A new beauty I bought today for the shop. I have to image it properly once it is in. In person it's a rainbow.

You haven’t submitted many coins in your life if you haven’t been disappointed atleast a few times.

So I have wanted a coin of this type for quite a while now, not a priority but one that I really did want. I find the no star seated dime design to be so clean, uncluttered, and simple, just an elegant presentation of the design. I was able to aquire this piece from a PCGS forum member on the BST ats, I think this is a very wholesome, unmolested coin with some a very original look to her. In addition this was the first year of operation for the New Orleans mint, which adds that little bit extra coolness factor for me. So here she is, an 1838 - O no stars seated dime, PCGS XF40. Photos courtesy of the seller, a bit lighter in hand then the photos suggest with a touch more color.

One of my personal favorite lines:
”These people who think they know everything really annoy those of us that do.”
It’s meant to be ironic, but on here, not s’much.

That was exactly what I was trying to make mister know it all understand. I have never seen it, and logically it shouldn’t be possible.

I can’t find the video I was thinking about. Here is a couple of pictures of them re-polishing a die to give you an idea.

Agree with Morgan man. A little too happy with the lapping tool. If you think about it, the devices are incuse on the die, and the the fields are higher. As they polish the die around the devices, which again are inset, if they don’t keep it completely level they start beveling the edge unintentionally.

There is a good video of the San Fran mint guys touching up dies. I’ll try and find it. It’s like a fancy dremel with different heads. Let me see if I can find it.

None, as far as I am aware. PL and “details” are incompatible.

Ok. You got me. I’m just a dumb state school kid with graduate degrees in economics and statistics. I should never have attempted to try and calm down the situation with adding and subtracting numbers to try and make you feel better. My apologies and I have rightly been put in my place.
Now will you explain what this PL means you keep talking about? What is the qualifier? How many prooflike coins with details have been graded? I’m learning a lot here.

I'm a CPA so I don't need much help with math. You say this isn't a rare coin but you have no idea if it will get the PL designation so your opinion is premature.

These folks are just one turn of the wheel from a multiple rollover crash at all times. And they don’t seem to care. On the plus side, I never see a Prius.
My driving distance to a F.U.N show is 615 miles. My driving distance to Rosemont is 615 miles. My driving distance to ANA Pittsburgh (2023) is 615 miles. Anyone wanting to sell me an EV had better design one with enough range, and no one has.

It’s going to take more than a dip, perhaps a nice long bath, to fix these hairlines. Not being critical or Debbie downer as you say, but I think what others are telling you is these are scratches in the coin. Metal has both moved and been removed. There isn’t a way to fix that. You can put it in your pocket every day for several years and it will have honest wear down to a much lower grade. That’s about the only option. Details aggressively cleaned or have honest wear down a few grades until the scratches are worn off. Not sure NCS will be able to help you.

Sorry to say these look like two well circulated quarters with some damage on the obverse worth face value only. The only thing to really note about these is that they are the first clad (no silver) quarters made.
