@EdG_Ohio I remember while back you posted up a Germania coin to go along with your beer steins I said how I wanted to jump on them and start collecting them , I took break from my regular coin collecting and started hunting down all Germania Allegories and Germania series , I even got my hands on the proofs which are hard to find with only 1000 minted thought I’d share with you .

Private issues , silver rounds who made them ? I have no idea there’s a lot private issued silver rounds being made by private mints we never heard of not yet some books been and will be written in future on private mints… And some of them are really cool and well detailed in fact some of them are better looking quality wise than what we see come out of government mint seems everyone one only wants to buy them for spot melt value “but it’s only worth bullion” is what I hear all time basically what they are saying it has no numismatic value … Geeze why don’t I take MS66 Carson city break it out of slab throw it in a pile of silver and “say it’s only bullion no big deal” … maybe some folks snark at silver bullion being made now a days it might not be big numismatic collectible right now but in near future it may so called dollars were like that now there a group collectors going around trying to collect every “so called dollar” they can find there’s a market for them now same can be said for medals as well so I do believe there will be market for bullion rounds in future with different designs on them some of them will be scarce and rare it’s not just some “junk silver that you melt”

Well , “common” coin to find when searching around for one for your collection I must say the MS coins in certain years are harder to find . I’m thinking about focusing on completing a full set of German silver 1 marks most of the ones I’ve seen for sale are heavily circulated . I’m looking for Gem to UNC send them in grading myself . I know they are out there just gotta hunt them all down might even have get them directly over seas Gotta Love Denver mint ! They made the best beautiful German coins 😉

Poor man 1955 cent is and example of how a deteriorating die can make the same impression over and over again exactly the same , I seen no difference with Mint mark on your coins showing the same effect

1915-D German empire 1 mark KM#14 Pretty common German coin to find only reason I bought this one is I collect old school NGC slabs if they are in perfect condition . I rarely find the old “Green border no bar code label” NGC fatty holders anymore this one is very gem not even a scratch on it looks as new as the day they slabbed it

I picked up a Krause German coin book 1601-present even used that cost me a pretty penny @ $80 I still prefer the paperback book

@Conder101 at the beginning of the Krause DVD does it mention anything about piracy ? Few years back a friend gave me his PDF link to the Krause publication I have them as well on my laptop and home computer he was one that told me he paid $12 or $15 for digital copies of Krause price guides he passed along and shared the PDF to me perhaps person had license agreement to do that I don’t know , rarely do I hear anyone get busted for piracy anymore even the movies we stream online today probably 99% of them pirated especially if it’s a newer movie that just came out . Lol

Any pictures ? if not take some pictures post them up I’ve received a few coins I though there finger prints on coins they turned out to be dirty greasy finger prints that dried out on the slab they wiped off easy , they weren’t on the coin but they casted a faint shadow on the coin it looked like they were actually on the coin but they weren’t … I’ve seen 1 dark toned Morgan at coin show once that did have finger print on the coin while it resides in slab it had grade MS64 I tilted the coin back and forth through light I noticed it was showing in all direction regardless how light shined off it it was definitely on the coin … I guess we have understand the graders grade a coin for strike and luster and contact marks as well as AT and harsh cleaning I guess finger prints don’t count

Never mind I been fooled 🤣 saw “copy” written on the coins

Are thoes real 1936 Proof walking liberty half dollars ? Yeah they are worth grading alone themselves fetch $2,000 or more depending on grade they get ! But I would keep the set intact and not broken up I’ve never seen a proof set like that though not back that far

I’m looking for higher grade MS (brown or red) German Baden 1 Kreuzer to complete my set in my collection years (1859-1871) KM# 242 included picture for *reference only* (not my pictures)

@Coinbuf , that’s a good read about lighting and coin photography . I saved that link rarely does anyone explain deeply about lighting and how camera adjust to the lighting

What type of lighting do you use ? incandescent , Fluorescent, halogen or LED ? they all throw a different shade and brightness . I know light shines off Silver differently than Copper , or Gold

That looks like a cool system , I can actually make one of them out scrap metal I have laying around or use an old drill press column make a platform at bottom heck even a wood dowel column would work with that. Pretty neat idea never thought of it thanks for sharing Mount camera on column of drill press stationary and used drill press table to raise and lower the table from the camera same concept add lighting as well ,if you can’t afford to spend $500 on a system

That is true , rarely do prices change at all in Krause books just too many coins out there to update the book on yearly basic so even an older paperback Krause guide will work I do prefer the paperback style books over the downloaded version it’s just paperback style is so expensive once you get one it last for long while though cause prices rarely change much

For world coins price guide is Krause world coins big thick book from different years there you can also get digital download of this book cheaper as well you can get them all for like $12 download them on your computer there’s so many world coins it’s mind boggling . Once you start collecting world coins it gets harder to go back to collecting US coinage Krause world coin books : years 1601-1700 Years 1701-1800 Years 1801-1900 Years 1900-present

I might be interested in your GB coins or if you have some old old German states and Germany coinage you can sell them on here at market place forums

I heard some folks on here mention a USB microscope not sure what brand folks are using but it blows coin up big so you can see all details and so on probably can take pictures with I don’t know never used one yet I’m old school only use loupe to look at coins . As for picture taking I think a good micro lens camera is a must for coins like Nikon camera

I was told graders use a 5x loupe when grading coins . A lot stuff sticks out on a coin when you move up to 20x - 30x power . You sure you see whizzing lines or mint polishing dies before striking can leave lines on coin that look like whizzing

Also the coins look very yellowish ? Is it toned that way ? Or just lighting and pictures . Yellow toned coins are not very desirable any whizzing on coin is not acceptable either I don’t think NGC will let that skirt by without putting it on the slab as a problem coin

The 36’ and 43’ look sharply struck by looking at skirt lines possibly get 65+ or 66 grade is they are P mint mark not worth sending in 42’ or 43’ unless they are D or S mint . However the 36’ is nice worth sending in even if it gets 65 grade it still worthy grading holds some value again you buy them graded already like everyone else is saying … do you have pictures of the reverse of the coins? The eagle’s breast feather determines the grade on back of the coin

Cool coin , or medallion or whatever you call it … something different ! I don’t know why some folks on here are giving you a hard time over little coin out of all honesty it sometimes gets real boring on here seeing and constantly talking about “US coinage” which 90% of US coins are ugliest coins on earth ever made but 90% of folks on here know no better but to only collect “US coinage” everything else is garbage … My brother a few years asked if I saved any of our hot wheel cars from back in late 60’s and 70’s we had hundreds and hundreds of them when we were little when we gotten tired of playing with a certain car we used to lay them on railroad track “crushing time” we called it .. Sadly not knowing we crushed some well sought out collectible hot wheel cars , back then we never thought they would be collectibles on today’s market . Goes to show who knows what the future holds for certain collectibles … We did the same thing to garbage pal kid cards we collected in 80’s damaged and abused them some of them cards are worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars on today’s market
