  1. Welcome to the forum @Lost in the Groove.  Good post and a very valid question you asked, thank you.  That's why the experienced members are here on this forum donating their time; we enjoy helping others answer worthy coin questions.  However, I think it is safe to say that we really enjoy and appreciate, even more so, when a new member is courteous, polite, and thankful as you have been regarding the given assistance of the professional numismatists here on the forum.  Good luck and happy hunting.

I agree, damage from the crimping machine when sealing the package.

It must have been too close to the edge when being sealed.

I can see where the coin was on the edge of the wrapper the waffle cellophane is messed up near the dime.

Like the PGA Tour commercial says, "These guys are good!!!!".  EXCELLENT observation there guys.  You'd both make good detectives!! 😁 I had to really zoom in to see that. I initially thought it appeared to be damage from the reeded edge of another coin, but NOPE!

I felt like being artistic today so here's my best drawing of the culprit as ya'll mentioned. 👍

the photos the line appears to be raised so a die gouge is very likely the culprit.

Yup, I concur Coinbuf.  I actually took some time and sent one of our forum member's pictures, being a similar type of issue on the reverse of their coin, to a well known numismatic individual.  It was of their professional opinion, in their reply to me, that the marks were simply a result of:  "semicircular die dents or die gouges of unknown origin."

No mintmark means it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. There is a 2006 'P' DDO variety with clear doubling in the beard, motto, LIBERTY, and date, but I don't see that on your coin. I also agree with the others, as I have seen many anomalies in the copper plating on these type cents.

Great info powermad!  The variety you mention is FS-102.  I just wanted to mention that this year Cent (also from the Philadelphia Mint) had another "major" doubled die obverse recognized by TPG's known as FS-101.  FS-101 was the doubled ear variety.  The DDO you mentioned is by far the better of the two recognized varieties and carries a significantly higher premium (2 to 3 times as much) in MS condition.  Just my two humble cents worth here. 👍

Also....There are numerous minor doubled die reverses for this year which are not TPG recognized. These DDR's all deal with fairly small variations of minor doubling on or around "little Lincoln" within the columns of the Memorial.  They are very minor and sometimes hard to detect, but they are out there and much more plentiful than the two major DDO varieties. Coppercoins.com has a great number of listings for the reverse doubled dies as well as quite a few other minor DDO's. Below is a screenshot of the two major DDO's we have mentioned complements of, and all rights to, Coppercoins.com. Hope this helps and Happy Hunting!!!!!

  5. I agree. Any tiny bumps, lumps, lines, or bubbles you are seeing on the reverse (or obverse as well) are a result of blistering to the microscopically thin copper plating on these horrid zinc cored Cents.  Every Cent since "mid" 1982, when the mint transitioned to zinc cored Cents, has suffered from a host of things which is too in-depth to cover in a comment.  Not an error or variety on this one.  Good luck.

If I can't get decent answers here I will ask elsewhere.

I think you got more decent answers here than most newcomers do.  You were given the 100% absolute truth about the question you asked, and, in very good detail!  If you are going to stay in this hobby, and participate on major coin forum chat boards, I would highly suggest you get a bit more thick skinned and lose your attitude, respectfully.  @powermad5000, @EagleRJO, @GoldFinger1969, @Coinbuf, @J P M, and finally @Sandon, who, by the way, are all long time collectors and experts in their respective fields, took their time to give you their honest opinion and the hard truth.  If you find another place to ask "elsewhere", and hope to get different answers, well...... best of luck.  As far as I can tell, your question was answered and you simply did not like it.  Good luck.

Here's a photo of one of my ASEs with my Galaxy S4 held by my hands:

Can you write a tutorial (and pin it) on how to take pictures like that by only holding your phone with your hands???? Good grief man...... you have some steady nerves. That's a good pic!!!👍

Edit: I never should have switched to an iPhone........ I loved my Samsung....

  8. I'm sorry (not really), but I often wonder why a member (a new member at that) fails to have the common courtesy of replying, to their own post, to the very helpful and insightful professional advice given by experts (of course, that is, unless there was an emergency or something of the such for the member). Especially after THREE days later from posting their question?  🤷 Demmit...... there I go thinking out-loud again...... sorry... (not really, again).

As an aside, it is not a good idea to hold collectable coins with your fingers touching the face, only hold by the edge.   It is not a big deal in this case as the coin has already been damaged, but the oils from our skin can etch the surfaces of coins and copper is especially reactive.

I WILL SECOND THIS COMMENT FROM COINBUF!!!!! 👍 (Not yelling by typing in all caps..... I'M SCREAMING!!!!) 😁

Welcome to the forum!!!! There's a tremendous amount of knowledge here at your disposal from our expert numismatic members.  I feel safe in saying there is easily a total of 500+ years of cumulative experience and knowledge on this chat board.  Good luck!

Well then it’s safe to show Alec Baldwin?

But he "didn't pull the trigger"...... Pfitttt...... Whatever....... Amazing what money can do.  Any of us "mere mortals" would be UNDER the ^& jail!!!!! Don't get me started on that one Kurt....... It's been proven physically impossible that the firearm used COULD NOT discharge on its own.  110% impossible!!! Ok.... back to coins now...... as a firearms advocate and instructor, that entire unfortunate event makes my blood boil.

No way a bullion dealer could buy gold at $2,050 at the highs in recent years and then try and sell it for that price (plus a markup) when gold fell back to $1,800-$1,900.

NOPE,, no way can they recoup! That's why I stick to the Georgia Lottery Online games. I really like to help the Georgia "HOPE fund"🙄, you know... that educational aspect they sell you on in order to make you feel better about losing. At least it makes me feel better about blowing my money.

Perhaps someone else may have a better answer.

Very well explained Greenstang.  I believe you hit the nail on the head in my humble opinion.  I can attest that I have found more 1998 and 2000 WAM's that I've lost count.  However, still looking for the 1999 WAM and of course, the holy grail '92 CAM.  My luck would probably be to find one ('92 CAM) in a parking lot that has been run over a gazillion times.  I'd still take it though!😁

I thought this one was completely "as struck" until I checked the specimens of this quarter in one of my own 2022 mint sets and realized that the name "NINA OTERO-WARREN" is incuse

Hence the reason I don't get into the newer quarters!!! I cannot remember what is incuse and what is raised on all of this umpteen new quarter designs over the last decade or so...... Bring back RAISED DEVICES U.S. MINT!!!!!!!  I'm done venting now.
