I have used the op photo to show the three feathers.   My understanding is that in some years and with some dies when the dies were lapped to remove die clashes the small third feather detail would be lost and thus you would only see two feathers.   This is not a big thing for me but there are some collectors that have begun to collect these and were able to get the TPG's to call these varieties.   Because these are not something that I collect or look for I do not know all the PUP's (pick up points) used to identify the known/recognized varieties, as I said some two feather varieties will still have some of the third feather visible but can be attributed as a two feather from the PUPs.

Thank you and untill today i wasnt aware of the third feather. I always thought it to be part of his (indian) braid on the other side of his head. Guess now i know its a feather and that if its missing then i have a variety that some one may be looking for. Glad to have seen this post and thank you for explaining it to me.

I'm not that familiar with 2 feather varieties but I can clearly see the third feather.   Having said that I have seen coins called 2 feather when the third is visible if the correct markers are there.

Coinbuf where is the third feather you see? Ive never heard of this 2 feather variety and ive got a '36 that's AU/MS id guess. Anyhow it looks exactly like this one as does another im looking at from 29.

You will pay up for them. I recently acquired a VG-10 1893-S in a collection I purchased and it’s a $3000-$3200 coin.   It’s the show stopper for some Morgan guys.

I've got an 1882-O and a 1884-p. Had a 1878-cc i recently sold and later found out its a counterfeit. Bought from coin dealer in houston to resell got it cheap now i know why. But was in a sealed holder i never removed it didn't think i needed to. Well thats first thing the guy i sold it to did and it was 2g lite. So im way outta pocket on that one.So yeah im not a morgan fan. The two from the 80s i bought just to have the silver to put up but really nice coins. All the same

Spent a few minutes looking at shopgoodwill and what can I say.   They have coins and all kinda coins. The things I learn from this forum. Thanks 🤓🙀

Yes sir..i was very surprised But And i mean but watch it they will nail you to the wall on  shipping. Reason being is that not everything is in one location so when bidding i try to make sure everything comes from the same place or at least two different places. Say you win ten lots at ten locations then they hit you for 15 bucks shipping for each lot. I know this because i learned the hard way.

It went for that because it’s the top pop (1/1) for the key date in the series. There is 1 MS66 from NGC and for PCGS the next closest are 5 MS65. So this is 1/1 with little even close.

Ok im not a big morgan fan really. Dont get me wrong i have a few and there nice coins im just not into em like i'am cents. Therefore i didnt know this was a key rare coin in high grades. Thank you for the info though now when im bidding at auctions i know something else to be on the look out for is 1893s worthy of highest grades. Not likely to come across one but stranger s#;+ has happened.

Check about 5:30 near the rim on your first picture. That little "R" means it's a reproduction.

Thats a heck of an you got there... I never seen it till you pointed that out...o well live and learn. I knew i was taken a chance getting it but wont make that mistake again

They definitely look nice, for sure.  I like them!! But I definitely doubt they'd work as well for ancients with the uneven rims and everything that they have.  As for your ancients, have you posted pics up here?  Maybe we can help you with them.  I only know Roman myself, but other members here to know Greek and Byzantine as well.....it might be worth a shot!

Ill post em just gotta find my calibers and scale. Not sure where either one is. Thats why ive not posted them yet

Those capsules are quite nice.....but they wouldn't work well for ancients.  There is too much variance in diameter and thickness among coins of the same denomination with ancients, so something that finely tuned for coins all of virtually identical sizes wouldn't work for my collection.  Sometimes, I wish it would....but I do like my little stockbooks, so it's alright that they don't.  I can see how they'd be an appealing option in other collecting areas, though.

The one i have are universal and hold any coin up to 30mm. But can be order to hold up 48mm i believe. They incorporate a foam gasket to make it possible. The reason i like em is cause there universal and only need one size fit all. Rather than ordering several different sizes of 2x2. But i dont know alot about ancients i have a few i need to identify but dont know where to find the info to do so and im not gonna clean em to be able to see the detail. Probably just sell em on ebay as is and see if they bring anything.

I hate to say it JAnsley, but it definitely looks like a cast fake to me.  There are a lot of those for this particular issue floating around.  I'd say at this point, there are likely more fakes of this coin than genuine examples in existence.  But at $40, it could have been worse.  I've known people who paid a lot higher rate of numismatic tuition learning in this hobby.  And fakes can happen to any of us.  About a decade ago, I bought a very convincing fake of a rare Ottoman gold 100 Kurush.....that one was a major ouch!!! I ended up getting gold melt out of it and that was all.....so, I lost a lot more than $40!!! It happens.  Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back in the game!

This is the second time its happened. First time it happened was with a morgan dollar and i didn't know it till i sold it last week on ebay. It came in a sealed holder from a dealer in Houston so i thought it was legit. Well guy sold it to took it outta the holder and weighted it. It was 2g lite so im having to refund him plus be out what i payed fo it since he removed it from holder the dealer wont make it good. So i got screwed twice with that dang morgan..

Remember that it is possible to have both MD and an RPM together; so while it does somewhat resemble RPM-015 the placement of the MM does not look correct from your photo in the op.   In your photo the MM looks tilted and closer to the 9 and 5; and on VV it looks flat and slightly lower.   However that photo was taken with the coin in the 2X2 and the plastic window may be altering the way it looks in the photo.   Also due to the glare in the photo I cannot confirm if there are the die scratches pup to match up with RPM-015.   Knowing that there is MD for sure and not being able to line up the MM position from your photo or confirm the die line pup I'm still going with just MD; but you have the coin in hand so its your call.

I will post pics of it out of the 2x2 so that they are more clear and you can get a better look. I have really bad eyes so its hard for me the see the die markers to tell anything for sure. That is if you dont mind taken a look at it for me if i get you the better photos

I've seen other similar tokens on the various forums before identified as Pachinko tokens.  Pachinko machines are a Japanese gambling machine that work kind of like a vertical pinball machine that uses ball bearings  For a token operated machine you would buy the tokens from the arcade proprietor and put them in the machine.  Each token would be worth a given number of balls.  You then play the game and there is the possibility of winning more balls.  When you decide you are done you empty out the balls and and are paid off for the number of balls you turn in.  If you turn in more balls than the tokens purchased you win. Here a youtube video that shows the operation of a Star wars Pachinko machine with and explanation of how the gambling system works.

Pachinko parlors are apparently very popular in Japan, I would assume that most parlors have their own tokens but size seems to be pretty much standard and tokens from one parlor would work at others.  Similar to video arcade tokens here in the US.

Conder thanks for sharing the video that's that's pretty neat it's interesting I've never heard of that.

I wouldn't get my hopes up, it has all the looks of a cast copy.  Definitely post better pictures when you have it in hand.

I've all but come to the conclusion that it's a counterfeit or a reproduction but here's the photos and I'll get y'all's opinions on it thanks. I was really think id found something too but since this coins is not the real deal i wasted 40 bucks on a bunch of junk.O well live and learn
