While browsing for Dimes - I found one that I had bid on a

couple of weeks ago - an 1892-P with really beautiful rim toning

but it was in a Gennie holder - and I was just going to crack it out

for the 7070 Type set. It sold for $5 more than my bid - oh well...

but the buyer relists the coin on eBay - and asks 100% markup

over what he paid. Needless to say, my friend Dimeman ATS is

up in arms about this not being in a graded holder.

The coin was relisted today at $345 [ he paid $145 for it - plus the juice ]

No one will touch it at that price - but regardless - the coin sure is pretty.

I stumbled across this 09-O Dime in an ICG 58 - and bought it

without asking my Dime mavens what they thought - seems this coin

has been around the block a few times - and has sold and been returned

more than a few times - oh well... its still a nice looking coin...

  2. Mike that sure is a looker.

Thanks - I sort of liked it when I saw the auction house images - but I can't trust their images very often. When I registered the coin ATS - this image popped up.

I'm really excited to be getting this coin asap. I want to take it with me to the ANA Summer Seminar course that I am co-teaching with Glenn Holsonbake:

"The Coinage of Charles E. Barber "

Here's another newp - same auction - same pleasing discovery at PCGS :

  3. See you at FUN then !

Here's a coin I looked at at FUN last January and a friend bought it because its

such an amazing rim toned coin. It was one of the nicest looking lower graded

[ANACS 63] Barber Dimes I have ever seen. He bought it from a dealer I have

great respect for - Joe Kaminski - and I know Joe treated my friend right.

Well, as fate would have it, the coin I previewed for my friend is on its

way to me, as my friend doesn't collect Barbers - but was only captivated

by its appearance. Although I have a few 1893's - this one is worth having.

Glad to see the 05-O has arrived safely, Justin.

Nice job photographing his coins, Brandon.

Not to choose sides in the Great Black or White Background Debate,

but I have to side with Brandon on this one. I like the black background.

The image of the 1905-O Half in Pcgs 25 was done by Messydesk.

I posted this on the Barber Thread, but it's too nice to not be included here:

Last post for awhile ... here are the two new Quarters ...

This 1915-S Quarter was also once in my collection - sold it 2 years

ago - and decided to buy it back - for actually less money that what I sold it for !

I just saw this coin today on a friends web site and have made arrangements

to have it shipped to me.

Justin - I turn the thread over to you and Jeff.

Looking to see many nice images !!

Ok, Jeff, I do remember talking to you after the meeting was over - during "show and tell" with John Frost ...

Its hard to call those three Halves Uncirculated - as clearly they all have

rub to some degree or other. The 05-O & 94-S have good shots at a 58,

the 1900-O is not quite as pristine as the others - so I'm calling it a 55.

What NGC calls them is a whole new ball of wax. The graders can be

very strict and net grade / genuine a coin if they believe there is anything

askew. Its been said before - there are no more free lunches in the grading

    room. lol

So, Jeff, are you going back to Summer FUN in mid July ?

I think I'll try and make it on Friday. Maybe I'll see you there !

  7. Jeff - Welcome to the NGC Forums !!

The 05-O is stunning - and I can easily see it in a 58 holder ...

    and I think NGC may grant you another 58 [ I would call it a 55 ]

on the 1900- Phila. Nice coin. The last coin, an 1894-S, is also deserving

of an AU 58 as well, provided that the obverse facial marks are not deep..

Looking forward to additional images - and someone else feeding this

Thread. Hope you're a member of the BCCS - and look forward to meeting

you one of these days. I'll be at the Chicago ANA - if you are as well, I'll

be helping my friend out at Holsonbake Numismatics.

  8. I picked up a few more Dimes for the collection - three of which I once owned - and had to pay the Piper - believe me - to get them back.

This coin was originally in the TCP-III Collection - aka: Tom Casey - I bought it in 2009 - sold it at Heritage's Chicago ANA 2011 sale - and what ever profit I made, I have given back to get this great coin back.
