  1. I was wondering why they are so toned did you buy them like that ?
  2. Yes maybe Mr. D.W. Lange From NGC or Mark Feld from Heritage will see this thread and give it a look see. There are a few other regulars here that may have a guess also. It is a cool looking coin no matter what the outcome.
  3. Yes it is GBrad it came out of the press like that or the chip came out not long after. I am not sure what it would be worth ? Errors are a strange thing to grade It would take someone with a lot more experience than me to take a guess on what that penny would be worth or where to sell it ? Maybe a coin for Heritage to look at. .
  4. They did not start putting the 1965 sets together until 1966 it is said. So did they restart the 1965 presses and make new coins of all denominations in 1966 or did they go in the back room and grab the better looking coins sitting in storage and start making poly wrap sets up???
  5. I know we have all heard of it but I can believe I found it in a bank roll of pennies, What luck I am going to have to send this one in for sure. Or maybe that guy in Washington can ask 55,000 for his penny what would this be worth on the WEB it is in way better shape than his.
  6. You know what would be funny is if this guy is a collector like us and is tired of all the junk being sold on-line and is doing this as a spoof also.................
  7. This is normal. If we weren't so darn fussy we sure wouldn't be coin collectors
  8. Found this nice Peace Medal Nickel in a roll today. I don't find these to often.
  9. I'm no expert 1870 brown may be worth a few bucks. It looks a bit worn on one side hard to tell from the pictures I would hang on to it .
  10. Ya Woods I know my set is better than a BS strike but not by much. All the sets I have of years before are much nicer strikes. I think the mint was just trying to cover there butt with the 65 sets and made up for it in the 66 and 67 strikes( Just My Opinion ) The Redbook write-up is a little different than PCGS but does say the SMS coins were polished dies but they let the coins hit each other so that's why they have bag marks.. ??.. Well that's kinda counter productive... sounds like a song and dance. Who knows ? only the ones who were there working at the mint really know for sure
  11. Well I gave the old girl a bath in some soapy hot water for a while she is a little cleaner but not good enough to take her to the prom dance. Maybe a movie where it is a little darker.
  12. But going back to the OP I would think you will get a 65 66 a 67 or 68 may be pushing the limit. But it would be cool but then it would be worth a lot of money.
  13. That would be a DCAM Proof Best guess... Nice coin by the way but a SMS is a business strike put together in 1966 at the mint for us fussy collectors that kept complaining a lot after they took our coin sets away after 1964 . The only thing I can see that makes it special is the blue poker chip the coins are nice but not proof like they don't even have FS Nickels or FT dimes they are just coins in plastic wrap with a piece of paper saying Special Mint Set.
  14. Once it is removed I feel it is no longer part of a set. It becomes a MS coin How do you prove it is from a Mint set once it is removed there are no mint marks on the coins.
  15. Ya Woods they are definitely cruddy they may get a bath seeing they are not worth a whole lot of money anyway. Yes RWB I did get them from the grab box LoL..They were cheep a few bucks a piece and if I break even or loose it's short money. I check Grab boxes all the time. Whenever I get the chance to get a first year and a last year in a series I will pick them up. After that who knows what will happen .. My first ASE was a 1986 and a 2021 now I have all of them, Silly me...
  16. Ya James ..I think the obverse on the 1912 makes it a 6 and the 1883 a 15 with the dings in it I am thinking.
  17. Yes I agree ...I love reading Quintus's posts sometimes they make me kick back and ............SAY WHAT.......
  18. I think it would only be a SMS if it was still in the 1965 SMS mint set ?
  19. So I picked up two Liberty Nickels today or V nickels we used to call them. The first year (No CENTS) 1883 and the last year 1912 I would please ask for some opinions on what grade you all would think they may be? Don't be shy I want honest T not sweet T I am looking maybe a 15 - 25 for the 1883 and a 6 - 10 for the 1912
  20. Holy shmoly GBrad you sound like Quintus
