  1. Yeah, doesn't look like there is much available online. Seems like there won't be many choices as far as raw unc candidates for submission go. Yuck, '62 & '63 seem to have even fewer unc examples, like zero.
  2. I'm glad Steve moved off of Michigan tokens for now, me and my wallet needed a break. Fantastic token and information as always, congrats on the NEWP!
  3. Those 3p coins are miniscule, not only is the diameter tiny but they are Über thin as well. If one is laying on a flat surface I couldn't pick it up by the rim with my fingertips, I have to scooch it to the edge of the table, slide it onto something, or use both hands just to pick one up. Lovely coins though. I wonder why they have such a high point value on the '56?
  4. Having these coins graded makes zero sense financially, the fees would never be recouped, the OP would loose money. Better pictures would be a benefit but seeing as these proof sets sell for around $10 it's hardly worth spending any time or money on unless there was an additional reason to upgrade.
  5. The coins are toning and I see nothing wrong or odd with the cent, the rest of the coins look perfectly normal as well. Leave it as is, there is nothing in the pictured set worth having graded.
  6. Nobody currently participating on this board will be alive to see it, and I'm hoping I've got another 30 years in me.
  7. The mint distributes coins in large bulk storage bags, you need a forklift to move them. It's probably a legit error, not purposefully created, when, where and how it was found...
  8. I'd leave it as is. This is an interesting one, according to the NGC price guide the nickel is valued at $450 in MS70 condition and at $200 & $190 in MS69 & 68 respectively, yet, these sets can be purchased for under $140 all day long on ebay. At NGC, graded 70 = 36%, graded 69 = 61%, graded 68 = 2%, graded 68, 69 or 70 = 99%. I like the dollar.
  9. Wowzah! Only problem is that I'd have to get a similarly constructed cabinet to store an index card system of where I put which coins.
  10. I just read in a Coin World article on IMEX, it said in the article that there was a marathon race held in Nashville on the same Saturday as IMEX, making access difficult and possibly hurting attendance that day. There are always events going on in a city but nothing brings a big city to a screeching halt like a marathon, or any event when they are blocking off half the roads in the city.
  11. Generally correct, there's not enough money in world varieties for TPG's to justify getting any more involved with them than they already are. It stinks, but that's the facts. For a pedigree they are going to put down whatever you write on the form essentially, right or wrong. It's doubtful the graders ever looked at a PhotoVision image of the coin, why would they? They are only going to look at varieties they currently recognize when asked (paid) to on the submission form. Database management is an expense and the money isn't there for them to open the flood gates in terms of additional varieties, if you're talking about pop reports I don't think that is much of a factor since they are a mess anyway.
  12. $0.25, if someone will take it in commerce or exchange.
  13. I'm not 100% sure that it is a 3-1/2 leg buff, hard to tell in the pics but the upper half of the leg seems more well defined than the lower half, I would expect that the leg should be more uniform in appearance. There is also some damage in that area which could be affecting the look of the leg. If better pics can be provided it may help others make a determination. The coin looks to be in low VF condition and it is a details piece due to the gouges on the obv. Still, a nice find if authentic. Maybe take this to a local coin shop/dealer or coin show, if there is one near you, to get an in hand opinion on it. The coin would be worth having graded and authenticated by a TPG, if you are reasonably certain that it is a 3-1/2 leg.
  14. Highly recommend this for anyone interested in Free State coinage. It's a quick read with lots of interesting tidbits if you're not familiar with the series.
  15. The show was open to the public Friday and Saturday.
  16. Sounds like they wanted to have a dealers convention and the public to foot the bill and not cater to them or provide adequate reason to do so? It doesn't seem like many of their customers were satisfied, dealers who rely on retail, not a good way to go. So be it. There's plenty of time for dealer to dealer transactions at all of the major shows, small ones too, they can also pick up a phone or go online if meeting a dozen or so times at coins shows throughout the year isn't sufficient. It'll be interesting to see what happens next year in terms of dealer attendance, change of venue, streamlining and public attendance goes. That is if there is another IMEX. The yeas are leading 8 to 5 in the poll, I'm a little surprised by that.
  17. You're pulling my leg, right? My opinion is that you should stop looking for errors immediately. Your time would be better spent learning from some of the various links and resources already mentioned. The coin in the OP is a spender, if anyone will take it.
  18. Krause published several Standard Catalog's, world coins, banknotes, etc.. I would be completely on board if someone, CDN Publishing perhaps, picked up the pieces left over from when Krause was dismantled but I think there is pretty much zero chance of that happening. One of the problems of resurrecting Krause is that it was diced up into pieces, Penguin bought the publishing rights and Numismaster took over the cataloging if I remember correctly. Numismaster vigorously inhales at keeping up to date and why would Penguin publish the old catalogs with no new Pick #'s or Krause-Mishler #'s? It's been a few years now and newer, and better, catalogs have stepped in for some areas where Krause used to reign. Krause is dead, the only question left is what cataloging system/s are going to be used in the future. Right now it's looking like most everything will be specialized and that general, standard, catalogs will mostly go away.
  19. Many seem to be complaining about the registration and entry process, floor layout, the $10's, etc.. Charmy did a nice job of listing issues/concerns in her show report ats. I'm in lockstep with her on one of the points, cut dealer day in half and open the show to the public starting on Thursday.
