Before I went to FUN - I went thru my Half Dollar collection

and determined that there were a few coins I thought were

undergraded. I was very conservative in my grading and I

thought these six coins were deserving of an upgrade or at

    least a PLUS.

    Date:-------Current Grade ------ Expected Grade------New Grade

    1894-P...XF 45........................AU 50........................AU 50 ... :applause:

    1898-P...AU 50....................... AU 53........................AU 50.... :screwy:

    1902-O...VF 35........................ XF 45........................VF 35..... :makepoint:

    1907-S... VF 35........................XF 45........................VF 35..... :makepoint:

    1908-D....XF 40.......................XF 45.........................XF 45..... :applause:

    1909-O....XF 45.......................AU 50........................AU 50..... :acclaim: .

The three that didn't upgrade are so far undergraded its not a laughing matter.

I bought the 02-O in VF 35 because it was so undergraded - I paid XF money for it -

and I thought it was worth it... as I knew the coin would get a 45. Wrong !

Just picked this up for my 3rd Set of Dimes...

Just a bit of info on this date. According to Lawrence - who mentions that it is just rumor -

there were four wagon loads of 1907-D Dimes that left the Denver Mint and somewhere along

the way in the cliffs of the Black Canyon, all four wagons were lost ... this was reported in

    Numismatic News based on an article by Ed Rothette and reprinted in the BCCS Journal - Vol. 2 - # 2;

This date also happens to have the absolute lowest over all POP

of any regular issue Barber Dime - the only one with fewer certified

[at PCGS ] is the 1893/"2". Only 91 have been certified in all grades

    ATS.

Sorry... but the 1901 Dime [ love it ] is out of sequence...

and so is that great IHC of 1901...

The correct date is 1910 or Barber Half Dollars -

    IDHAIR is correct...

So... the coin coming is either 1903 or

another Barber Half Dollar... shucks, what's

    a guy to do ??

    lol.... looks like I'll add a new [ old ] Dime of 1903 !!

I picked up an old coin of mine from a friend who had bought it

back in 2010. It came out of my Dansco album... and considering

that I have sold off my first two Dimes sets and am now 95%

complete with the third collection - I thought I'd add another of

    my old coins.

Originally bought raw from David Lawrence in 1994 and it resided

in my Dansco until 2010, when I sold it to the JMW Collection.

My friend, Joe, upgraded the coin and I definetly wanted it back.

WALT was not at FUN... He was missed... He always manages to sniff out

a few nice Barbers ... then bring them to us Barberites for "show & tell".

I was holding something in reserve to spring on him in case he did show up,

something even he would swoon over... another new discovery ( raw obviously )

1905-O Half in AU 53. ( Sorry, the VF 25 in my set is staying put ! )

He's working on his Quarter collection and has some really nice newps in it.

Although I have not seen his new 1896-S Quarter in PCGS 58, all who have

say it's the nicest 58 they have ever seen. Considering I just brokered the sale

of another 96-S also in PCGS 58 with a CAC, [ which was a coin I'd call AU 64

as there was no rub on the reverse - fully Prooflike fields - abundant swirling

luster on the obverse - amber-gold rim toning - without a doubt the nicest I have

ever seen personally - ( my old set had a great AU 53 ) - ] that is a pretty tall statement.

I just spoke with the owner of the 96-S I placed and he's like a boy at Christmas

who just got his first bicycle ! He's gushing with pride of ownership. The new owner

is not a newbie by any means - he was a coin dealer back in the 1970-80's. now a

sucessful businessman, he is buying coins for his personal collection that he has

always had a penchant for in the past.

I have as yet had my box of 20 newps imaged - one of these days, promise.
