Thanks, Coindude

There is a very good reason why I have my coins professionally imaged...
now - you are looking at two of them.... Just picked this up at a coin show
in Fresno, CA - from Kevin Kaufmann of Choice Numismatics.
-
Now you are able to post an error - a Mercury Dime or any coin dated 1921
-
Latest - and only because of its toning - am not planning on a MS set.

No Baltimore show for me, however,
Glenn Holsonbake will be there and
is being assisted by two YN's from the
ANA Summer Seminars last Summer.
Mike and Weston will be there with Glenn.
Stop by and introduce yourself.
I'll PM you regarding financials.

I remember all too well, searching rolls after rolls of Mercury Dimes
in the off chance of finding an overdate. That was back in the day before
the clad Dimes were issued. My best find was an AU 58 Barber Dime.
So, it's 1942 or a Mercury ...
What's in the iPad ?? I have no idea what I just downloaded as the pics
are so small...

Nice 08-D I also thought it was uandergraded but didnt have the funds..
Mark,
I thought so as well, but the coin arrived yesterday -
its a nice 53 - no more - no less.
I was at the Sarasota Coin Show yesterday morning
and was very close to buying another Quarter - 1908-O
in PCGS 58 - price was right - it was a great coin - and would
have bought it - however - my inventory sheets said I owned
one in 58 with a CAC...
Now that I see my images - the one at the show was nicer. I should have
bought it - but I really didn't want any more duplicates. Now, I'm not too happy about it. Oh, well.

Really enjoyed seeing the Kennedy medal.
Now that the Kennedy Half is in it's 50th year,
I wonder if they'll modify it. As the state and ATB
Quarters have done for the hobby, it might be a
good idea that this non circulating coin be used to
commemorate other events... Could be a new
resurgence in Half Dollar Commems.
Please, though, mint them only in Cu/Ni to
try and keep, the costs down, let's try and get
more YN's to join the hobby. If the Mint would
only charge a tiny amount over face value, I
think the kids would enjoy the series... And maybe,
Go back further and collect older series !

Amazing what you'll find when you least expect to find it....
I wasn't searching for this date, as I have a very pleasant
AU 58 in my collection and last month, sold my MS 66 ...
but this coin spoke to me... and, it's a fairly good match to
my 1898-O Quarter in MS.
If only I could locate an 1898-S that looks like this....
My 1898-O for comparison...

I spotted this little number on eBay - and they were asking PCGS
Guide Book Price for it. I think the coin is a couple of points nicer
than the grade....

Thanks, Justin.
No, that was an NGC 50 that Vern & I inspected at Chicago,
which belonged to Kollector-King and who consigned it to
Robbie at The Reeded Edge.
The owner took Robbie's advice and submitted the coin for
cross over; the coin has since been sold to a collector who
posts ATS Mega Thread. He has mentioned it in his posts.
Nice coin, but I still like Doug's better in the NGC 53 holder;
it's a matter of personal taste I guess. Doug's coin's surfaces
are unmarked and just light rub is evident. Some have downgraded
His coin to a 45 or 50; I assure you, it's as nice or nicer than any
53 I have seen ( PCGS has a POP - One in 53... Imaged above ),
but I have seen dozens on AU's over the years... Many qualifying
for the 53 grade. The POP's would be higher on this date if people
would leave their coins alone and not try and squeeze a point or two
higher by doctoring the surfaces. Jeez, no matter how hard they try
and how skillful these coin doctors are, their feeble attempts are always
shown up.
The other 01-S from the recent Heritage auction, a PCGS 55,
which was not viewed all that favorably by those who got a good
chance of viewing it in hand, is now for sale at a major's dealers'
Web Site. I was contacted about buying it, however, there is yet
another 55 out there that has my name on it. All I have to do is
wait for the owner to decide to sell. It may be a few years though.

Well, I was hoping to have been the 150,000 th hit on this Barber Thread,
but it seems since yesterday 124 people clicked on, left no message, or
posted no images. Still, it chugs along. There are just shy of 1,600 posts
to this thread and that does seem like quite a bit, yes, but surely someone
can throw in a discussion of any Barber Topic. I'd love to see something
else but my posts getting up here.
Ok, I heard from John Frost, the IT Guy at the BCCS ( Barber Coin Collectors
Society ) and it seems as if I was nominated (by Glenn Holsonbake) to work on
Half Dollar Varieties.
So, here's a chance to list your thoughts as to which Half varieties are the most
important to you. Any variety works, I'll compile a list before the end of the year
and forward that list to the BCCS for inclusion in their Spring 2014 Quarterly.
Members would then have approximately 6 months to list which coins they have
... It was done last year with Quarters - and proved a rousing success.
If you have images of a variety and want to attach them to a post, great. The more
images the better. Knowing that the Half Dollar series is the more preferred one
among collectors, I am hoping this readership will take a few moments and jot down
their thoughts and attach any images they have.
Full credit will be given to the contributor in the BCCS Journal.
Happy hunting everyone.
..... ending with a Barber - from the IPad... Hope it attaches...here is the newest 01-S
graded by Pcgs... AU 53....

Thanks, Justin. Seems my set is just steamrolling along.
I had some eBay Bucks to use and decided to grab this
for my Low Ball Set of Liberty Head Nickels ( I have others
in MS 62 & 63 ) ...
.

I just agreed to take this more common dated Quarter
from someone who is liquidating his Barbers - his others
are nicer than this 55 - most a nicely toned 58's - but they
would have ended up being duplicates and I have too many
of those as it is...
THE COIN ARRIVED MONDAY - OCT. 7TH - IT HAS MUCH MORE LUSTER
THAN THE IMAGES PORTRAY. ITS NOW OFF TO CAC FOR SOME GREEN
BEANING !!

BKW - NICE Dimes !!!
-
Mike, that's one of the nicest 55's I've ever seen.
I hope CAC thinks so as well. It's staying in its NGC holder ... and I hope
it gets a Gold Bean to dress it up a bit.
One of the prettiest Dimes I now own. Thrilled to have won it ( albeit at 63 money ).

A new Buffalo has been added to the collection
VERY nice Buff Eric!!
When I collected Buffalos, I never had the chance to acquire any as nice as this 1926
that you just bought. Fantastic coin. Really nice !!!
-
I won this at auction - and never thought I would because this coin is a MUST HAVE....
I sort of figured there must be someone else who loves this coin more than I do... guess not...
-
Now that I've retired - my eyes are always scanning different sites for
"pretty little things"...
Here's a newp that I hadn't noticed until Mark bought that great toned Quarter
that he just showed us. Every so often, I guess someone has to stick my nose
in web sites before I realize there are some real gems hidden in not so fancy
auctions.
Here's a duplicate 1896 Dime - but its so much nicer looking than my MS 63.
-
Hey Mark, No wonder I didn't see that 1914 Quarter - I was watching the
Breaking Bad marathon - and the final episode was over at 10:15.
Picked this upgrade for the MS set:
I also am having this one sent as well...
...even though I also have this one ....
all I can say its all in the eye appeal !
-
Mark: Nice 1914 - love the reverse toning - did that come
from the recent HA Long Beach auction as well ? It slipped
under my radar. Congrats. One of the nicest toned Quarters
around.

My Mom was born in 1921 - so I have a few Peace Dollars ...
I could keep adding more Peace Dollars - but I think there is more interest
in Buffalo Nickels...
