  1. I have that problem when I buy “top pop” world coins since it’s top graded only 1 known coin at this time with highest grade ,how can someone put the price tag on it (there are no price guides for “top pop coins” ? There are no other coins to compare against it in that specific high grade or to determine a “ballpark” price ... there a saying in coin collecting world (if you like the coin so much ? And you want it the price shouldn’t bother you if you have money) but there is always room to haggle a price with a dealer or who ever you’re buying the coin from does price feel fair what you paid ? Does it feel like an honest asking price ? I can show you some dealers who price stuff right on “price” that NGC or PCGS listed on their website (I don’t call them dealers they are collectors just selling off their collection ebay is full of them) , I can show other dealers who mark stuff up sky high nobody buying from them (they don’t know how to conduct business) . Then we have dealers who are honest price coins fairly or just a tad below “retail” price and don’t mind haggling prices or accepting offers after all its your hard earn money doing business with them , they want to make a deal they don’t want to have put coin back in inventory collecting dust and cobwebs waiting for the next buyer those are dealers who stay in business the longest . As a collector I’m even open to haggling prices with other collectors when I’m selling or trading coins I don’t look online and “say look NGC priced this coin at $250 sorry I can’t go any lower than that” that’s wrong kind of business to do anyone treat you like that walk away from deal that best advice I can give you
  2. Sounds like a sad story Ronnie, I can almost feel your pain
  3. I remember reading newspaper back several years when Platinum skyrocketed guys were desperate sneaking and running around at night time in junk yards cutting catalytic converters from older vehicles . Now a days newer emission and catalytic converter are not built with platinum anymore from what I hear . So I don’t see what it will be used for in future. Medical world ? Electric world ? Rappers who need platinum teeth ?
  4. I agree palladium is winner above all right now it’s way to high for me to even consider investing into it.
  5. Anyone on here invest into platinum bullion coins ? What’s your thought on market as of right now ? What do you think future holds for platinum bullion I collect classic coinage for love of collection , I also buy bullion for financial gains in future (gold and silver) I keep my coin collecting separate from bullion buying. A good few years back I’d say 6-7 years ago if I remember correctly platinum was worth almost as much as gold was . But now it’s seems platinum is dirt cheap right now seems like time to start buying platinum but foreseeable future seems like a hit or miss with platinum probably better off investing into gold bullion
  6. I’m taking a break from collecting classic coinage and world coins , I finally kicked the bucket and started collecting the Modern $1 silver commemorative coins (1984-present) I’m trying to get a whole series put together all NGC graded MS69 and PF69 should take me a year or two ... I can find most of them for just a little over melt value +plus small premium average $30-$35 considering it cost a dealer at one time to submit coins for slabbing+price seems about right to me ... They ain’t everyone favorite coin I agree some year issues are an ugly design...
