Some paint thinner is mineral spirits, which is not the same thing as acetone. Look for a can that says "Acetone" on the label.

Merely stating my preference of personal protection weapon in response to the post directly above it. I am aware that as a New Yorker, your experiences are vastly different from those in both states I will have lived in this year. Both are “shall issue” concealed carry states, both specifically ALLOW hollow point ammunition, and both have fully robust “stand your ground” laws, and not only of the “affirmative defense” variety, but the “D.A. doesn’t charge at all” type. I like states like mine, and wouldn’t live in NY if I was paid to.

If the acetone bath doesn't work and it really bothers you, you can always put it in a jar of olive oil and let it sit for a couple months and it might soften it enough for another acetone bath.

Back on the sauce? Did you bring any rabbit stew back with you??

An acetone bath will not hurt silver and will remove most organic substances. Remember that acetone is very flammable so use a glass container and use in a well ventilated area away from heat and flame.

Get a soft artist's brush (real sable, not fake) and dust it off. You might give it a bath in acetone. Nice EF-AU 3-cent silvers are inexpensive and oddly compelling - maybe it's their size.

Hoghead515 reacted to Voelker in 1954 Penny double die?
So, that makes it super rare and worth a billion dollars. Right?
-
Hoghead515 reacted to Just Bob in How, if any, do die clashes factor into grading?
I personally find die clashes very interesting, but I don't know if I would pay extra for one, unless it was really special looking.

My son added this coin to our collection. I have to make sure to give him credit in case he peeks in here. I thought he might have gotten me an early Christmas gift. But, no. This one may hang around for a while. Enough red to keep it interesting.

Yet another violation of my prior decision not to add George IV examples yet. To make matters worse I have another on the way!

I’ve been a “take no BS (or PC) from anybody” type of person since I was a kid. I’m an Eagles fan. Call it a cultural imperative. You know how Bear Bryant said linebackers had to be “hostile, agile, and mobile”? I was essentially born with the first third of a linebacker. Age has not mellowed me.
