  1. I did not see this post initially. You are absolutely right! For example, among the so-called "restrikes," not a single example of the last year minted, 1914, has been accorded MS-67 status. If I were to get word one were available as graded by P- , from a reputable source, close examination is not necessary. I want to be a big shot like you with a pop 1/0 in my album, and a feather ðŸŠķ in my cap.
  2. P.S. And let's not forget the antics of the Hunt brothers in '79 or was it '80.
  3. @J P Mashoke I agree with you... to a point. Then again, if they originated from a mint set, you've done very well. (In fact, I have never seen an MS-60 assigned any coin in my entire life.) An interesting conglomeration whose flaws has me completely flummoxed.
  4. That may very well be true, but the rare exception in the furtherance of knowledge should be granted those whose life experience, impeccable credentials, irrrproachable virtue and sterling reputation in all things numismatic, make it all but illogical to deny a simple request. 🐓
  5. This is off-topic, and I am complicit in its continuity, but allow me to add the so-called Delta Variant has introduced another unknown variable to the pandemic. I predict, since no one vaccine fits all, that we should all continue to wear masks when in crowded quarters and consider the likelihood of booster shots. 🐓
  6. My friend, all we have is time and the best things in life are well worth waiting for. Besides, don't we all have an innate desire to find out how things turned out?
  7. [Let's see... CNG and U.K. Okay, tell you what, just get up once to keep the circulation going, and you have my blessing to take the flight. Fair enough?]
  8. @VKurtB May I respectfully recommend ma-shops, based in Germany, but comprised of a consortium of carefully vetted coin emporiums based in many other countries in Europe -- with one newly-opened outpost in the U.S. Some specialize in ancient and Renaissance coinage.
  9. I am 70, and I need to grow up? I don't know how many rings you have in your tree but having lived through many uneventful times, when ordering from the U.S. Mint was a simple routine affordable procedure, I believe you to be a sapling posing as a tree. There is no greater put-down than to dismiss those who simply wish to place an order on-line devoid of inconvenience and drama as simply never having wanted the product in the first place. As one of quite a few who have voluntarily elected to no longer do business with the Mint, I have no agenda. My only concern is if the hobby is lookinga for newcomers -- and keeping them, a slap in the face is not a recommended business model. Where's that Mint memo proclaiming to all four corners of the earth that the problem highlighted by the debacle attendant to the recent distribution of the first pair of '21 dollars had been identified and corrected?
  10. I am afraid I am going to have to fall in with @GoldFinger1969 on this one. It appears I am the most vocal of 40 active 🐓 collectors and maintain two set registries, a third small compilation consisting of examples that have been superseded and a few raw ones that would likely grade out in the lower MS-60's. I have a user name, my wife and I are 66 and 70 respectively, live in a high-crime neighborhood, and leave all my windows -- and front door unlocked. I am content.
  11. @Walkerfan I wonder whether they ever caught the guy who "borrowed" the rear denticles and substituted the letter I for the numeral 1... Nice catch! Beautiful coin! 🐓
  12. @VKurtB. I will permit the short hop to Chicago, but don't get any fancy ideas about going overseas, quarantine or not. 🐓
  13. [As an uncontested, all but certified troublemaker, I am going to take the extraordinary measure -- nothing personal now! -- of laying this matter squarely at member Cladking's doorstep, without further comment.]
  14. @asdfgh This rank amateur begs to differ. The rotation is significant enough as to come to any sober observer's notice. Aside: the steepest [unmarked] grade of any street in New York City has a 12% grade and from a distance looks like a rogue wave or tsunami. 🐓
  15. You kiddin' me? It's almost as old as you are (and doesn't have any travel restrictions).
  16. I believe this horse came in by a nose, or perhaps by a hair, as a Fine 🙂 as all legends are legible. I am, nevertheless curious as to why you want it. 🐓
  17. @Hinkle The misspelling is certainly interesting. We're there other "Famous Americans" depicted? How was the "Game" played? Do you, or anyone else recall?
  18. I can just picture cultured people oohing and aahing over this at an exhibition at the MOMA in NYC.
  19. At least there are some who still appreciate my sense of humor. 🐓
  20. To member Coinbuf's credit as a seasoned veteran with a top-tier compilation of Lincoln Head cents -- ranked #5 somewhere, last I checked, I would be inclined to take his words to heart. If you had a malfunctioning Cartier or Patek Philippe chronograph, you would take it to an authorized dealer. Coinbuf is the unofficial authorized dealer of this century-plus year old series and his opinion -- reworked by our stalwart RWB for bare-bones brevity -- should count for something. VKurtB's contribution to the discussion, a light sprinkling of exasperation should be regarded for what it is with no offense meant to anyone.
  21. @Hoghead515. All the more reason why I must apologize for introducing an inappropriate note of levity, yet again, on a serious Forum subject.