  7. I don’t believe the graders even spend time to look at a very large bulk loads of ASE coming in for grading imagine having look at 200-400 ASE every week from different large dealers sending in for bulk submission the graders’ eye vessels would literally pop ! I bet they take the whole box and pick out maybe 2 or 3 and say these one will get 70 grade the rest are 69s
  8. I have nothing against people who collect 70 graded coins , but when new person getting into the hobby . I often tell them if you want make money in future on modern bullion coins ? Buy them raw don’t pay high high premiums for graded modern bullion coins like ASE or AGE , Gold Buffalos ... Thats where the hobby took down fall I don’t believe bullion should be graded it’s precious metal meant to be used for hard times but only ones making a nice profit off bullion right now are dealers and people driving the market to buy the graded bullion see for your self buy some graded ASE take them back to dealer see what they pay you ? Barely spot price . the only coins that maybe worth collecting are bullion coins wise and expect a nice premium in future are with very low mintage , take libertads for example a lot years had very low mintage some are becoming very scarce on market prices are going up
  9. I always collected for the love of collecting ... the 69 to 70 grade seems like biggest scam to me on Modern coin market owning a 70 seems like an ego thing for registry sets ... take that MS70 or PF70 see if dealer buys it back at premium since it has a 70 grade you’ll be surprised not a lot dealers or any dealer that I know of will pay you a handsome fee buy back for a “common coin” that was mass produced in high numbers just cause it has a 70 grade ... but hey that’s way I see it , I stick with rarer world coins or buy raw gold bullion or classic graded coins just a little joke , send all them 69’s to John Albanese see if he will CAC green bean all of them ? Maybe even CAC gold bean a few ... it’s a no wonder why they don’t accept newer “modern” coinage for CAC
  10. 1944 Steel cent is often counterfeit using a 1943 steel cent removing the last digit and making it a “4” .. the 4 on your coin does look a little funky I’m guessing you found a counterfeit 1944 sure the weight is same cause they used a 1943 steel cent
  11. My wife don’t care for my coin collection , my kids don’t either , however my wife buys a lot exotic plants she once spent $700 on some kind of crossbred tropical plant she put it on my Credit card she got a lot heart we have so many plants in this house it looks like a tropical rainforest ! She also sells some plants on eBay as well there a market for them
  12. I keep my coins in NGC/PCGS plastic boxes , store them in my fireproof gun vault I have a dehumidifier rod in my gun vault I don’t use it don’t really need it but it came with it never seen any rust on my guns anyways however I keep a small pack of silica gel packets in my slab boxes I bought bulk of 100 small silica gel packs on eBay years ago wasn’t that much just for extra measure ...
  13. That’s a nice tone and strike for a Buffalo nickel , I used to collect the series I sold mine off back in 2014 , I remember, I had an odd 1936-S MS67 NGC it had awkward Pinkish color on observe of the coin it stood out only one I had in my set that wasn’t fully completed I needed the mid years in the series anyone ever see the pinkish toned buffaloes ?
  14. Over the years the mint changed their minting for proof coins they made fully struck proofs , Cameos , satin proof, reverse proof. (Nothing do with getting lazy) they were trying make something different for collectors see what they like . I like the satin proofs , I have a gold 2016-W Mercury dime really like the soft satiny look on the gold coins
  15. Forgive me for asking I don’t frequent these forums much I’ve been on here for awhile just don’t use the forums often ... what book are we talking about ? Sometime when I take break from collecting I’m always reading books on coins
  16. I don’t consider myself a pro at collecting , I keep a mind set buy the nicest coin that I feel is nice for me I’m not worried about flipping a coin to make an “investment” if I see a MS65 Morgan that looks great with a clean cheek VS an MS66 flashy with few small bag marks I’ll buy the MS65 Morgan ... I think a lot newer people getting into the hobby are looking for money it’s not all about money tell you truth some of coins I’ve sold to other collectors I barely broke even I didn’t gain any “extra profit”.. it took me short while to trust buying coins online as well , I always use a credit card or prepaid debit card to buy stuff online for safety reason (if something happens) it’s easier to turn off credit card just like that right from your computer or phone , unlike a banking debit card you can’t do that right away
  17. The thing I don’t like about these Gold and silver buyers they promote too much ads everywhere in news paper highest prices paid for coins and junk silver and gold all it does it promote a bunch of robberies to happen I often see them at hotels or small flea markets who heck walks in a flea market with $300-$500 worth of junk gold some of this stuff I see people selling looks like fine piece of Jewelry doesn’t look like junk oh well to each their own I bet some of that stuff was stolen I notice a lot more gold buyers popping up everywhere these days they all claim they pay the highest prices it must be a competitive market I don’t know , my coins ain’t junk if I sell them it would go to dealer or another collector not a junk and silver shop
