I feel like this is one of those areas where NGC is just never going to be able to win. Back in the day NGC used to send back coins that would have gotten "details grades" now in plastic bags with labels that people called "body bags" because when it got put in that bag the coin was essentially "dead." People complained that they would have at least liked having the coin in a slab / holder and with it showing that the coin is genuine at least. So, NGC, having historically had pretty great customer service and listening to people when they can, started the policy of details grading and slabbing coins that were at least genuine. And now people complain about them doing that when the policy and the approach to handing the situation is detailed on the website. I think it just goes to show that you'll never please everyone. But, honestly, they do about the best job you can reasonably expect.

The obvious one that most of us are going to know and recognize on the Boards is Coin928 - Congrats to him - but we also have a double-win for Deposito I think (and I feel like maybe he's been on the boards in the past, but maybe I'm remembering wrong) and we also have a win from Electric Peak. So, a few recognizable names there. Congrats to all of them and the others we don't know.

Actually, I do not recall seeing any forum activity from member coin928, doesn't mean that he is not on the forum just that I don't remember the name.   The one I did recognize is @Zebo who received a best classic set award.

Yes, they ditched the cards and the last time we got the jab the Dr told us that it was now considered endemic and we were going to just have annual CoVID shots now to go with the flu shots. Such a joy. The world keeps turning and finding ways to try to kill us.

My reaction to my latest booster was pretty terrible at the injection site. Same for my son and Mother-in-law. I was quite shocked. I had redness for days in that spot and the skin was hot to the touch.

Ultimately, if serves any purpose, I suspect the NGCX scale is only going to serve to create market confusion among casuals and newbies and I don't think it will bring new people in.
I honestly wonder if this hobby really has any legs left because most people my age and younger aren't into it and all I ever seem to see is people saying, "My grandpa died and gave me this. How much is it worth" (while looking to cash out on it probably.)
We need to bring in a newer generation, and I respect the attempt, but I don't think this is the way to do it.

As a ChemE, I'd always heard the term "noble metals" applied to metals that generally don't rust or tarnish.
It's also sometimes funny to me to think that aluminum was once considered semi-precious, or at least valuable, because for a time it was very hard to produce / separate metallic aluminum. Then they found a cheap way to do it and all of a sudden you get aluminum cans instead of tin cans. But it was surprising and funny to find Italian coins from the ~1950s made out of Aluminum.

To this I would add, White Balance / White balancing can be tricky when you don't have a grey / white object in the shot for calibrating on.

Here's an interesting discussion of the subject between the Mint Director and an encyclopedia company.

     Gentlemen:
In answer to your letter of the 21st instant, in which you ask my opinion of the following definition of the “precious metals,” viz: “Usually gold and silver, but sometimes made to include mercury and the platinum metals.” I would say that I doubt if the words ever suggest to the mind of an English speaker or reader any metals but gold and silver. I am of the opinion that strictly speaking only the metals employed in the mintage of standard coins are properly called precious. It is their monetary use more than their value that entitles them to that designation; and it would seem that platinum has been sometimes called precious, mainly because it has carried between 1828 and 1845 in Russia There are at least eighteen metals more valuable, weight for weight, than gold; platinum is one of them, but mercury is not.
Little defines the precious metals “Gold, silver, and platinum.”
Brockhaus’ Conversatione Lexikon defines the precious metals, as follows: “Precious metals in the chemical sense are those metals which are not corroded by oxygen or water, and which may be fused from its combinations with oxygen by heat alone. Among these metals those which have served for the material of money from the beginning of our civilization, viz.; gold and silver, have a special politico-economic meaning.”
Everything considered, perhaps a modification of Little’s definition would give a satisfactory one in your standard dictionary, thus: “Precious metals” Usually gold and silver; sometimes made to include platinum.
     Respectfully yours,
    R. E. Preston,
    Director of the Mint.

Started with the 2020 awards like Mike said (which were sent in early 2021). The 2020 awards came with a S-mint Morgan from the 1880s in MS64. The 2021 awards had a 2021 American Silver Eagle in MS69 (IIRC, haven't looked at it recently but I don't think it was an MS70). And now the 2022 awards had a Common-Date Peace Dollar in MS64.

The joy is in the research and the reading, the sharing of a story, and cuddling up in bed and looking at coins with my wife to pick the best one. When a set wins after that it is very nice though.
