A very damaged coin can be difficult or impossible to identify and authenticate.   9. Hello @theGr8Alexander, thank you for contacting NGC. Prooflike and Deep Prooflike designations were expanded to all US and World coins that merit them in 2003. While I cannot share specifics of our proprietary grading processes, I can share some general information about these designations. When a circulation issue coin’s fields exhibit a higher-than-normal degree of reflectivity, the coin is said to be “Prooflike” (or “PL”) because it is reminiscent of a Proof coin. If the fields are deeply mirrored, the coin is said to be “Deep Prooflike” (or “DPL”). NGC uses the PL or DPL modifiers after an MS coin’s numeric grade, when applicable. These designations indicate only the degree of reflectivity evident in a coin’s fields and make no implication as to other qualities associated with Proof coins, such as frosted devices and superior sharpness. NGC's definition of "tooled" refers to either the smoothing of a coin’s fields to remove scratches, corrosion and other forms of damage or to the restoration of lost details through the use of a graver or knife. As you mentioned, the definition doesn't necessarily mean that the intention was to be deceptive in any way from what our graders were able to tell.   12. Hello @SPedigo, thank you for contacting NGC. When you go to make a submission, the price on the online submission form will not factor in the credit you've received. We do not charge you until your submission gets to us in-house, where we will apply your credit and charge you for the remaining difference. So there's nothing you need to do on your side, the credit will be automatically applied to the order once we go to take the payment. I did check your account as well, and confirmed I see that your credit is available for us until 06/25/23. Please let us know if you need help with anything else!
  13. Hello @Mark46, thank you for contacting NGC. We do not have any bias when grading PCGS coins, we grade them as best as we can while they are in the PCGS holder. My only thought on this is that our graders may be weary or cautious of cracking out coins we're not completely confident will cross based on what they can see of the coin while it's in a PCGS slab. Again this is speculation on my part, but the long and short of it is that we treat every coin the same. Plus, we'd love to put your coin in an NGC holder if possible! We're sorry for the frustrations you've been experiencing, hopefully, the next few CrossOver coins you submit will go a bit better. Please kindly let us know if we can help with anything further.

While that looks like a really neat coin, unfortunately, we cannot verify authenticity via photos or email, so you would need to kindly send the coin in if you'd like to confirm that the coin is genuine. Additionally, NGC can't really advise you on if your coins are worth sending in for grading. That is up to the individual and why you want them graded. Some people have them graded with the intent just to sell the coins. Others have them graded just because they want to protect them in the holder and don't really have any interest in selling them or the value of the coin. If your intent is to sell them, then you'd want to compare the cost of joining and getting the coin graded versus what you could get for the coin raw. You'd have to either check online to get an idea of what that type of coin sells for or have them appraised by a currency dealer.   20. Hi @Dascher, your assumption is correct. NGC currently generally only attributes varieties listed in Variety Plus. This may have been a one-off or even possibly an error in our census since the details census does not show the variety. https://www.ngccoin.com/details-census/world/switzerland-confederation/sc-301/20r/ Ultimately, it would be up to the graders to determine if it is something they are able to attribute as a variety.   22. Hello @marr420, thank you for contacting NGC. I just checked the grading screen now, and it does appear that this coin is not considered a mint error. Kindly keep in mind that NGC does not recognize as mint error coins those with minor die chips, breaks and rotations, etc., that fall within our interpretation of mint tolerance. Although I cannot comment on why your coin did not receive the error designation directly, I can assure you that all coins are reviewed by multiple professionals to ensure the most accurate grade is given.   23. Hello @Denny Crane, thank you for contacting NGC. I had to check with one of our graders on this, and they said that the planchet was cut down after the strike, which means that someone else damaged the coin after the mint made it and cut it down - this is the reason why it was not encapsulated. Additionally, this is a US coin but it was struck on a foreign planchet - this was only notated on the label for your records. Hopefully, this makes sense! Thank you!

Without knowing the exact set, it's a little hard to advise, so I would recommend taking a look at the article HERE to confirm what is required of your set to be designated as such. Most sets require you to ship in its mint packaging to be eligible for the set designation, so I would advise leaving your coins in their capsules (there is no additional cost for this). There is no cost to remove your coins from the mint packaging or capsules, however, there is a $5.00 fee for us to return your mint packaging to you if you'd like. As for basic information on how to submit with us, you may find the information below: To submit coins in for grading, you'll need to become a paid member of Collector's Society through Join NGC Today | NGC (ngccoin.com). You can find more information on how to start submitting coins online at How to Submit. You’ll need to have a general idea of the value of each coin to help select which grading “tier” or category to submit the coin under. Grading tiers and fees can be found at Services and Fees | Coin Submissions | NGC (ngccoin.com).In this case, you'll need to determine the value of one of your set coins to figure out the tier it falls under.