  18. They were smaller shows and state yearly shows , I did go to a few near by state shows as well . At one time I was collecting pretty heavy now I’m more leaned back do most of my collecting online with dealers that I know and I can work with . Last show I went to had a bit of attendance the 1st day then 2nd day it quickly died off there was this one annoying kid running up and down Floors asking people if they wanted buy a bag of junk silver , he asked me on 4 different occasions at the show before I finally told him this is a coin show for collectors . Not a junk gold and silver investment show , way in back part of floor there was a guy back there with bags of junk silver not a single collectible coin on his table they should not allow them there it doesn’t promote finer points of collecting that’s just me how I see it ... I been going to coin shows since early 80’s with my grandfather and my father he was a big collector most of old dealers I knew are all long dead
  19. I myself started collecting world coins as well , I get tired of looking at the US coinage sometimes . I noticed 2-3 sellers are strictly world coins dealers at few of the shows I go too years ago world coins didn’t have the love on US market but today I do notice the trend some collectors dabbling their feet in world coins it’s growing in popularity every year for world coin market you really can’t get bored with world coinage there just way to many designs out there and so much history it’s just mind boggling just take a look at some 400+ years old world coins make your jaws drop to see the fine details and designs they put in the dies when striking coins then look at US coins say to yourself is that best US could do at that time making coins ? some US coins are eyesore
  20. The only dealers I deal with online are ones that I’ve met at coin shows they gave me a business card with a website , I’ve also met my fair share of dealers that I didn’t see eye to eye with Also a few very stubborn dealers who can’t haggle prices or offers I shy away from them , I noticed a lot newer collectors want high gain profit from their coins everything is $$$$$ Then I see typical high end coin dealer who has a lot nice high end coins they are nice to see but not everyday a collector is walking in coin show with $10K-$20K to drop on a specific coin high end coins are hard to find a buyer the smart dealers I see at coin shows sell a good bit keep business flowing they sell average coins that the average Joe can afford (probably 98% of coin collecting hobby is driven by the average Joe’s spending their hard own working money at same time paying the bills at home as well) collecting should be for live of it not for financial gains that’s what bullion for Thats just my opinion
  21. Do you notice a trend of less people attending coin shows ? I do compared to some of the coin shows in 80’s and 90’s ... I believe there are 2 factors one is Internet collectors like me are converting over to internet buying everyday is like going to a coin show on internet I only deal with dealers who have a return privileges if I don’t like the coin I can send it back . The 2nd factor I believe is result of lower interest in coin collecting is price range on a lot of “average mint state coins” such as Morgan dollars every dealer table has Morgan dollars look at 500 of them at show will make your eyes bleed they are so common a lot younger people don’t have finances available to spend a couple hundred of dollars on a single coin . Makes me wonder about the future of our coin collecting hobby
  22. How many coin show do you attend ? I used to attend about 10-12 shows a year ... Lately for last 7-8 years I been down to 1-2 shows a year , I do most of coin buying online now a day through private dealers
  23. My Tuvalu coin doesn’t have to be graded , I like my coins in slabs I bought my good luck charm in slab at that time for $80 it came with 70 grade I couldn’t find any in 69 grade not that grade mattered to me I got the box and papers with it as well .... as for modern commemorative coins I just started collecting them I’m only get them in NGC 69 grades (I can’t see myself sending them in raw for grading when I can get most of them for under $50) save myself hassle I just buy them graded ,so far I got 1983 Olympic set P, D, S and S proof gonna take me awhile probably a good few years to collect all 140+ coins from 1983-2021 . I’m just collecting them for fun taking a break from collecting my classic series of Morgan’s , walkers ,Mercury dimes and world coins
  24. Boy Scout coin is a nice design I like that one , if you send it in probably get MS69 as most are but hey if I wanted a 70 grade that bad , I buy 69 put a small piece of white tape over grade write 70 on it put it under my pillow it helps me sleep better at night knowing I’m part of the “70’s collector’s club” ...
  25. I have couple coins from Perth mint they make some odd cool stuff ! I got 1 graded by PCGS a Tuvalu rotating “good luck” charm with rotating ball in middle of the coin , also have “ying yang” rotating charm as well I haven’t sent them for grading yet maybe some day . I rarely dabble my feet in the modern coin market ... yeah, yeah I know it’s a PCGS coin it would look better in an NGC holder for sure
