Today was a good day for coins. Now I normally buy the regular MS coins for the registry set like this nice 56 but I could not pass on these DCAM coins at two for $15

I wish I had that. Ive seen some nice ones she talked me out of buying. But the good way to look at it is she keeps me in check. Makes sure I dont go over my budget.

Like I said in the other post it's a good day for coins . A nice coin. Not worth big bucks but I got it for a song and it is a nice looking 62 better than some of my 64 and 65s

I have been looking for a nice clean 1925 Lexington Commemorative. One that was not all toned out or rusty looking. I am very happy with this piece. Not sure why it is in the slab reversed but I think it makes it even better. It is not the same as everyone else's. I still got a deal not my usual 30 to 50% off retail but good enough for one of these coins. Every time I find one it always sells for a higher price than the price guides. I passed on a MS62 last year that was selling for a higher price than this one. I was kicking myself for not buying it then but now I am happy I waited. This is a real sharp looking MS63 by far in my book

That is a very nice 50 C piece.  Just the right amount for a coin that old.

I agree with @physics-fan3.14, it has to be attractive.  I know that's the most subjective part.  I define "attractive" as toning that is  1) original and 2) compliments the design elements.
I like dark and lightly toned coins.  I do not like the latest trend of people paying 3x for toned coins.

I like light golden toning. I like ones with even rim toning. Golden toning a little darker at the rim and gets lighter as you get closer to the center. Not real big on monster rainbow toners. Also like kobalt blue nickels.

How about... attractive toning. Be it light or heavy, it has to look good.

....yea but i bet ur mother didnt collect coins...i dont consider it overpaying, price guides r subjective n arbitrary n someone elses opinions, yes based on previous sales results, but those numbers r just what someone was willing to pay at that point in time...i dont base my purchases on what i could sell them for its more of what id be willing to sell for if i was going to sell....but we all need to be able to live with our purchases....

Same here. Its got me in trouble also when my wife seen it. She was watching as I was looking at my coins and I wasnt paying attention to the combined value at the time, but she sure noticed it and freaked out just a little bit. It was my quarters to. The ones I have the most in.  I tried to tell her thats the value they are worth and I didnt pay that much for them, but she wasnt buying it.  I thought she was gonna knock me in the head with a skillet again.  Please people who run the NGC website, make it optional to show that part. Be nice to disable it when our wives are lurking around while were on there admiring our progress. Those skillets hurt.

It's not ancient. If you want to sell it, you should post it in the buy/sell forum.

It is, it's just like here just green.
That it is an entirely separate site hurts traffic and participation, I think, if there was a link to it here, and vice versa, it would probably help. You know, like almost every other numismatic chat board does.  Probably too late for that place, everyone scattered to the wind long ago. Although I have noticed a little more participation over there in recent weeks it's typically short lived.

    A little side note
The San Francisco Federal Archives in San Bruno CA
have copies of letters that show millions of dollars in gold coins (Half Eagles, Eagles, and Double Eagles) being shipped once or twice a week from the SF Mint to the Denver Mint in 1908-1909

I remember somebody once describing an old picture they (allegedly) saw of three Fort Knox workers on their lunch break sitting on stacks of gold bars playing poker for matchsticks!

I know it may seem biased but..........The PMG site is really good.  All my currency is graded by PMG.  PMG of years ago too.

I doubt they will ever demonetize it (half cents are still monetized)  But they will probably eventually drop the melting restriction.  Just like they did for the silve coins once the amount in circulation dropped to a miniscule level.

That's why after they are all glued down they are then coated with a plastic resin.  They effectively become like those coins embedded in Lucite.

One thing you might be able to do with them is sell them on eBay to other copper hoarders.  I remember back when the horder of the copper cents started you used to be able to sell them for 2.5 to 3 cents each to other copper hoarders.

They are probably looking for a match to one or more of these notes in their possession. It's a well known error and if more matches are found the prices will probably start to decline, last pair I saw auctioned went for a little over 7k in 2021, unless they are condition rarities or have fancy serial numbers. Regardless I'm glad to see this live on, no matter what the motivation might be.
