  1. Such as this one. Their rollers wouldn't roll them down to the proper thickness. The strips would be either to thick or to thin on one side or another so they pulled them through a drawbench. It had fixed dies on it and they would hook one end of the strip up to a clamp and a chain would pull them between the dies and it would flatten it down to the final thickness. @RWB can tell you more about it. Here's one I own with drawbench marks in it.
  2. Some of those marks were caused when they pulled them through a drawbench to get the final thickness on the strips before they cut the planchets out.
  3. Already got it in hand. It came in yesterday. Those pictures I showed were ones I took of it.
  4. These coins are very easy to come by for the big players. People like me it takes 2 years to save up for one. I agree there are plenty out there. But for a poor man that only makes around 300 dollars a week and got 400 worth of bills it makes it a little harder. And everything you own tearing up and breaking down.
  5. She's a beauty. The W quarter search can be ruthless sometimes. It's a really good feeling soon as you find the first. Either in a roll or get it back as change. I got hook on the search for them.
  6. I would love to read them. I'll have to look into them.
  7. I sure will my good friend. I enjoy reading their input and putting it to good use.
  8. Thank you my friend. I'm very happy to get it. Been wanting one from the beginning.
  9. I'm gonna start stuffing my little rat hole again. Maybe save up for a trade dollar or something. I really love those. I also love some of the early coppers also. Would love to have a Connecticut or Vermont copper. Or any of the early coppers. I'd be happy with any. There so many coins I really like. I almost got a 3 cent silver in ms condition but I stopped myself. Had to tell myself that was for a GSA CC. That was the original plan and that's what I was gonna get. I really loved that 3 cent silver. Actually that may be my next 3 figure purchase I'm gonna save up for.
  10. That CC was one of my first 3 figure coins.
  11. Those are way out of my league. I can barely get the 2 figure coins.
  12. I'll have to check out Heritage. I've bought a few from GC at really good prices. 1/2 to a 1/3 the price as the same coins on Ebay.
  13. I just checked that out. They got some very nice stuff on there.
  14. The seller had this one priced for 395. Tax and all it ended up being 417 dollars.
  15. I seen a seller on EBAY just selling one of those cards only for over 300. Said card only. No coin or box. Cant remember if it was an 1893 or something. I know it was 1890 something. It was a rare date CC. Cant remember. I thought that was awfully high for just a card. It was the same kind of card pictured above that comes with the GSA boxes.
  16. I'll probably end up passing it down to my kids. It's hard telling how much it will be worth by time they get my age.
  17. My luck I'd scratch my head or something and end up owing them a million . Hopefully all this stuff clears up and they end up getting back to the live stuff.
  18. I'll have to check them out. Love listening to those auctioneers work their magic. When I was a kid we lived beside an auction house. It totally amazed me watching. They done it every Tuesday and Saturday night. You could hear them from our yard. I used to ride my bike over and watch.
  19. I love watching those GC auctions. I've bought a few off of them. Got a few decent coins at excellent prices. Got a couple where I was the only bidder.
  20. I'm plumb tickled right now. Like a little kid on Christmas morning. I made myself a promise I was gonna own one. I've been hiding money in a rat hole for 2 years and not touching it for nothing. And took a bit out of that stimulus check and got her. I really wanted to get an 1880 or one with a lower mintage but it would have been 3 more years of saving for one. So I figured I'd just go with a more common one.
  21. It's doing really good. We been doing some planning. Probably start working on the dies next weekend.
  22. Thank you my good friend. Whoever owned this before must have had it put up somewhere and never had it out. The packaging is in excellent shape. Was it 1972 when the hoard was discovered? The card has that date at the bottom.
  23. That's pretty neat. They go almost all the way around. That makes it even better.
  24. I've been saving some money back and not touching it for nothing. And finally with the stimulus check and what money I had saved I finally got one. Been dreaming of owning a CC ever since I started collecting. I really wanted one from the GSA hoard also. I had to settle for one of the more common date CCs but that's fine with me. I'm not picky. Whoever pre owned it took really good care of it. The box and card doesn't have a spot or crinkled corner or nothing. The holder doesn't have a scratch on it nowhere. It was all in mint condition. It is an 1883 ms64. My question is what are the lines of metal around the stars and letters? Kinda favors a die crack. It's on both sides of the coin. And goes most the distance around the coin. Hard to tell by my pics. You can really see it above STATES on the reverse. Whatever it is I'm still honored to own it. Been dreaming of owning one of these for a very long time. I'm so happy I finally got to add a CC GSA to the collection. Took me a little over 2 years but finally got her.
