  1. I have some coins I inherited myself. Those weren't going to be worth the cost to be graded by NGC or PCGS but because of the sentimental value to me I still sent some of them off for grading but to ANACS. They have occasional specials making it cheap enough to do with free return shipping. My preference is NGC (the majority of my coins) then PCGS but never ICG. Otherwise when I have a coin not worth grading at all I just put it in a Direct Fit Air-Tite and appreciate it that way. If by chance the photo isn't doing your coin justice and you're not getting the feedback on here you're looking for take it to a reputable coin dealer in your area who can see it in person and give their thoughts on any possible error.
  2. Great question. Another one is when will NGC start pricing their own certified world coins? If NGC is willing to accept them for grading and collect the fees for that then they should definitely be assigning a value in the Price Guide. It bothers me that I have NGC coins in the registry with no value.
  3. I'm ok with the P,D and S mints but not the "CC" and "O" Privy. They are fake mint marks. The P,D,S are still producing coins today.
  4. I had no interest in the 2021 ""CC" or "O" Morgan from the start and no intention of picking one up 2nd hand down the road. I just don't want a coin with what I refer to as a fake mint mark. I agree with all the other opinions on here as well. If anything, along with the recent uptick in silver this 2021 Morgan hype may have benefited me. I have an 1885-O Morgan in an NGC holder and while just an MS64 I see the price just spiked in the NGC price guide. I also have a GSA CC that hasn't been graded yet.
  5. Every so often I come across coins in a holders that do not have grades but say "Genuine" on the label instead. I saw this earlier today with a PCGS holder and I'm sure I saw it with a Stack's Bowers NCG slabbed coin. Do all 4 of the major grading companies do this and why? Is the person submitting the coin trying save money or is it done on "Details" coins so that there is no negative comment on the label?
  6. I was looking for the Buy-Sell Forum here. I thought I once came across but couldn't seem to find it or a link earlier today. Was going to look it over to consider that as well.
  7. From what I understand you can't buy these from the mint. Only thru the so called authorized distributors. I pre-ordered two MS-70 FDOI (an NGC for myself and a PCGS as a gift) back in November. Both were to ship out on Friday, 2/5 but the NGC shipped the week before on 1/27 and I have that now but the PCGS is still showing as "processing". I'm hoping to see a shipping tracking # sometime this week.
  8. That's good to know. I'm debating over selling an 1805 Draped Bust Half Cent and a 1917 Type-1 Standing Liberty Quarter. I've never sold on eBay before but tired of the scam inquiries on Craigslist and Offer Up.
  9. Has anyone sold coins on the site Great Collections? I'm curious to know if sellers typically do ok on it and if there's greater exposure to more serious buyers than on eBay.
  10. There is always risk to damage but also the other grading companies won't guarantee the grade. I did one of the "Dr G" and "Ben the Coin Geek" experiments and it cost me more than the fees and shipping. I lost both grades and values on 5 of 5 coins. Financially it didn't break me and to some degree it was for the entertainment but crushing as the outcome was far more disappointing than I prepared myself for. Steer clear of ICG or if you have ICG graded coins leave them be and enjoy as they are or sell as they are.
  11. Has anyone tried the "Reholder" service here? I know to have coins graded an upgraded membership is required. Just wondering though if anyone can submit an NGC graded coin for "Reholder" without being a paid member due to the existing holder having a crack and not requesting any other updated services.
  12. Does anyone know the current price range is that a dealer would pay to buy 1964 and earlier Washington silver quarters? Not graded collectible quarters but in rolls for the silver value?
  13. I see Littleton Coin Company has a box but not plastic that they claim fits various holders but that's not a company I prefer to go thru.
  14. While I prefer and mainly have all NGC slabs I do have some a couple of coins that were graded by PCGS, ANACS and ICG. Does anyone know of any single, plastic coin storage boxes that hold all four brands?
  15. All my graded coins I bought that way. When submitting them for grading, why do they send some back in bags? I can understand for counterfeit coins but what other reasons? Just curious as that day for sending some in could be coming soon.
  16. Great info. I'm going to look into these. Thank you!
  17. Is there a specific brand magnifying glass that is best for coins? I bought a jeweler's loupe magnifier that is actually disappointing and went back to a handheld that's been ok but I'd really like to find a good one that is great for coins.
  18. Same here I agree. I don't collect or hold any ASE. I collect the old stuff and only started following the ASE this year when there was all the hype. Saw an infomercial over the summer and one night I couldn't sleep and came across a sales pitch on HSN for the 2020-P. It was then I learned about the 2015-P so curiosity has me paying attention. I see them in coin ads and on Ebay at inconsistent prices and with the overall high ASE volume produced in total, I just want to see where the 2020-P is eventually priced.
  19. It was but I'm sure there will still be some type of difference in value on here between the 2020-P and 2020-W as there was with the 2015-P. No where near as high and probably minor as they were only 79,640 then vs. 240,000 this year. The US Mint updated the production totals on their website with December included and it shows the 2020 total for the ASE at 30,089,500 so there's a difference between the P and W. NGC will give the P a different value vs. the W as just they do for the First Day of Issue and Early Releases. At any rate, I'm not a collector of ASE. Just curious after seeing what they sold for on eBay and HSN . While the new reverse coming later in 2021 doesn't impress me, I wish the obverse was changing too. Such an tired look already. Should have left it in the past on the Walking half dollar
  20. I inherited some proof sets from the late 1960's. Out of curiosity and for the learning experience since I personally never submitted a coin for grading before I was going to crack open a duplicate set and send it for grading with other coins I have. I was told the cases for the proof sets could have possibly contained PVC. Does anyone know if that's definitely true or not? I understand some grading companies if not most will not grade and encapsulate a coin if contaminated...even if it's not obvious to the eye.
  21. Yes I noticed that in print and in PCGS's price guide too. I'm only seeing the 2015-P here.
  22. Always been told since the beginning of collecting and to this day, never clean your coins. Cleaning does nothing for the coin but strip value.
  23. I see where some of the 2020 Silver Eagle values are starting to show up here in the price guide. This question is for everybody and all. After seeing how the 2020-P Emergency Production version started selling when released and now on the secondary market, where do you think this will be valued at here in the price guide when initially listed? To keep it from getting too complicated, just the basic MS69 & MS70 Emergency Production standard label versions before any additional varieties that were offered?
  24. @ MarkFeld, I just came across an 1884 CC GSA at a flea market. It was like frost. No toning and the GSA slab immaculate but it was an 1884. It also wasn't graded and the seller wanted $250. From across his table I thought it was going to be MS65 or MS66 but after returning with glasses and a magnifying glass and using a graded 1885-O (MS64) for comparison I felt his CC was probably MS62 with the scratches it had. Maybe MS63 at best but I think MS62. Without being graded to know for certain and the seller not willing to move off $250...and being an 1884 I passed on it. Then looked up values and history that evening over the past 14 years where I saw not much of difference between now and March 2006.
