The US Mint has the opportunity to do a lot of cool things but they don’t. I would like to see something along the lines of a multi year reissue of the 7070 type set coins in the original composition, size and design. Give me that 1804 dollar on a nice silver planchet like it was intended. Reissue a 3 cent silver or a half dime in the correct size. Once I saw it was going to be released as a gold coin I became disinterested. I like gold coins but I would rather see a flying eagle cent in bright red copper than on a gold blank. Throw out a couple different designs per year. Collab with Dansco and have them make a new album for this or something. There are things the mint could do that would be interesting to collectors. A reissue of a commem from 2017 or another gold Kennedy or god forbid more Morgan and peace dollars in my opinion is not it. At a minimum, do something you haven’t already done.

I have seen this coin before. When I bid on a coin I look it up before the bid. A few times I have found . Half's and Morgan's on the reverse

Yea I thought you would be able to nominate anything and not have to pick from a list. I also wish they would do a re-issue of the coin as it was and not a gold coin unless it was a gold coin to start with.

Then I could only guess there is a Morgan obverse image paired to a proof nickel reverse somewhere else out there.

I shall provide my opinion as an opinionated answer to your question. From my point of view on this, from the TPG's standpoint, once that slab has been broken apart, the label no longer applies as far as the NGC guarantee goes. The coin is guaranteed genuine and certified with that grade by the graders at the time it was put into the slab and sealed. Once cracked out, as far as the TPG is concerned, the coin would have to be regraded.
As far as notifying the respective TPG that the slab no longer exists, in a perfect world, everyone would do this and the census figures would be 100% accurate. But we know we do not live in a perfect world. The census figures, while maybe not being 100% accurate, are to me an indicator however of all things typical or average : average graded values, average amounts of a particular coin and type floating around in the wild. I use those numbers to get an idea of how difficult it might be to get a certain grade for a certain coin, by the total amount being submitted, and the grade having the highest amount of graded examples. If coin X shows 238 graded at MS 62, 589 at MS 63, 341 at MS 64, 112 at MS 65, 32 at MS 66, and 1 at MS 67, it tells me when I look for coin X raw and find it in MS state, it is most likely to be a 63 or 64 and I should examine it for that range and start preparing myself to pay a commensurate amount. It also tells me when the seller Joe Bob who has coin X that I am interested in is asking to get the price at 66, that I will be more inclined to walk away faster upon examination of it.

Here is the other one. 1943 P/P VP-007 / CONECA RPM-004. One of the many RPMs for the Philly 5 cent coins of 43. Repunched northeast of the first punch. This is the 2nd P/P example in my collection with the other being the VP-008.

Picked up another couple of RPMs for the collection. The first one is this 1942 S/S VP-004 / CONECA RPM-004. The repunch went north leaving just a little of the first impression peeking out of the bottom. The image from variety plus also shows the die crack. There has to be some without it too out there.

Obviously I do not feel the ethical obligation. In my defense, I do consider this a type of documentation for my set and have kept every label. I’m sure most of them just end up in the trash.

This one arrived today. The original intent was to crack this piece out for the Dansco album but the holder is in such nice condition that I can’t bring myself to crack it out. I might have to find a different piece for the Dansco.

Sent the seller a fairly low offer not thinking I would get it but I did. You never know unless you try right? Looks clean. Seller pics.

I thought you to be pretty hardcore with the nickels @Lem E. I say that in a way as nothing but a high compliment, btw.

I am really enjoying this thread! How about a gold version of the 40 D with just a hint of purple around the edge.
