?..... All the references about old folk.... ?

Justin, I really like my old 1905 Quarter, even more

than the one in my current set. Why did I ever sell that

one ? Oh, yeah, I upgraded it to a 64. Now, I have a

decent 55. Thank you for letting me know about your

friend selling his Quarters to Glenn - I think I picked up

a few nice additions.

Sorry you won't be at FUN, I'll be showing off the finest

1892-O Micro O Half, courtesy of Dale Friend who is not

able to attend the BCCS meeting.

I wish I could see it. I saw Peter Shireman's in Pittsburgh a few years ago.

I just received a new purchase and took some pictures to post. They show the detail well, but not the coins luster (they make it look dull). I still need to figure out this photography thing!

Here's the coin- an 1894 S Barber Half Dollar in a PCGS holder:

1894%20S%20OBV%20Small.jpg

1894%20S%20Rev%20small.jpg

Does anyone care to guess the grade?

About a month ago I cracked this half out of it's PCGS XF 45 holder, removed the green spot on the reverse, and submitted it raw to PCGS. It came back as a AU 55 (no new pictures of the holder). I doubt it would have made that jump if I submitted it for a "reconsideration" grade.

JeffRM, What did you use and how did you use it? I have a small green spot on a Liberty Nickel that needs to be removed ASAP!

Really nice "four bits"!

My immediate reaction was that it's an AU 53-55.

Never in a million years would I have thought it was

XF 45. Don't blame you one bit for cracking it out.

Although, I thought reconsideration would be safer.

I have sent in a PCGS 64 Barber Quarter for reconsideration

and it was returned in a MS 65+ holder !

So,,it depends on if the coin is a circulated coin or MS ?

Interesting. Nice coin, Jeff.

I dipped the coin in acetone, but it didn't remove the "spot". It turns out the "spot" was an "object"; a quick poke with a toothpick took it off. Acetone is supposed to remove PVC, but in this case I think it had too much substance to do the trick. Trust me, I was very nervous during this delicate operation.

Jeff, I'm glad you got it off. From the looks of the picture, it was still active. For a spot like that, I normally just treat the spot with a toothpick dipped in acetone. I have used it quite a few times of Barber halves. I see it a lot on them.

I once bought a beautiful 04-S half in VF. When it arrived it had a spot in the wreath. I decided to return it, not wanting to take the chance then. I wasn't afraid of doing it, I was just afraid of doing it to an expensive (for me) coin. With doing it a few times now, I wish I would have just cracked it and treated it. An 04-S isn't easy to find nice in VF, and now I regret sending it back.

I see the ghost of the San Francisco mint!

But it is in the wrong location from the other "S" minted quarters that I have seen for 1901, which is between the R and D of QUARTER DOLLAR.

Excellent OI82w8

Yes - wrong location - this location was used only one year - 1892

Wrong MM Die used - Used a Half Dollar Die

Coin is what the experts call a Phantom MM.

Currently holdered in an NGC 58 Holder

Earlier today, I was speaking with my friend, Walt and he had a few

Quarters left from his old set that have not sold.

I decided to upgrade my 1893-O - PCGS 53 - EX: Paesan Collection

for this beautiful PCGS 58 EX: Tin Cup Collection.

These are both beautiful coins. Are you selling the toned AU53? If so, I'm interested in buying it from you although I don't know how that works here.

Questions such as this should be better off handled thru a PM.

No,offense taken, I'd probably do the same thing if I first started

posting to,the coin forums.

FWIW: The coin is being held for a YN that I am mentoring.

Edit: On second thought, I like the coin too much to sell it.

You just never see them this nice with full original toning !

Sorry MB, I'm gonna keep it.

Returned the coin due to a staple scratch on cheek.

Edit: I am referring to an 1909-Phila Quarter that had

a hidden scratch in front of Liberty's nose. The camera

wasn't angled correctly to,pick it out. I removed the image

as the coin is still available for sale ... the seller might not

appreciate my dumping on his coin. ?

Thanks for your answer. I apologize for not understanding coin forum etiquette. My husband encouraged me to join here because he enjoys forums related to his interests, but we're different and this may not be for me. I enjoy coin collecting because it brings back my dad in a way that nothing else does. I'm so grateful that he shared his love for coins with me and I don't want to do anything to diminish the joy, peace, and nearness of him this hobby brings.

Coins also bring me back to my Dad as well. We had a real connection there.

His favorite coin was the Barber - so - we had that interest together.

Couple of newps for the evening.

They are duplicates - but I couldn't resist them !

Larry,

The Olive and Plum toning on your Dime really add

a lot of character to the coin. Would love to see it in

person. Glenn and I will be in Atlanta next month in

case you'd like to show it off. Look for Holsonbake

Numismatics. ( No table number as yet ).

Mesmerizing Dime. Thx for sharing it.

I have been neglectful as of late to bumping this Thread.

It now has just over 167,132 hits !!

I added a few coins recently - these two at auction:

I have two more Halves coming - but will wait before I post them.

Also one Dime - that I thought stunning. I'd like to have the Dime removed

from its case - and have the REV on the front.

Images of the Dime forthcoming.
