I admit I am blind half the time, but I just don’t see what you see. Are you saying “rounded doubling” to mean extra thickness in the letters? That can sometimes be indicative of a doubled die, but I don’t think it’s the case here.

What I see is a circulated coin. During circulation metal gets displaced, and raised devices start to flatten. The date and motto tend to get widened a little as circulation wears them down and metal is displaced.

Is that what you are seeing? I apologize if not. I’d like to help you but I don’t know exactly where the disconnect is yet. And again I could be missing something.

Excellent points, Coinbuf. However much we happen to enjoy this hobby, it is tiny, has a tiny market segment, and correspondingly minuscule ability to absorb new material. A handful of coins from certain date/mint combinations would crash the "value" of "rarities."

I have a feeling that this scenario could be played out in many locations throughout this country. I really believe that there are a lot more coins in the raw than most people realize. And I don't just mean common Morgans or Walking Liberties. The idea that all of the good coins have already been slabbed is way off base, in my opinion.

I just saw that name on a slab a few days ago. No idea who it is. The seller of this coin has several of the coins from this collection. Some are high $$$ coins.

Not sure where you're getting your info, but pics and descriptions of the 58DDO are easily accessable on Wexlers doubled die site, Variety Vista, Lincoln Cent Resource, PCGS CoinFacts, and Heritage Auction archives to name a few.  You can search these sites for pics.  It will be good practice and you'll become familiar some some very useful sites that will help you learn.  These are basic research sites that most variety collectors/seekers should have bookmarked.  Find and study them before you decide to be critical of the help this board provides.
You are sadly mistaken if you believe "If this coin came from a well know collector automatically it would be shown to be authentic...".  It has to have the characteristics of the variety.  Do you think people on here just guess on ID or authenticity?
If/when you compare your coin to pics of an authenticated example, you'll easily see yours aren't even close

I can buy them from BU down to VF. Or cull if you want. These aren’t original rolls which I don’t believe exist. They just buy a huge volume of silver dollars and gold. They will sell it to dealers individually or in rolls. But it’s just the quantity and in a tube, again not an original back roll. My point was that large quantities are readily available.

I’m at a show in Chattanooga TN this weekend, and picked up this beauty today. Nicest 09-S VDB I have ever owned for sure. Pay no attention to my quick cell phone snaps.

I can't get a very good pic of this coin, but... this one is GREAT in hand.  I will have to re-post this one if I can get good, clear shots.

Ray is who I bought my setup from. Great guy and he tries to get you going for the budget you want to spend. I am upgrading mine a little as I go but only because I’m taking a ton of pics these days. He can get you what you need in one of his packages.

I know this sounds like a "duh!" statement, but I never want to buy a bad coin.  I never assume I know more that anyone on this forum, as many of you have been collecting and dealing in coins since before I knew these coins existed.  When it comes to grading, many of you have a more skilled eye than I do, so I take opinions seriously.  I will have to take a very critical look at this coin, given the feedback.
I would like to thank @Coinbuf and the forum for the gut-checks and opinions.  Please, I encourage everyone to speak your mind on anything I post.  This is how I learn... and while I may not always agree with every post, the counter-arguments are always welcomed and considered.  I want to am going to build a "great" collection of coins, and having feedback and perspective from the veteran collectors is invaluable in assisting me in the identification, evaluation and acquisition of "great" coins.
    Thank you!

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.  This is something I am going to have to study more.  Being able to take great shots would make the hobby, registry and study more fun.  And, knowing numismatic photography will pay-off if/when it comes time to sell the collection.

There is not a section here that is dedicated to photography, however there have been some threads on the subject in recent years.   For my money Mark Goodman wrote the book on coin photography, literally.  The book   And a link to his site which has a ton of information about equipment and tips techniques.  Mark
Mark is the one I go to what I want really great photos, that is not to say that there are other great coin photographers, because there are like Joe, Bob, Tom, and Jeremy just to name a few.   But Mark has always delivered some fantastic shots for me over the years.
As to the equipment you can get some really great shots with just a cell phone and the right lighting and white balance settings on the phone.  80% of a great photo is in the lighting not the mega expensive camera/lens, and if you do a search there are some older threads with great tips on using cell phones.   And I can say that for around $500 Ray has a very solid setup that will produce some great results.  System 400   This photo was taken using the camera and lens from Ray's system that I just linked, not as good as what Mark or one of the pros can do but the photo is in sharp focus and very acceptable to me.
