...sure fire formula to never get the coins u really want....the taste of not getting the coin is worse than the taste of over paying...if u really want it just buy it n then u have no remorse or having to deal with the fact that the coin may never surface again to buy....if u r a buyer/collector of the 5 star coins u should have already faced the question of can u afford to really collect what u want.....

Folks I have over 50 fantastic World coins up for auction this week at Heritage. Most all are Top Pops and were part of my collections here at NGC for many years. These are some of my best and favorite pieces but it's time for others to enjoy them as I have.
    Good luck!
    Phil

But wait, didn't you read the fine print when you applied for an Alabama drivers license?  You renounced your 66 years as a Yankee now that you're a citizen of the #1 State in the Union (at least alphabetically)

On even further research, I have discovered that in Pennsylvania, “house bidding” and “shill bidding” risk not ONLY administrative penalties (those related to licensing) but they are also literal Title 18 CRIMES in Pennsylvania, which subject an auctioneer to fines and/or imprisonment. If a consignor wants lowball protection, the only method is “auction subject to a reserve price”. That’s Pennsylvania.

I have the most amazing, most incredible solution to all of this HA nonsense....

    GREATCOLLECTIONS. COM

I know I know, HA has.....um... er..... well.... what? What is it that they have that make it a better alternative to GC?
GC has incredible customer service, HA has none. GC has extremely quick payout time, HA has... well.... months of waiting to get paid. GC has fees that are reasonable, HA has fees that are so high it is borderline insulting, GC has friendly staff who are happy to make consigning an easy/ simple process. HA has a system where unless one of their agents thinks you have 6 figures worth of coins to sell they don't want to give you the time of day and even when u do have a 6-figure plus consignment it still isn't easy to get anywhere with their "consignment experts" or whatever they ate called. GC seems to treat all their customers the same, whether a 3, 5, 6, or 7-figure consignor. While HA justifies their much higher fees by boasting about their superior buyers pool, meaning they will tell you that even though sellers fees are higher, sellers will net more because there are so many more buyers, GC doesn't say anything and just sells your coins for more money and with less fees as their prices have been and continue to be as strong or stronger than HA for quite sometime now, regardless of the size of their buyers pool....

At this point, i honestly do not know why anybody would work with HA when GreatCollections is available as an option...
All that's just my opinion of course, which isn't very popular around here these days...

Maybe someone could help me out, and give me any reasons how HA can even find consignors of coins when GC is so much better/cheaper/faster at paying out/ friendlier/easier to work with/ etc.... ?

I can't seem to figure it out.

There seems to be a belief that HA is in the business of inflating auction prices. They are not.

They are in the business of selling coins at auction and through their own direct sales.

They don't pay the buyers premium in cash (although it may be part of the charges between the two sales channel for their internal P&L purposes).

if a coin at auction is seriously undervalued and HA believes they can sell it shortly for more money, then yes, they might buy it at auction and list it for sale through their online and eBay platforms.

To my knowledge, there is no new policy and I don't know the details regarding the lot you linked.

I do know that client accounts are set up so as to prevent consignors from bidding on their own lots. As an example, when I had my own rare coin business and used to consign to Heritage, there were a few times when, after viewing auction lots, I was placing bids on-line and unknowingly tried to bid on my own consigned coins. A message popped up, indicating something to the effect that I was prohibited from bidding on my own lot.

Skillful working Janis in here.  I have no qualms about our neighbors to the north (did you know 90% of them live within 100 miles of the US?).  It's their government that gives me the willies.

"Freedom" is just another word for nothing left to lose.  If you have ever been stuck on the AlCan in January you'd be wailing your heads off at how good the Canadians are.

I am not saying this is 100%, and there is room for disagreement.  I don't know how trolls are born.  But, I certainly see legitimate new coin collectors get unnecessarily clobbered regularly, and they are not trolls.  Some of it is downright cringeworthy.
YouTubers need to be educated.  When I wanted to learn about coins, I went right to YouTube.  When I wanted to fix a garbage disposal, I went right to YouTube.  It's just a first step for most.  Since that time, I have learned to differentiate "good" from "bad" information.  Now, if the YouTuber becomes educated by the group, and they refuse to understand facts - skewer away.  Little is as irritating to read someone argue over and over that they have something that they clearly do not (queue "Ignore" button).
The member that you mentioned is 100% troll.  He is neither a newbie, nor a collector that can (or wants to be) helped.  Fortunately, I never see his posts.  I was sucked in for a while, but the "Ignore" button solves problems, and you no longer see me engaging with those that are clearly trolls.

Since Z brought up the Jubilee and QE II, the Noonans Platinum Jubilee Banknote Auction catalogue is a must have for any QE II or banknote people out there. It has some wonderful information on 26 of the 30 principle portraits used on banknotes all over the world for the past 70 years. I don't know if you can download a digital copy from Noonans still, I can't find it right now, but here is a link to the auction results.
    https://www.noonans.co.uk/auctions/archive/past-catalogues/

If it's not available off of the Noonans website anymore I have a PDF of it if anyone's interested. I'll look around some more online for a downloadable PDF this afternoon. I'll post a link if I find it.

Yes but Canada is apparently much smarter than we are.

USA Today story from NINE years ago.

This works, but only if customers are never allowed to purchase more than one item at a time. Once you start buying multiple items you're back to sometimes it rounds up and sometimes it rounds down.

The Swiss don't have a 25 rappen coin, they have a 20 rappen.

And THAT does allow the prices to be set so that after tax it always rounds up, and the rounded up price is then posted.  Plus in this case purchasing more than one item DOES always result in higher profits for the merchant.  Having the sales tax built into the posted price DOES cheat the poor.  Set your prices so that after tax is applied it rounds up 2 cents and that allows the merchant to pocket an extra 2 cents on every single item you buy.

I think it would have been more insightful if you would have just posted a straight up question instead of adding an April fools joke that's been reposted on the various forums over the past year or two.  IMO, it did nothing but reduce the credibility of the post.  Look at how @MrBill348was inadvertently sucked into it.  Just my opinion
