I'm planning on attending WFM :wishluck: and may hit CS if I have time. It's a little over a 2hr drive, I just need to block off a day where I can escape.

I’ve decided to skip Central States even though I’d like to attend. I wish it would only be two hours for me, I’d be there in a heartbeat, the WFM looks like a possibility, however. Just wish it wasn’t in August. Hot and humid.

The most meaningful advantage to ANA's August Convention and Bourse is the larger number of specialty and educational presentations. It also attracts better quality exhibits (and exhibit judging including Kurt Bell & Co.) and more display booths from other countries. The Bourse itself is no better nor worse than other large coin shows - it's still a dingy, flat wasteland of concrete, ugly signs and poor PA sound. Like other shows, it suffers from "bail out" after the first day or two, although since it's held in August, families have a better chance of  finding out about the hobby. Floor planning is routine and there's almost no attempt at creative organization or synergy. (Grouping dealers by "type" does not count as creative.)

If you can attend only one large show, try to make it the summer ANA and plan your bourse visits around the educational materials. Those who know everything, or for whom coins are merely profits, can attend any large coin show and notice little difference.

I may attend the WFOM this August for just the reason you mentioned above. I might even take the train.
      Kurt - you going?

I’d say without reservation that there is only one best - the August ANA show. I’ve been to FUN, and it’s a worthy alternative.

What makes the ANA show so good?  How are the foreign offerings?

Last year I had a submission that I sent registered and although the post office showed it was delivered after a week or so, it did not show up as having been received at NGC in my submission tracking.  I came to learn that when there are long backlogs, NGC will sign for the packages and store them in a secure vault on site until they have the capacity to open the packages and log in the submissions.  At that time it was a big backlog time and might have added a couple weeks to the process.  I haven't had this issue with my last submission last month.

And to add a bit, NGC now has, as part of there website, an option to enter the tracking number to see when they received the submission. It’s a nice addition.

  5.   I was just looking the Central States flyer for their upcoming show in a few weeks. I’ve never noticed an admission fee before. Is this something new or have I just missed it in the past?
For Kurt and Hog, I was even considering taking the cardinal up for a change. Most likely would drive, but it’s a thought. Forget O’hare.

      Anyone going?

Whats the closest Amtrak near Ky? Never thought about it before. Is it fairly cheap to take? I would much rather do that than fly. Im in Norther Ky. Between Lexington and Portsmouth Ohio.

You have two main routes - the cardinal and the city of city of new orleans.

  7. I missed you guys in Baltimore this year, decided to stay home and save my gas money. I never fly any more unless I cannot help it. Trains and my gas guzzling truck are they only way to go. Besides - I just can’t wear a mask that long.

But, how much have you lost is real value by holding a dead asset?

It all depends on timing. When the music stops - would you rather own Russian paper, the rouble - or gold? It could happened to the dollar, although doubtful. If everything goes to pot - you can always use it as a projectile in your sling shot to get some dinner. But then again, you could burn your dollars to keep warm I guess.

It has not been forgotten. But we’ve had HUGE restructuring at the ANA due to COVID. Whomever’s pet project this was may not even still be there. The staff is a shadow of its former self.

    Why the restructuring? Budget?
the elections went pretty much as predicted.
