Not a major accomplishment compared to some of the awe-inspiring registry sets, but I'm quite pleased to have taken a Best in Category award for this year.  Not bad for just learning about the registry this past autumn!

This was also my 3rd - 2nd in 2 years but the first one was 11 years ago now, which is crazy to think about in it's own way. 

I think getting 1 is pretty prestigious... 🤣 It might be worth looking into what % of the user base even has 1.

In the history of the awards I think NGC has only awarded about 600 major awards and a lot of those are concentrated with several of us having more than one and a small elite few like Gary having ~10. So I think it's only in the range of 200-300 users (out of ~13,000) that have one of the Major awards. Granted, most of that 13,000 has few coins and may not even have eligible sets, but it's still a small percentage.

I have won TEN times, over the years, but haven't won an award since the end of 2019.  

Luckily, I still have two sets in the top three.  

The competition is FIERCE, these days, and there are some remarkably GREAT sets out there!!!

I was browsing and did not realize that I had Best in category wins 86 times over the years. Mostly for the same stuff.

But it is modern stuff. I want to get my gold set and my GSA sets up there, but that is going to take $$$$$.

I was confused as to how I could have 86 best awards in the years since I had the sets. I had not had the sets that long.

I went searching and saw that they have each set listed twice each year. One is just "Best in Category", and one is listed as "NGC Best in category".

Why are they listed twice?

Example:  The set below show top set 26 times, but no way, since they were made in 2006.

‘Best in category’ award for a set is calculated based on highest point scores from coin entries of both PCGS AND NGC coins.  

‘NGC best in category’ is based on the highest score calculated only from NGC graded coin entries.  

So each set can, conceivably, win two different best in categories for each year.

It happened to me, once, too.

The joy is in the research and the reading, the sharing of a story, and cuddling up in bed and looking at coins with my wife to pick the best one. When a set wins after that it is very nice though.
