Keep the Homer - it’s a good name that has some meaning. Good luck with the IG. Did you attend the Richmond show? If so, how about a show report.

Learn something everyday. I haven’t really looked at these dollars before. Not really a modern type of guy. I think the quarter program really soured me on the new stuff - too many to really care I guess.

I am one of those collectors that has little to zero interest in trade dollars, I have one for my type set and that is all I will ever need so I cannot be of any help to you. I know there are a few individuals on the PCGS forum that are very much into the type and series, given that you are not allowed to participate there (at least not under your usual name) if there is someone there that you want to contact I would be happy to send them a PM on your behalf.
What about trade dollar nut? Not sure if Bruce collects them or not.

Sounds like a great idea.

I think you should start with Isle of Man coinage and tokens. Let me know when you find some unique pieces. My budget is shattered right now from banknotes but will eventually recoup.
Thought about buying this one on the cheap.
Isle of Man Medals, Death of John Murray, Duke of Atholl, 1774, a silver medal by J. Kirk, bust right, rev. female figure in mourning, 37mm, 18.37g (BHM 192; E 756; Quarmby 146)

My numismatic library is growing in unexpected ways. There are many good books out there that need a home. New interests, expanded curiosity and the added benefit of meeting new friends.
How has your library grown overt the past few years? Have you started new collections stemming from your new additions?

I'm a very avid collector, but expect that the proceeds from the sale will benefit a lot more people than the collection does. We had our chance to view and study the collection over many years and should be grateful to Harry Bass and his foundation for that.
Have your sights and pocketbook ready. Should be a wonderful auction.

I thought the whole point of the Bass Foundation was to keep the collection together and display it for people to see and learn? I know ANA doesn't own it, they just house it... but surely that is a major loss to the museum.
Why is the foundation choosing to sell it?
So they can donate to more non-profits.

ANA has NOTHING to do with the decision to sell the collection. The Bass Foundation owns it, and is selling it. The ANA merely “houses and displays” the collection. But…. if all you’re about is ANA bashing, who cares about little things like facts, right?
It’s not the ANAs fault. It’s disappointing that the Bass foundation decided to sell.

I talked with Harry several times not long before his death. He wanted people to gain knowledge from his collection -- all of it - and not sell it for a few pieces of silver.
The sale is very disappointing, but I am sure there are a few out there licking their chops.

What Morgans, Saints, and Liberty's does this collection have ?
An overview

I have always wanted to visit the Harry Bass Jr. collection at the ANA in Colorado Springs. Well, I waited too long, actually June will be to long. The collection will go to auction. Since I will most likely not be able to visit by June, the best I can do is possible preview the auction when it is announced. That most likely will not happen as well. So I am left with my book.
I wonder if Hansen will go after the 1870 S $3.

They went numeric instead.

I am starting to add my coins to the registry and when I used auto build for the CC set. My PCGS 1880CC #9169130 was approved to 1880 Rev 1879. How could they tell without seeing coin ? I actually didn't know there was 2 slots for each year of 1879 and 1880. How do you know how many slots will be in a certain set or can you request adjustments to number slots. Please excuse my learning curve LOL and sorry for poor photos - I need a new phone !
Browse the registry. You can review the complete Morgan set. If you are interested, there is also a nice Morgan CC GSA set. The GSA CC’s have a large following. Yours in not GSA, but I thought I’d steer you in that direction as well.

...well, regarding coins....just how r they going to know who owns what?, send out a questionnaire? go door to door?..ill be glad to show them my circ lincoln whitman tri-fold...n if they request/legislate the auction houses to provide auction results id think there be one hell of a backlash....n reduction in sales....
First they go after your registry sets. Then they’ll have your neighbors snitch on you.

I'm not sure why this is a debate: No, they should be graded to the same standard as any other coin.
In practice, this is not what usually happens, however.
Jason - long time no see. Welcome back.

First off, you need to determine if it’s real.
Also - what are your trading in return? Do you know this person?
