How about... attractive toning. Be it light or heavy, it has to look good.

I agree with @physics-fan3.14, it has to be attractive.  I know that's the most subjective part.  I define "attractive" as toning that is  1) original and 2) compliments the design elements.  

I like dark and lightly toned coins.  I do not like the latest trend of people paying 3x for toned coins.

I like light golden toning. I like ones with even rim toning. Golden toning a little darker at the rim and gets lighter as you get closer to the center. Not real big on monster rainbow toners. Also like kobalt blue nickels.

That is a very nice 50 C piece.  Just the right amount for a coin that old.

It depends on the type of coin for me, older coins that SHOULD have toning, the deeper the better, more modern coins I prefer none at all. I know alot of people would consider this one too dark, but for me its perfect......
