  1. I agree with VKurtB. I like the look of the 90% coins better. What I really don't like is the milk spots on the modern .999 silver coins. Sadly, they'll show up on some of these new Morgan and Peace dollars.
  2. I'm no expert as I only started collecting at the start of covid but will say this from the graded coins I have which include NGC, PCGS and ANACS. Aside from costs, brand name preference, and ability to sell later, I find the PCGS holders chip the easiest out of the three brands. There is just something about their plastic. I'm very picky about buying those. They have to be perfect for me because I'm not paying to have a coin reholdered. I also found American Silver Eagles tend to milk spot more in PCGS holders than NGC holders. Still in either of these two holders I feel I can sell my coins much easier if I wanted to. Coins I have that I knew were mid grade or lower but still nice little finds I went with ANACS on two submissions. It wouldn't have been worth it to pay the NGC or PCGS fees. Have to say I actually like the ANACS holders. I like that I can read the specs without having to take them out of my NGC boxes. Really like that. Initially was attracted to the ANACS holders but they have a great purpose with the top the way it is. So for me with taking cost out of the picture, NGC would be my first preference. Have to say the labels have the best eye appeal. PCGS has to work on that and their plastic that chips easy and shows wear on the rails.
  3. Better lighting, better angle and definitely cleaned.
  4. Here is a better photo of the 1944. It's the same coin but I placed it in an Air-Tite capsule since.
  5. NGC confirmed that the coin's Cert.# was actually graded in November 2020 and not last month like the dealer was insisting. The dealer lied. Sadly, I never asked the dealer when the coin was graded so he had no reason to lie. All credibility was lost right there with that guy and any potential business from me.
  6. Does Ebay let bidders off the hook or hold them to what they bid? I understand collecting $ from a buyer is one thing but Ebay should ban people like that. I can't remember when I signed up for Ebay but don't have clause in the User Agreement saying the auction is legally binding? I don't know, just asking.
  7. Those listing 2021 Morgans on Ebay for obscene amounts will need to collect their $ early because once Modern Coin Mart and APMEX start their "Pre-Sale" for MS69 and MS70 the cost will definitely be lower than what I saw last night.
  8. I saw them out on eBay. I'd be afraid to pay someone now for something not due to ship out from the US Mint until October.
  9. That is correct. Should have caught that before. I have a few originals but not really a Morgan collector otherwise. Just let the hype get the best of me.
  10. I wasn't going to buy one of the 2021 Morgans for several reasons but today decided to see if I could get an order in. I was expecting to get shut out immediately or find the website crashed. I did get a "Bad Gateway" error message but was still able to purchase two of the Morgan (D). It was something like 12-15 minutes after 12:00 though which surprised to me. I actually only tried to order 1 so don't know how they processed my order for two but I'll take the 2nd one. I chose the (D) mint for my 100th Anniversary pick because the 1921 was the only year Morgan that had a (D). At any rate, an overpriced coin in my opinion and disappointing that it's short of 90% silver.
  11. Were they US coins or Foreign? Just curious as with all my US coins the cert #'s seem to go in order and increased. The coin in question is a foreign coin so with your response I now wonder if foreign coins follow a different series of numbers or have specific prefixes.
  12. Does NGC recycle certification numbers? Is it possible that one starting with 2108XXX-XXX could have been issued by NGC only a month or so ago in June/July 2021? I have purchased NGC graded coins with Cert #'s higher than that back in 2020. I was looking at a coin and the dealer told me it's a brand new holder and just a month old. I have always been under the impression the Cert #'s keep going in order and the numbers only grow higher as time passes on. NGC or anyone please confirm as the dealer got mad at me for questioning him on that. Thanks!
  13. Ok that gives me better idea. Only recently I came across two coins listed online with that on their labels but nothing online about the degree to be considered. Thank you. Appreciate it!
  14. At what point is a coin considered misaligned to have "Rotated Die" on it's label? Are there specific specs, a guide or any official chart on this? I'm just curious as I have a 1942-S wartime nickel and of the coins I own it's the only one that's not aligned like all of my others. It's slight but again just curious to know more about this topic.
