The good old machine doubling always tricks my eyes when looking at a tiny mint mark

Jason thank you very much for that photo that helps my understanding of machine doubling versus hub doubling for sure. Now i just gotta get my understanding of RPM versus nothing really there down

  2. When id ask my question i should of illustrated it i reckon. Black arrow in attached photo is not what i was ask about i know that is nothing. The white arrows is what i was basing my question on. So its not rpm i get that but what it that the red arrow is pointing to?? Is it just partly grease filled die or im i just seeing stuff thats not even there??

  3. Im by no way shap form or fashion the wise thats why i post what i do. Ridiculous as some of it may seem I don't know a whole lot about it. So i ask and thats how i learn. I can look all day long online for answers and never get them since i joined this form I've learned about many coins and even a token i searched for off and on a couple years for took Conder all of a few minutes to tell me what it was. Just amazing the vast amounts of knowledge thats is here!!

Welcome and you have received some good advice. Not full bands middle and bottom problematic. Obverse looks like maybe some scrubbing scratches from a previous cleaning. What is very cool is unexpected catch 🎣. Your fishin for crappy and hooked a bass. You also got a bonus cent (picture?). That’s living large. I compare it to finding silver coins in the coin star coin return 🤓 but that’s another story. Thanks James

Thanks and i found 12 Indian heads in the roll including this one the other 11 not so good

The idea of telling its authenticity from a blurry photo of only one side is almost comic.

I know really didnt expect any reply tonite. And im not sure what a real one looks like from any side. Most time the more seasoned veterans can spot a fake no matter what kinda photo it is. But come tomorrow ill have wait diameter photos of both sides thickness. I'm not sure if there's anything else if so please advise.

  6. This is just a screen shot. As i dont have the coin in my possession just yet. Should have it tomorrow afternoon and will post better photos of both sides then. But from what i have now can anyone tell if it is the real deal or a fake? I got it through a bulk coin and token lot auction i won through either goodwill or ebay i dont recall which now. Anyhow as i look through the pile of coins i noticed this one and i know i need the other side to know which one it is but either way i knew it was rare coin so long as its real.. Just dont know enough about em.

You're welcome JAnsley!!! In looking at your new photos, I think your dime has environmental damage on the obverse.  The reverse is quite nice, though.  Still, definitely a good find in an eBay Wheat Cent roll!!

I wasnt sure if it was environmental or toning and I've got the coin in front of me...iam glad you can tell cause i was just gonna call it toned dark and try see if can sell it. But being that someone with more knowledge on the matter says environmental then id rather just keep it than jerk some one around just to make a buck. Plus it wont take up much room in my safe with the others so just as well keep it.

Thanks again guys great help as ALWAYS

It pays for your $10 or more. I can’t tell from the pics if the obverse is just darkly toned or if it has some environmental damage. Middle bands on fasces and bottom band nick would exclude full bands designations. Definitely a nice find in a penny roll any day. If you can get a little clearer picture we can tell you more on grade.

I'll see if i can get better photos and will post them shortly. And i didn't even see the nick on bottom band. Good catch

    http://www.varietyvista.com/02b LC RPMs Vol 2/RPMs 1959D.htm

I thought it maybe was rpm knowing there are a few know for the year.  i wasn't sure though because i have trouble telling the difference between RPM & double die compared to machine double. Just want see really if any one more experienced than I seen the same thing. Thank you for taking the time to look and answer. Also for the link as well im check it out in a second.

As far as I know a 1971 Lincoln Cent OMM does not exist.  Most likely they are die chips that may resemble something that you think you are seeing. Lincoln Cent OMM are far and few between and nothing I am aware of from the 1970's.

    GBrad

Thank you for the response. Id never heard of one from 70's either that's why got excited for a sec but im sure your correct it probably a die chip or just my bad vision.

    Thanks jeff

Don’t be in a hurry to do everything at once. Enjoy the process. When you’re old and gray, it’ll be the joys of the process that you’ll treasure.
