tag number - so - when I register it - it might have an old image.

The YN I spoke of earlier brought the two quarters I wanted - my new 1911-P

in PCGS 58 CAC - an a newp for my friend - an 1892-O Ty 2 PCGS 58 CAC

that turned out to be a DDO w/ a DDR !! Score !!

Spotted a nice addition to the Half set: 1899-O - but in an ANACS 40 holder.

I plan on having it crossed - and then decide which of the two 40's I'll keep.

The newp is a lock 45 - IMHO - so - I think it'll be an easy decision.

My last newp was an upgrade for my SLQ set - a 27-D in PCGS 65 with

a 99% FH - for a slight premium over a regular strike, Again, images forth

coming.

A Forum member sent me a PM and requested a trade of his 1904-S Dime

in PC 55 - for trade against some of my triplicates. He picked out some nice

coins - an 1899-O in PC 45 - an 1899-S in PC 40 and a 1913-S in PC 30.

We were both satisfied - and I picked up a triplicate 04-S that has phenom

color - and of course - I had it imaged as well - because no one will under-

stand my verbal description.

Oh yeah, the "BIG purchase" I made for my friend is a 1909-O Quarter in

PC 63 with eye appeal of a 65+ Personally, I think its undergraded

and would look good in a 64/ 64+ holder - I don't think they'd bump it to a 65+.

There is a ton of flash on the coin and its mostly white with the faintest rim

toning - a soft burnt orange [ more than likely secondary toning ] but it takes

your breath away in hand. He had to pay thru the nose for it as there was a

collector who wanted the coin as well - and I had my associate convince his

customer to allow us to sell it to my friend.

My associate - Ponyexpress8 - was very successful at both sets of aucions.

I'll let him describe his newps - some of which were on hand for viewing and

for sale at out table.

I think Ponyexpress8 will be posting to his site very shortly - and it will be

to your benefit to check it out - I have his direct web site if interested.

I made arrangements with a Forum member to do an exchange / coin swap:

I have not figured out how to crop images - but I do have professional images

forthcoming. This is a very attractive coin and much nicer in hand than on these

images.

Yes, it looks a whole lot better on this Thread, where us Barberites can stop and admire it.

That's a very attractive coin, congrats on picking it up. It's got nice original luster and the toning

is spot on.

Mike, the new half looks great as well as the dimes. I don't know much about the dimes, but I can honestly say I never saw a PL before. Very cool.

mrkbrown8709, that looks like a very solid half.

Here's a recent pick up from Glenn. Upgrades my current VF20.

I don't think the 1904 Half in NGC 55 will get a higher grade if and when you

try and cross it. It shouldn't slide down a grade either. It's a lock 55. Sending it

to CAC, thru an authorized dealer or a collector who has an account, may get

you a green bean, for sure, but not a gold one.

Nice coin there Justin. Very nice. It has a great look for the grade - am glad to

see you keeping our friend in business. Too bad you don't collect Dimes, I just

consigned a couple dozen nice XF-AU's to him in PC plastic, while helping him

out in Chicago. They are not up (yet) on his website. I sold a slew of them while

at the show. I brought them to the show to work a trade for another 04-S Dime

"I had to have" .... Once the trade was consummated, I released them to the public.

While at the ANA, I had 45 coins imaged by Messydesk ( John Baumgart ) and

I should have the images shortly - all of which will be posted here. Only one non

Barber was imaged... A splendid 1927-D Quarter in PC 65 - CAC - with a 99% FH.

I paid a $200 premium over non FH price, but considering if it had an unbroken

hair line at her temple, the coin would have been $2,100 more.

The other day, I contracted to buy a very nice small group of AU 53-58 Quarters, some scarce

dates, mostly common ones though. The toughest one was an 1897-S Quarter in PC

55 ( has PL surfaces, not attributed on the holder ). This MM variety is the most common,

"MM far to right."

A Barber friend showed me his 1897-S - Centered MM - in PC 55 while at the show...

By far and away the rarest variety Quarter out there. [ NOT the rarest Quarter however ].

I was able to pick up another 1895-O AU 50 Dime for my AU set, although I own one in

MS 64 - it's a Die Cap - and wanted a non error coin in the AU set. Now, that set is complete

but have a half dozen XF's in the set, which I hope to replace with AU 53-58's as I find them.

My Mint State Dime set is slowly getting there, I think I am 25-30% complete in MS. I have

spotted a few coins at dealers' tables that I really like, but the prices for 64-66 are prohibitive.

If I see a nicely toned 62-63, then they might work for me in this lower grade MS collection.

I have a few friends who are still working ( I am retired now for 2 years ) and they can

afford grades I only wish I could afford. 65-68's are out of the question these days. I

enjoy the hunt and finding coins my friends need is almost as much fun as finding them for myself ... well, almost.

I located & bought a great 1909-O Quarter in PC 63... My friend had it on his want list - and now

he likes it so much, he's going to resubmit it to PCGS - as he feels it's a lock 67 Reverse with a

65+ Obverse - I really like the coin for a MS 65 myself even though it was in a 63 holder. Bigger

grading mistakes have happened before and will again. What I had forgotten, was that he was

the winning bidder two years ago for my 09-O Quarter in PC 64. Now, I wish I had waited to sell

off the Quarters. My old MS 64 sold for half what the 63 sold for this past week.

Happy hunting, everyone.

Mike, are you going to be bidding on any of the Newman collection? I saw a lot of impressive Barbers in that group! Some of the proofs are just outstanding.

The coin is a nice PL - and it's hard to grade from images.

It's not a Gem, but, regardless, it's attractive.

I have not looked at any of the Newman Barbers, yet.

Knowing the caliber of the collection as a whole, my

current collecting needs are far less lofty as those in

the Newman Collection. As I always say, if I win Lotto,

all bets are off !!

There are MANY affordable coins in the Newman Collection, quite shocking actually....I did not spend much time looking at just the Barbers as I did spend time looking at everything. There are $40-$50 coins in the collection!!! Shocking! Granted you will not pay $40-$50 because there will be at minimum a couple hundred dollar PEDIGREE you will have to pay for on a low end coin...

Oh, one more thing. You can't win the lotto, it's all mine!