  15. Thanks! As for the penny, someone bleached it or something. Wasn't really expecting a '44 Steel but never saw a penny aside from one of those that wasn't either RD, BN or pink from cleaning. Maybe it took an acid bath.
  16. I never claimed to be an expert and that's not what my post is about. These detail grades are mostly on my buddy's coins. Any I had I sold off or traded as I don't like details on my coins even if a low/mid grade coin. Anyway, what I was getting at was that Morgans (MS62, MS63, MS64) seem to show more marks on the cheeks and rarely seem noted as scratches. Sure there are some that get details but in seeing what my buddy received as "Scratched" compared to the likes of low MS Morgans baffles me. Forget Morgans in typical TPG holders and instead lets look at graded CC Morgans in the GSA holders. Go to Great Collections or Ebay and look at the graded MS62-MS64 GSA's. Uncirculated or not, the cheeks and fields are loaded with scratches (or bag marks if you will). Why is something you have look for with a magnifying class on an 1805 Draped Bust half cent a scratch but something worse on a Morgan acceptable? Sure photos would help and when I can get some forwarded to me from my buddy I'll post add them.
  17. Go with this for a moment. Take a Flying Eagle, Two Cent, Draped Bust, Seated Liberty and then a Morgan and send them off for grading. Although impossible let's just say they all have the same exact marks or nicks on them. Why is it the marks on the Morgan are just seen as bag marks and typically straight graded but the other coins get Details: Scratched. I've gone in on grading with a buddy to share/cut costs by submitting enough coins to make it worth while and we now have tried all 4 grading companies. The Morgans always came back without details yet look the worst in terms of being marked up. The others don't always get a pass. I'm not talking wear like a VF or XF verses a MS63 so to speak and whether a coin has prominent features remaining or not but the marks that then go on the label as Details: Scratched. I have seen coins where by eye I can't see the scratch and have to break out a magnifying glass whereas the Morgans you can clearly see all marks pretty much just looking at them. The worst of all with this is ANACS. Is it nitpicking? Anything and everything is a scratch? Still and regardless unless cleaned, Morgans seem to get off the easiest when it comes to DETAILS: SCRATCHED.
  18. Is there a known timetable for the milk spots? Or do they typically show up very early on and if you had your ASE for a while and it's spotless it's most likely going to be safe and stay that way? For the premium charged on these and the varieties nothing is worse than having a coin being worth only the spot price.
  19. I myself don't really collect the ASE but did get a 2020-P and 2020-S. The 2020-S in the PCGS holder is just a major disappointment. Agree there are better coins to pick up and that's what I'll also go back to.
  20. That's where I originally started out. Will have to see if I have the ability to move this thread. Thanks!
  21. Copper pennies tend to turn pink when cleaned. At least from what I know. Can a copper penny be cleaned to the point where it looks silverish? I bought 5 wheat pennies today picking a box at a flea market and came across this 1944. It doesn't look red, brown, or pink to me but doesn't seem light enough to be a steel cent. I'd love to be wrong and don't have a local expert to run it by right now being the holiday weekend. Any and all feedback welcome.
  22. Is the milk spotting issue much more common on PCGS coins? I have never had the problem with any NGC certified coins (yet). I see in online auctions that many of the PCGS coins have this going on with the Silver Eagles.
  23. Thanks all! I just returned from looking at it. It was not even AG/3. It was P/1 and had to be a metal detector find. It had what looked like some kind of calcium build up on it or what you see on the old Civil War bullets. Definitely was cleaned and had no visible date. I think the owner was able to identify it as a Flying Eagle, looked up the values and is just calling it an 1856 to get the most out of it. Oh well, I had to look. Sometimes you get lucky...just not today.
  24. Does anyone know what the value is for an 1856 Flying Eagle cent that would probably just be graded AG/3? A value is not listed here at NGC or in the Red Book. I have an opportunity to pick this coin up. I'd rather have a nicer one but it is an 1856.
  25. Did the US Mint stick with the original production figure of 495,000 for the 2021-(P) American Silver Eagle Philadelphia Emergency Production T-1? I can't find any updates on that. I'm curious if they threw out one number to the public and then produced more like they did with the 2020-(S) coin.
