  1. I agree and intentionally avoid 70s because of that and the ridiculous prices some will pay/ask for those when there is barely any difference with somewhat lower grades which I think is hands down a better value, but to each his own.
  2. That is a pretty obscure coin, and I would usually go to UCoin.net, but alas they only have average pricing for the proof coins ... 300 ngultrums 1992 - Solar System, Bhutan - Coin value - uCoin.net If eBay doesn't have any historical sold listings (not current asking prices), you may need to find a current edition of the Standard Catalog of World Coins thru 2000. My edition only has coins through 1900, but does seem to have the coins under the following intro ...
  3. Which coin are you interested in purchasing?
  4. Very nice coins Lem. I like the toning! That nickel will be a nice add to the set and you are going to grab that #3 spot in no time.
  5. All of the 3 LCS's around me have higher prices for common date Saints than Apmex. But I am keeping my eyes open and maybe a few will fall in my lap at 10% over spot or for around $1,750 to $1,800 (with a weight a little under an ounce). You never know. When you see them for 10% over spot let me know.
  6. While I left my crystal ball at home, I wouldn't be so sure of that. With domestic energy production stomped on and inflationary handouts/spending galore continuing to mess things up, the Fed is going to be left with trying to grapple with inflation using just rate hikes alone which the market hates. I just don't see the current admin course correcting. And they say they don't watch or seem to care about the markets. So, I think that precipitous drop will be in the market (which has as a result of things already been taking a general beating lately), with real estate also taking it on the chin because of high rates. And then what will people do with all that cash taken out of the market? Leave it in savings accounts or short-term bonds losing money? Or take a shot at something else that is tangible and can't just go poof and disappear like crypto can in a heartbeat? Only time is the arbiter of the future. Well, that or the Great Carnac, but I think he's booked through January. 😉
  7. I will save the moderators some time and quote what I told you, which I stand by as accurate. And even though there were legitimate questions about the validity of the claims that this coin was some type of very rare planchet error, and you kept offering excuses as to why the XRF results were wrong and you couldn't do basic industry accepted SG tests (with published and accepted specific gravity values for the various coins/alloys produced by the mint readily available), you still posted the coin on the Coin Marketplace of this board for a ridiculous amount. Now that you have finally posted pics of the coin edge which do NOT show a solid silver edge all around as would be the case with a 40% Ag planchet (attached), it's obviously a normal Cu-Ni clad coin with no extra value where any testing would be pointless. I hope the moderators do remove that listing which is posted without valid industry tests to back up the claims for an uncertified raw coin. [At this point you have lost all credibility, at least with me, and I would need to see the verified TPG label with the error identified to believe you. So I am done with this thread and you.]
  8. He is trying to sell this coin as a rare struck on Ag clad planchet error for $9,100 on the Coin Marketplace of this board. This is despite being told pics (attached) show a normal Cu-Ni coin which was verified by XRF testing that he doesn't believe (hence the invalid junk science "egg test") and refuses to do simple SG tests to verify it is not a rare error coin and isn't worth submitting to a TPG because he knows what the results will be. It is baiting plain and simple, and imo that listing should be removed until he submits the coin to a TPG for attribution.
  9. I think we discussed this in the thread I started about $5 gold half eagles a while ago, but in all the years I have tracked and invested in gold bullion I have never seen them being sold around spot. Only bullion bars seem to go for a little above spot, and modern gold bullion coins (Eagles, Krugerrands, etc.) a little above that. But if there are any available around spot presently about $1,650 to $1,700 from a reputable dealer or auction house please let me know because I have been looking. 😉
  10. You have your answer even if you can't bring yourself to accept the results or verify them yourself by doing simple and accurate SG tests. Add more tin foil or go someone else!
  11. There are even more insidious ones where they knock off the NGC/PCGS holders with a legit bar code and then put a much lower grade legit coin or a counterfeit coin in the fake holder. Look at any slab and coin carefully, including the markers and grade.
  12. No, there was a significant price spike earlier this year for coins across the board, and particularly for gold coins like Saints due to the spot price spike which occurred around the same time. PCGS values went through the roof just based on the coin/bullion spike and have not come down to reality even though prices have dropped dramatically. NGC did not just knee-jerk price raise, and instead held off to see if it was just an unusual spike which it turns out it was. Like PCGS jacked up values for common date Saints to around $3,000 for an MS62 and unbelievably it's still at that level now. NGC values are still around $2,000 to 2,100 which is about what they have been going for at Great Collections and the present pricing for a random date Saint in BU or NGC MS62 at $1,950 to $2,000 through Apmex.
  13. There seem to be plenty around, but I haven't been able to get reasonable prices on those yet like I have with other years/marks. But prices on those are coming back to reality also like with the others, so it's only a matter of time and patience. [Btw, nice coins as usual and I like the subtle toning on the 51D.]
  14. You really do find some good deals JP. Can you find me some good deals on a few early date CC and later dated S mint mark Morgans I am struggling to find good deals on?
  15. Not true. The US Mint has very tight tolerances on planchets, and an Au clad coin has a very different SG than a Cu-Ni coin if you would have actually taken the time to look that up and check reputable sources for mint data like the Coin World Almanac. No, I think he is baiting.
  16. Yup, junk science like I suspected, without even measuring the SG which is simple [and doesnt damage the coin]. Good luck with that.
  17. Which peer reviewed industry accepted scientific journal was this "test" obtained from, and what were the metallurgical qualifications of the authors. Anything else is just worthless home brewed junk science you could get from a 3 sec YT search [and not a substitute for industry accepted SG and other tests]. And who is going to just take someone's word based on junk science that it's a rare error and spend that kind of money without a cert from one of the big boys. And if it was a legit error the coin is probably impaired now which may not even be able to be conserved. Sorry, I have to call um like I see it.
  18. The Chinese have been knocking off both the coins and holders, which are not sealed and contain a cardboard insert ... https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/counterfeit-1881-cc-dollar-appears-in-fabrica.html You would either get a counterfeit, garbage or nothing. Buyer beware!
  19. I have purchased a bunch of bars/coins from them in the past, as well as the other larger online dealer I trust Apmex, without any issues. Good luck with your bids.
  20. Consider gold bullion bars which typically have less of a premium over spot than coins, and some of the minted bars can actually look decent. I have purchased both when spot prices seemed low, and only added the coins since I could get then in BU grade for only a little more and liked the way they looked.
  21. You couldn't even get an 1895-S PR-01 for that.
  22. I saw the attached 1895-S which I think is close to a PCGS F-12 from CoinFacts, but maybe with a touch more wear like at the eagle's head and wings. Didn't look like enough to downgrade it to a VG-10 but wanted to get some feedback.
  23. "Blast White" can also be a reference to a very shiny and flashy older silver coin, like Morgans. Usually a dipped coin that typically looks whitewashed to me, but to each his own.
  24. The attached may help to verify what appears to be machine or "shelf" doubling, and see the following site for additional info on the 1944 Merc Dime DDOs ... DDOs 1944 (varietyvista.com).
